oh thank you for letting me know about that, I can tell DH now and he can stop speculating about what will happen. :)

God, the thought of Trump as president is seriously disturbing....

MollyMurphy · 02/05/2011 05:02

Sorry - I don't mean to sound obtuse. I agree this is not the end of anything and I fear there will be retaliation too....I just had the urge to acknowledge that I have not once ounce of feelings of mercy for the guy and I'm not sorry that he's dust to the wind. Too bad there are so many to take his place. Your completely right of course - that does need to be discussed and give due attention.

"It is very likely that there will be another event similar to 9/11 on the cards."

I dont think Osama's death will make it more likely. Terrorism is about opportunity. When they get the opportunity, they'll do another biggie. If they could now do another 9/11, they'd have done it.

CheerfulYank · 02/05/2011 05:04

Thanks Annie ! Can we go to Tim Horton's? :)

Our airports are insane now...I'm not saying there won't be another 9/11, but it'll be a damn sight harder to do it.

When I flew to Washington D.C. in 2000 (school trip) I got on the plane with no identification whatsoever, save for a laminated card with my name and picture on it. That would never work today, nor should it.

Sweet! I've never been but I like the commercials. :)

argh - flying to the UK next Sunday - the airports are going to be vile again, aren't they?! :(
Still, I'd rather suffer with the vileness and know that there was less likelihood of plane hijack than the alternative. It's just painful at the time.

WillieWaggledagger · 02/05/2011 05:12

well this is news I never thought I'd hear

shamefully, one of my thoughts (among others obv) was 'this'll knock the royal wedding out of the news'

CheerfulYank · 02/05/2011 05:15

I was proud of Obama and his speech.

Voted for him, I did. :)

Willie I too thought poor Carole Middleton will be furious . Also, what about our hourly update on Pippa's arse?

Imagine, being your derriere upstaged by a "criminal terrorist mastermind"! HmmWink

ninedragons · 02/05/2011 05:24

I just told DH, who lost two close friends and thinks that when the live coverage was on, before the cameramen realised what they were broadcasting and panned back so individuals weren't identifiable, he saw them jump from the tower.

He said good. I hope it was terrifying and I hope it was painful.

Can't disagree with that, really.

MrsChemist · 02/05/2011 05:32

Rich Hall was quite astute when he said: He's the face the media have decided to put on terror, but it doesn't mean he's actually running the operation. It's kind of like Kentucky Fried Chicken. Just because the Colonel's picture's on the bucket, doesn't mean he's actually making the chicken.

Bin laden will now assume martyr status. Think I would have preferred him being tried for his crimes than being shot by US forces, given the choice.

ninedragons · 02/05/2011 05:42

Yeah, possibly.

But my viscereal reaction is that I'd like one family member of every victim to be allowed to take a shit in his coffin.

Where we live there are still a few different people trying to get signatures to get Obama out of office. They even have different reasons (apparently according to one of them, he is under the thumb of the British government).

Makes the farmer market run more interesting.

Bucharest · 02/05/2011 06:15

I don't know what I think really. At first I thought blimey, then I thought good (you reap what you sow) then I was cross with myself because I don't believe in an eye for an eye even when it's 5,000 eyes.
Now I just think blimey again. (But cautiously thinking it was the only thing to happen eventually)

Shock at people thinking Obama is under the thumb of the Hameron and Cleggy. That'd be like Superman being Wallace and Grommet's puppy surely?

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 02/05/2011 06:41

Under the thumb of the british!! If so tell Obama this Brit wants to be able to emigrate to USA! Tell him to relax the rules on Brits!

Very pleased Osama is dead - he deserves it and the Americans deserve congratulations for killing such a nasty figurehead.
