Perhaps the crowds cheered Gordon Brown because when he was Chancellor he actually did try to regulate the banks but the votes ended up going against his ideas.

Balderdash. He created the disaster. He replaced the oversight by the Bank of England with oversight by the Financial Services Authority, which had neither the technical knowhow nor the fiscal nous to regulate the banks. By packing the Monetary Policy Committee with his placemen he artificially lowered interest rates, forcing the bubble to grow.

Perhaps they cheered Gordon Brown because they thought how nice it was of him to travel all the way to London. After all, he's only made it to about 2% of Parliamentary debates so far.

Ghastly, vicious, evil man. I hope he's really unhappy.
