Another mother abducting her 4 children

There's another thread about the Australian woman abducting her children from Italy.

This one involves four children being abducted in similar circumstances but this time between Spain and Wales:

I saw that too... I do feel desperately sorry for these parents, it must be horrible to split up across countries.

Does the father have sole custody? This was unclear in the article.

by default I would side with the mother, unless i heard reason that the mother could not take care of her kids

Where does it say they don't want to return? I think you'll find it was a British judge who ordered them to be returned - not that our system is sexist

Which one, the BBC one? Sorry can't say I've seen any others. If the British judge thought it was a bad judgement he wouldn't have upheld it.

I suppose I just meant I find that an unbelievable thing to say. Is it because you think women are better parents? Or rather that its easier to empathise with another mother? (Assuming you are a mother of course!)

I don't read the Daily Mail or follow links to its website because a) I think it's a disgusting paper, and b) a huge amount of its stories are absolute crocks of shit.

But I'm saddened by your willingness to make your prejudices, both against the Spanish judiciary and men in general. You seem to be saying very clearly that you believe mothers are automatically better parents than fathers unless there is clear evidence to prove otherwise. What a depressing outlook on life that sounds.

Hmm, I agree she must have been desperate, but then i'd think that of anyone taking children that are their own. Suppose I don't assume that she would be primary carer as that isn't the case in my own life, and it isn't in many families.

Also I guess I'd assume that the judge would place the children with their primary carer - although I suppose this might not always be the case. But agreed it is a very sad case all round.

Is that to me? Erm i guess so, yes, as there hasn't been any reporting of some gross miscarriage of justice. Obviously I don't know all the ins and outs, but on what little I know, yes.

Yes I do think they should be returned to Spain because I'm guessing that the Spanish judge probably knows a bit more about the case than appears in the Daily Mail.

Plus the Hague Convention on child abduction is a very important piece of protection for all of us who have children; it would weaken it severely if judges in the country to where the children have been abducted could decide to ignore it on any but the most pressing of grounds.

What I find frankly astonishing is that this is a situation where one parent is granted custody of the children and the other parent then decides to move to a different country altogether. WTF?

I wondered this. And sadly, her actions yesterday and today make holidays for the children with her in Wales a lot less likely in the future. How is she going to see them now? It seems an inexplicable action-bound to fail, bound to cause havoc.

Allegations of mistreatment have been made, but the oldest of the children voluntarily returned home to her father in Spain.

These cases are just awful.

I think its unfair to judge either parent as we do not know the whole situation. However, it is wrong for any woman or man to snatch the children from their primary carer as if the children are in some way a possession of the abductor.

Ive heard too many stories recently of parents who kill their children in selfish sensless acts. The abductor here should see some prison time in my opinion (esp if this isnt the first time they have done this)

Part of me feels that a mother cannot "abduct" her own children.
Though I think she can take them away without permission of others and therefore act against the law, and more importantly against their well-being.

I do find myself empathising with the mother, but that's without knowing anything more about the situation and the lives of all involved.
