The nation boos at the Tory scum:

Didn't sound like he was booed on TV.

wannaBe · 04/09/2012 11:03

this was IMO not the time or the place.

I can absolutely see why Osborne was boohed by the crowd, however he shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Internal politics has no place in international sport, on an international platform where the majority of competitors are not part of, or have awareness of what it's about.

The irony of Osborne presenting medals or Atos being a sponsor is not lost. As it is Atos employees cover up their ID badges when going into the stadium in order to avoid confrontation by the public. The reaction to Osborne was clearly foreseeable and should have been avoided.

threesocksmorgan · 04/09/2012 11:12

of course it was the time and the place. there is no way he should have given medals.
he should have known better

seeker · 04/09/2012 11:15

It was fantastic. He appeared- we booed. The second another name was mentioned the booing stopped and we cheered. My dd described it as a "boo-beam"

scaevola · 04/09/2012 11:18

It's shit for the medallists, and a really unfair thing to do from their pov.

Meglet · 04/09/2012 11:18

threesocks Sadly I don't think George knows anything about anything, least of all about the ecomony.

seeker · 04/09/2012 11:21

Nope. I was concerned about the medalists too. But the boo was so focussed and short lived that it wouldn't have had an impact on them at all.

Telesales650 · 04/09/2012 11:57

Why dont you all grow up!

threesocksmorgan · 04/09/2012 11:58

??

breadandbutterfly · 04/09/2012 12:02

Ha ha. Very amusing.

Would like to think he'd learn from it but I doubt it.

MammaBrussels · 04/09/2012 12:03

It's not a nice thing to see/hear at a sporting event but if anyone deserves it it's George Osborne.

CatPower · 04/09/2012 12:10

Telesales650 are you darling Gideon's mummy?

Telesales650 · 04/09/2012 12:12

No! no connection with him other then being a conservative voter who feels they are doing the best they can.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 04/09/2012 12:26

What Blu said.

Disabled cuts after sports facilities cuts after disabled cuts, and you toddle along to the Paralympic Games expecting to be feted. Get real you little shit.

Vagaceratops · 04/09/2012 12:29

I felt a bit bad for him for a millisecond.

Then I remembered what a shit he is.

MoreBeta · 04/09/2012 12:29

I dont think Cameron or Osborne should have turned up to hand out medals.

Struck me as just bathing in reflected glory at a time when the Coalition are under pressure.

TwoIfBySea · 04/09/2012 12:35

Disgraceful - wasn't vociferous enough. Plus, all those javelins and discus lying around, opportunity missed.

mcmooncup · 04/09/2012 12:37

"No! no connection with him other then being a conservative voter who feels they are doing the best they can to fuck over the disabled--"

Is that what you meant Telesales?

voddiekeepsmesane · 04/09/2012 12:40

The Best that they can??!!! Really Tele? As a carer for my disabled partner, a mother of an 8 year old and a stepmother of a just out of college 18 year old they have done NOTHING but harm my family.

SilverSixpence · 04/09/2012 12:42

I was there and it was brilliant booing him, I don't think it detracted from the medal winners as it was clear it was HIM everyone was booing. As far as I'm concerned, it must have been embarrassing to be booed at a global event no matter how smug and self-important he is.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 04/09/2012 12:45

I've just watched it again, and made myself even more angry actually seeing the way he laughs at the boos at the beginning like he's at PM's Questions - it's not panto you numbskull, it's people's real, actual, inescapable lives.

I bloody hate our Parliament system, the way decisions that affect millions of people's lives can be 'justified' if they survive a bunch of hecklers, rather than actually being carefully considered. Bonkers way to run a country.

lovechoc · 04/09/2012 12:49

Not a huge surprise. He's a Tory.

brilliant post

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere · 04/09/2012 12:58

I was so heartened to see this happening.
There will be thousands of people at the Paralympics who will be directly affected by the cuts being made. There has been a relentless campaign by the government to demonise those with disabilities.

At last people are beginning to sit up and take notice and be heard

As for ruining it for the medalists - how many of them will be able to make it to another games once the cuts really begin to bite?

Do you think these disabled people are a breed apart from the ones you see writing on these boards terrified of what is happening?

That is what that prick wants you to think. That there are two types of disabled - the noble and brave athletes, fighting adversity (and preferably with an injury acquired in a glamorous way) and the snivelling, undeserving graspers who just keep holding their hands out for more.

wannaBe · 04/09/2012 12:58

my point wasn't that the crowd shouldn't have boohed him, but that he shouldn't have been there in the first place.

The crowd reaction is normal - that is not my criticism. My issue is that by putting him in that position in the first place has escalated our internal politics on to an international stage, and the olympics was not the time or place to do so.
