Fucking Fucking Tories want to make me homeless

Just watching some Tory cunt on Newsnight. I live in a London Borough (and have done all my life) which has a lot of ordinary people in social housing, but is very fashionable among the rich. Apparently the Housing Trust (which was set up to house local people like me in the 1960s) should stop "indulging" people like me and be forced sell off my home. Where the fuck are we supposed to go? They are born with silver spoons in their mouths and don't have the faintest fucking idea about ordinary people.

Do I detect an aroma of sour grapes around this thread?

SunWukong

Define shitty?

what does that word mean to you?, poor?, filled with scroungers and immigrants?, full of ethnic shops?.

You may consider them "shitty" but I consider them home, full of people from all walks of life (well almost frankly if you look down at us and say our area is shitty and needs renovating then you can fuck off).

You used the word 'shit hole' to describe where you lived.

they may not be full of shops but the majority that are there are independent Halal butchers, green grocers, ethnic hair dressers corner shops etc.

And I thought my town centre was ghastly.

Who are you to call an area full of affordable housing shitty?

You called it shitty. You used the word 'shit hole'. Did you mean to use those words, because you taking umbrage at me for describing an area in the same terms that you did seems a touch unfair.

who are you to say that a Victorian 3 story house that once was split into flats housing many should be bought up on the cheap by a rich person who will hog the whole house to themselves?.

Who are you to say that a house should be split in to flats?

I love the idea that turning a group of flats which was once a house back in to a house is 'hogging' it.

All this redevelopment means is throwing out the poor and all the character and culture along with em, filing an area with less people who take up more space and turning the high streets into carbon copies of each other Starbucks, Costa, Pret etc. Demonisation and destruction of communities leads to rage and an ever increasing divide that will overflow into violence. (as it does in France)

Of course the violence couldn't be the fault of unlimited immigration and the insane policy of multiculturalism, could it? No, it's the fault of evil rich people in nice houses.

What I man is shit hole housing, like council blocks (well mainly council blocks), no one likes living round them so they keep an area affordable, or just general housing that is in a poor state of repair (peeling paint old shitty windows etc).

goes without saying that any area where the poor live will have housing a poor state of repair eventually regardless of who owns it, the poor can't afford to keep the buildings looking perfect and if the council/landlords endeavoured to it would be added to the rent prices thus pushing the homes out of reach of many.

So you are blaming violence on immigrants? I don't see the streets of Southall being littered with the corpses of victims of gang violence, nor do I see groups of Polish people hanging around causing trouble etc. only trouble immigration has caused is more and more people chasing fewer and fewer jobs and pushing up the price of housing, but then it could also be argued that the price of housing would be higher without the legion of illegal and poorly paid migrant construction workers and that many other businesses would have moved there operations over seas without the option to hire immigrants.

no but alot of rioting was caused by certain sections of the population in Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Croydon etc.

there are too many people here needing affordable housing which does cause issues and resentment if you lived here all your life and been on the council housing list for donkeys years

frumpet · 28/08/2012 21:54

I think this is quite a sensible policy in some respects , as long as the council actually sell the properties for market value and buy other properties to house families . Not sure why but i have a suspicion that they will sell the properties for below market value and then rent from private landlords , but perhaps i am just a battle weary old cynic.
