My mum had 5 babies. She had 3 in hosp and 2 in a local midwife's (don't think she was a fully trained midwife) house. The only pain relief she had when at the midwife's house was a bottle of brandy and she doesn't even like drink.

In hosp she had chloroform (sp?)right at the end. Do you think pain relief has progressed much?

Makes sense beatie. A sorry state of affairs for mums giving birth. £500 seems alot for the drug, doc & monitoring! wonder how they got to this figure.

i think the baby should pay for it - they get this money for even existing - they should hand over that money in lieu of pain caused

can i get compo for birth pain?

my youngest are 12 - have i left it too long? i'll sue my kids

I don't think women should pay either Jools. But I didn't do it without drugs for a medal either Grin

My cousin is a midwife and for years she was of the attitude that woman were making too much fuss and they do not need pain relief. Well when she had her DD she was literally screaming for pain relief (she was only 2cm) and eventually had to have a caesarean. Needless to say that her opinion on pain relief has totally changed!
