It's totally different. It's funny for all sorts of reasons. Her being a little, skinny person. Him being huge and muscly. Her being the editor of the Sun (currently campaigning against domestic violence), going for drinks with David Blunkett...oh so many reasons.

tiredemma · 04/11/2005 10:08

oh how i laughed this morning when i saw all the journo's and paparazi outside rebekah wade's house.

nothing like a taste of your own medicine.

foxinsocks · 04/11/2005 10:09

I agree Jools - problem is although she was arrested, she wasn't charged so officially, there's nothing to prove that she did actually assault him (as she'll never be charged with it).

I still think it's amazing that she's been allowed to continue with her job, especially as she's been championing an anti domestic abuse agenda. Just imagine if a male editor had done the same thing. He'd be out on his ear by now.

foxinsocks · 04/11/2005 10:11

it is funny because of the irony of it all really

Blunkett - has to have a paternity test after shagging his mistress, invests in a DNA-testing company that leads to his downfall, goes out drinking with the Sun's editor, who then goes and stabs her husband after a row.

You really couldn't make it up.

JoolsToo · 04/11/2005 10:14

well if you listen to all the guys ringing in saying how they were beaten by their partners - they're unable to fight back (because god forbid you should hit a woman - that's not funny at all is it?) Apparently 30 men a year die as a result of domestic violence.

There's a woman on now admitting she stabbed her partner - its the next step after a thump really.

JoolsToo · 04/11/2005 10:15

and I don't think its totally different at all. Abuse is abuse - violence is violence.

He's marked fgs!

This story is ironic - not funny.

foxinsocks · 04/11/2005 10:19

I find the Blunkett connection funny (that man seems to have an extraordinary social life).

I agree her hitting him is not funny at all. In fact, I am amazed that most coverage has treated it all as a 'big joke' because it isn't.

doormat · 04/11/2005 10:21

agree with posters her re dv
laws are made to protect people albeit whatever gender they are
pity they cant be reinforced

tiredemma · 04/11/2005 10:26

I agree also that its wrong that because he is supposed to be a big hard man, that its funny he gets a slap off his wife.

I agree with jools entirely that domestic abuse is wrong, regardless of whoever is dishing it out. I saw my dad put up with being attacked by my mom in one of her drunken rages, and he never hit her back because he believed that men should not hit women. How ironic now that the man she left my dad for is an absolute bastard who will think nothing of slapping her around.

agree though that david blunkett being involved somewhere is hilarious.

WigWamBam · 04/11/2005 10:50

Aloha, I don't see that her being a little, skinny person and him being huge and muscly makes a lot of difference myself. I'm large and my dh is smaller - if he hit me, would make a difference because I'm not small?

And what would the response have been if he had hit her back?

doubt it ks, doesn't look good for her though does it?

Satine · 04/11/2005 13:38

Am always delighted to see tabloid journos getting a taste of what it's like on the other side of the camera. Praps she'll print her own address so that the vigilante groups will know where to demonstrate against domestic violence. After all, it's in the public interest.

donnie · 04/11/2005 18:36

My DH has just come home from work (he is a journalist) and tells me that the word is that the Steve McFadden girlfriend story is fabricated to take the heat off Ross and Rebekah. The girlfriend has been signed up by the News of the World, the sister paper to the Sun. Max Clifford is PR to all of them. All of this is speculation and rumour, natch, but quite interesting anyway.

munz · 05/11/2005 09:29

meg/frau - so what actually happened then - any inside info? did she hit him/was there a thrid party? spill the goss girls!

HRHWickedwaterwitch · 05/11/2005 09:34

Oh this story is so hilarious, loved The Standard's mock up of how The Sun might have covered it, it was something like "Ginger Snaps and thumps 'im one"

bundle · 05/11/2005 10:39

not much to report, couple of snappers and a (poss Sky) film crew outside One Aldwych. Then I scampered off for tapas and crochet in dingy basement off tottenham court road...some v handsome brazilians turned up for a samba jam...sure we could work them into this story...

noddyholder · 05/11/2005 10:43

Not much in the papers today.Do you think they are waiting for a big story tomorrow?
