From the BBC, Dobson and Norris both found guilty of murder.

OP posts:
Trazzletoes · 03/01/2012 16:01

No, the point is that, as they were both under 18 when they murdered him, they will be sentenced as juveniles. They will serve any sentence in an adult prison but the starting point is only 12 years rather than life, sadly.

franke · 03/01/2012 16:04

Thanks limited - your summary makes it all sound a bit more convincing.

limitedperiodonly · 03/01/2012 16:05

Didn't realise that trazzletoes. But if they were juveniles, they were juveniles and that's how it has to be.

MollieO · 03/01/2012 16:07

Sounds as if not much as changed in the local area though. A radio reporter went into a local pub to get local people's views on the verdict and was told that it wouldn't be welcome in that pub.

thunderboltsandlightning · 03/01/2012 16:08

Gosh. Too long in coming.

TimothyClaypoleLover · 03/01/2012 16:10

That is sad they can only get a maximum of 12 years, if what Trazzletoes says is true. Hopefully they will serve the whole 12 years given their complete refusal to accept they have done anything wrong rather than being freed after 6 years.

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 03/01/2012 16:12

That's because of who the killers are MollieO rather than a reaction to the crime itself IYSWIM. The brothers who are still free are part of a crime dynasty and one of those convicted grew up behind mock tudor gates.

MollieO · 03/01/2012 16:14

Still shows the attitude of people in the area though, doesn't it? Surely better to say nothing than to actively say the verdict is a disappointment?

AmberLeaf · 03/01/2012 16:17

MollieO It really just shows what nasty, violent people the others ara and that people are scared of repercussions TBH.

Pinot · 03/01/2012 16:17

Justice for that poor boy and his proud family.

I hope those two fuckers now squeal on their equally guilty mates, like the cowardly scumbags they are.

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 03/01/2012 16:18

I think they would be worried about the consequences of saying anything 'on the record'. Within two days of the crime the police had been given the names of theose involved from over 20 different sources. People did come forward, just anonymously. I'd imagine saying the wrong thing publically even bow could result in violence and harassment.

TimothyClaypoleLover · 03/01/2012 16:19

Given who the others are I very much doubt they will squeal.

PastGrace · 03/01/2012 16:21

I think franke is a bit like me - I'm sure they did it, and I'm so relieved that the family have finally got (some) closure, but equally if I had been on the jury, based on the evidence reported in the media (and I am fully aware that the media reports will not have covered anything) I don't know if I would be sure enough to convict someone.

I would imagine there were other bits of evidence that weren't reported that together were enough to eradicate doubt. I fully support the conviction though, and I am pleased this was the result.

crazynanna · 03/01/2012 16:21

Agree with your comment proud family Pinot. They have presented themselves from the beginning with such dignity it brings tears to your eyes Sad

YuleingFanjo · 03/01/2012 16:22

wow, I actually thought they would find them not guilty!

maypole1 · 03/01/2012 16:30

I have to say I was hoping' I think their would of been more riots if not

Well done jury and shame on the mum for lying about their whereabouts

MyChildDoesntNeedSleepAtXmas · 03/01/2012 16:46

This link says that Dobson was jailed for five years in 2010 for drug trafficking. Was he put on trial while he was in prison?

Jux · 03/01/2012 16:50

Thank goodness for that.

CiderwithBuda · 03/01/2012 16:55

Thank God.

RIP Stephen.

happygilmore · 03/01/2012 16:57

mychild yes, that is what the Guardian said.

maresedotes · 03/01/2012 16:58

Did the reporter only go into one pub though? If so, this doesn't represent the views of all the local people. I went to school in Eltham, it is not a racist area and most people were horrified by the crime.

I'm glad they were found guilty. Dobson's mum should also be arrested for lying and saying he was in his bedroom all night - perjury?

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 03/01/2012 17:04

It sounds like a frightened area. The people who named them at the time made anonymous calls and left notes in phone boxes.

happygilmore · 03/01/2012 17:05

As Dobson was found guilty, it's hard to see how is Mother didn't commit perjury.

JuliaScurr · 03/01/2012 17:08

Your post made me cry

JuliaScurr · 03/01/2012 17:15

Seeing how worried the CPS was about the contamination of evidence, it's no comfort to know they've closed the forensic science service and now it's all fragmented Hmm
