What punishment do you think the British legal system would deem appropriate for someone who rapes a 5 year old?

I'm not going to link because I saw this in the Daily Mail. But, really, am truly horrified.

OP posts:

Oh, they'll remove the photos from ONE website, but they will be passed around god knows how many others.

CouthyMow · 04/07/2012 22:56

Much like the abused child, tbh.

CouthyMow · 04/07/2012 22:58

Fucking rehabilitiation?!

BOLLOCKS.

The bloke who raped me got 15 years, served 8, was back inside within a year for having raped ANOTHER 4yo. Another 10 years later he was released, within 6 MONTHS had raped YET ANOTHER 4YO.

You tell me how fucking 'rehabilitated' he was?!

CouthyMow · 04/07/2012 22:59

(Thank FUCK, he died last year, but those and my cases are just the ones he got CAUGHT for, fuck knows how many other children's lives he ruined?!)

GhouliaYelps · 04/07/2012 23:03

Sad I am so sorry couthy.

dottyspotty2 · 04/07/2012 23:04

Couthy I'm sorry I'm in my forties now and hopefully my abuser will get something and for the poster who said this 'boy' wasn't my so called brother I do know that I was pointing out that he was just 11/12 when he started abusing don't know if he stopped before he was arrested last year some 'boys' start abusing early on and carry on they don't all start as adults ok.

ThePan · 04/07/2012 23:06

I am really sorry to read that. Your pain and anger is writ large. And, for me, you are more than entitled to it. I am really sorry that was allowed to happen to you.

NaturalNature · 04/07/2012 23:07

Pan, as a victim, with first hand experience, I personally do believe sex abusers are evil.

Perpetrators should be sentenced and imprisoned.

They should have access to perpetrator programmes, they should be allowed to have rehabilitation.

Victims should also have access to support services for as long as they need. They should be given the right to not have the abuser living near them. The long term damage should be addressed.

ThePan · 04/07/2012 23:12

Natural - yes, the needs of victims are rarely in competition with the offender - we just like to separate them out, it seems. But of course, living near your abuser, or seeing them is a no-no for me. Exclusion zones and 'no contact' conditions have to be for longer and better enforced.

NaturalNature · 04/07/2012 23:17

Couthy, similar in my case, he was known to the courts, he was let off with a slapped wrist, over and over again and proceeded to rape more children.

He was a violent aggressive man who subjected me to a horrific violent rape.

The courts had ample oppourtunity to stop that but didn't.

CouthyMow · 04/07/2012 23:20

I am lucky to have my 4 dc, I was told at 14yo that I would never be able to carry a baby. I have been pregnant 14 times though. I had to have my WOMB stitched up because of the damage he did me.

CouthyMow · 04/07/2012 23:22

Why do the courts not take rape of children seriously?

CouthyMow · 04/07/2012 23:23

(and YES, I do mean my womb, have read my medical notes, I had to have stitches in my womb under general anasthetic, and my cervix had to be stitched up too.)

CouthyMow · 04/07/2012 23:24

He got 15 years, and only served 8.

Cheddars · 04/07/2012 23:24

Couthy Sad

I'm glad he's dead too. Angry

CouthyMow · 04/07/2012 23:28

How is that in ANY way comparable to the fact that as well as the mental scars, I have lost 9 of the 10 babies I have lost due to damage from what he did to me, that my womb tore when I was in labour with my DS1, where it had been stitched, that my DD was 5 weeks preemie, and will always have health issues that were caused by her prematurity, that was in part due to my womb damage. That I have such horiffically painful periods around the scar sites that I am immobile for 3 days a month. FOR EVER.

And you think he should be offered the opportunity to 'rehabilitate'?

dottyspotty2 · 04/07/2012 23:28

Couthy I was hospitised at 12 because of what he did to me but back then there was no child protection strong possibility that I miscarried had an erosion on cervix and underwent a d&c after haemorraging hate him when I said that for first time it was a relief.

CouthyMow · 04/07/2012 23:29

Argh - Dotty - I don't mean what you went through isn't comparable, I mean how is the 14yo being imprisoned for what he did to that child, or any other rapist being imprisoned for raping a child.

dottyspotty2 · 04/07/2012 23:31

Couthy I don't believe they can be rehabilitated I had a hysterectomy at 30 because I'd had enough of the pain every month nothing as bad as yours as he was 'nice' to me.

dottyspotty2 · 04/07/2012 23:32

He hasn't been imprisoned though.

GhouliaYelps · 04/07/2012 23:35
Sad
whiteandyelloworchid · 04/07/2012 23:39

this is disgusting

is there anything we can do about this.

like an appeal or a protest, or just do something

that poor girl and her faily.

that judge needs locking up aswell

ThePan · 04/07/2012 23:44

white - there is a link posted by SardineQueen somewhere above which is a link to the relevant office, to appeal against unduly lenient sentencing.

whiteandyelloworchid · 04/07/2012 23:52

thanks pan, i shall look inot that

NaturalNature · 04/07/2012 23:54

Couthy, I would prefer they stayed locked and spent time trying to understand what they have done than spend the time free or locked up playing playstations. I don't believe they can be rehabilitated but they shouldn't get an easy ride.

I think they should never be eligible for parole either.

The lasting physical damage to victims is horrendus enough without the added the mh problems.

If we as victims get life, so should the perpetrators.
