pardon?
was that to me sleepy jess? and if so, what do you mean by that??

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 21/01/2006 20:30

Here's the IUCN "Red List" information for that species of whale \link{http://www.redlist.org/search/details.php?species=10707} - so not on the 'endangered' list as such - but definitely 'vulnerable'

Miaou · 21/01/2006 20:31

Spidermama as often happens you have expressed my sentiments exactly (particularly your post at 7.43). And I loved your dd's and dh's poems (read them out to my dh too!)

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 21/01/2006 20:31

Groggymama · 21/01/2006 22:59

And not waving but drowning.

lucy5 · 21/01/2006 23:00

puddingandpie · 21/01/2006 23:29

spidermamma your d/d daughter's poem is fab.

poor whale .....so sad

ScummyMummy · 21/01/2006 23:33

Very sad about the whale and feel so lucky to have seen it yesterday.
dd's poem is great, spider.

Flossam · 21/01/2006 23:34

I am really sad to hear about it. I've been trying to find out about it today. But I am afraid, in the back of my mind I do find the cost of it all astronimical. Especially when you think of it in terms of people being denied life preserving treatments because of the cost. Having said that I couldn't have watched him not being rescued. He was a beautiful creature, very much deserving of a rescue attempt. (please don't all jump on me at once!)

SleepyJess · 22/01/2006 11:51

But people won't be denied life saving treatment because of the whale rescue operation though.. it's not money out of the same pot. People will be denied treatment because of further changes that still need making to the NHS.

Marina · 22/01/2006 19:44

Wise words and a wonderful poem from dd, spidermama.
I think the saddest thing about this incident for me too is that something instinctive (illness probably) was driving this lovely creature to beach itself repeatedly and all the kind people trying to "help" it could have been prolonging its agony. You said it much better than I could spidermama. We were all scared of seeing a dead whale on the banks of the Thames

MerlinsBeard · 22/01/2006 19:50

does anyone know how it cost 50k to rescue the whale? did it involve a new barge or something? that figure is ridiculous imo!

Flossam · 22/01/2006 22:27

Marina, I think you are right. I really feel for this poor creature and the innapropriateness of peoples behaviour towards him.

SJ, there are lots of things I could say but think it is best left.
