something really needs to be done about this - the government need to step in and sort out these supermarkets - not just for milk, but to ensure ALL producers get a fair price for the goods they produce!

The farmers on this thread all seem to be of the small organic herd type - which is perhaps not representative of modern farming.

Are any of you going to put your hand up to a count of several thousand raised in cramped barns (modern "super" farms).

Not a Zealot, but I am passionate about British People eating food produced in Britain where possible.

This could leave the UK more reliant on imports of milk produced abroad to poorer welfare standards, undermining the vital role of dairy farmers in managing Britain?s much loved pastoral landscapes."

This is taken from here www.wspa.org.uk/latestnews/2012/urgent_action_needed_unfair_milk_prices.aspx

so I am not just making it up.... and as for hygeine, the government are more lax with the milk they import than the standards we have to produce to. Not that I have anything against any European farmers Smile

The farm my husband works on has 220 high yielding Holsteins. Non organic, supplying an Arla Asda contract.
