My RT arrived in the post this morning and my DS 16 opened it with enthusiasm as it's the first of four Olympic editions. The look on his face got my attention then I saw the cover and my jaw dropped! Now I am not a woman of colour or religious but OMG it must have been a man who signed off on this... I shudder to think of this on London newstands when all our foreign Olympic athletes and visitors hit town. What do others think? Am I being prudish or unreasonable? (It is going in a cover btw)

I'm intrigued!

MamaMary · 17/07/2012 16:17

This thread is making me LOL. I think the OP is referring to the female athlete, and it's probably the breasts which are, to be fair, objectionable. But I don't get the whole ('i'm not a woman of colour or religion' thing) Confused

ThePigOnTheWall · 17/07/2012 16:25

I can't really make out the chest area on that picture. What's objectional about them. I assume they are her breasts in a Team GB vest

nymeria · 17/07/2012 16:31

I can't really make out much on the small picture either, maybe it's more obvious on the full-size cover Confused. This is a weird thread though.

MamaMary · 17/07/2012 16:32

ThePig, I can't see it too clearly either, but from what I can see, it would appear it's not a real athlete or person, but a computer-fabricated image that looks like Lara Croft. However, I'm sure someone who actually has a copy can confirm. OP, where are you?

MyNewCatIsFab · 17/07/2012 16:39

The tv advert for the Olympics on the BBC is an animation, maybe they have used the same "athletes".

nymeria · 17/07/2012 16:42

Oh I see, I thought they were photos of actual TeamGB athletes, have they given her big cartoon boobs then? I would be a bit Hmm in that case, but I still find the OP very odd...

TheEternalOptimist · 17/07/2012 16:43

Interested in the 'woman of colour' thing and what the OP finds objectionable. What if she never comes back to explain it?

AmandinePoulain · 17/07/2012 16:43

It does look computer generated, the athlete is quite blurry. I can't see anything remotely offensive or disgusting about it though Confused

TheEternalOptimist · 17/07/2012 16:47

Can someone post a photo of the cover? I tried to look at a larger version of the one linked to but it was blurry

catfart · 17/07/2012 16:54

I'm off to get a Brew I have no idea what the problem is!

PallySally · 17/07/2012 17:57

I've just had a look at the hurdler in Sainsbury's and can't see the problem. Looking at all four of them together, they make up the London skyline. I think they're pretty nice, tbh.

Nancy66 · 17/07/2012 17:59

How baffling....

TobyLerone · 17/07/2012 18:43

I've just bought it and I'm still none the wiser.

Memoo · 17/07/2012 19:01

Is it something to do with the date on it? I can quite see it properly on those pics but doesn't look right.

TheEternalOptimist · 17/07/2012 19:02

Doh. When you said, 'they make up the London skyline', I was looking at the athletes and wondering where you got that from.

Memoo · 17/07/2012 19:02

Oh no maybe not. Only just read the op properly.

gingerchick · 17/07/2012 19:19

I think it is hurdler crotch related but ridiculous none the less

sheeplikessleep · 17/07/2012 19:37

This is going to be one of those annoying threads that I keep coming back to, just to see what the hell the OP is on about Grin

Memoo · 17/07/2012 19:42

Or an op just deliberately trying to wind us up. Or she works for radio times and just wants us to look at the covers for some odd reason.

all4u · 18/07/2012 19:29

Sorry guys! Confused
Mine came in the post as I subscribe but I assumed it would be on the newstands by now! It is the first of four cartoon images from the TV ads we have been seeing - it is a female triple jumper (?) in an awkward final leaping position that presents her crotch to the viewer! Hence my DS staring at it! My first impression was just of an ugly ungainly image but then I thought of those two Saudi women who are coming having finally managed to be allowed to represent their country - then all the female Muslim athletes and what impression they would get seeing this on newstands on their arrival - then all the British citizens who would find it needlessly offensive!
Now perhaps they are mixing and matching the four images in different parts of the country but you will all see it sooner or later
Why use it when they could have used another frame?

all4u · 18/07/2012 19:30

And no Memoo I am a Welsh farmer's wife actually who lives too far from a town to buy it!

OP posts:
ThePigOnTheWall · 18/07/2012 19:31

Wtaf? You can't even see her crotch. Her leading leg is obscuring it.

You are being ridiculous

AmandinePoulain · 18/07/2012 19:38

Hmm Confused

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 18/07/2012 19:39

No I actually see what the OP is talking about - the female athlete's legs are splayed and there is a definite crotch-shot. That, combined with the megaboobs, makes it a bit Page 3 in my view. Why that particular angle on the female athlete? We don't get a nice gratuitous view of the male diver's or male gymnast's package!

Not actually sure that the Radio Times would be the first publication that visiting Muslim sportswomen would reach for though...!
