oh, meant to say also that lots of people don't like to think that someone can do something like that to the person they are supposed to love. I think that's why people were so aggressive about it.

I think everyone should bear in mind this is something being alleged as part of a plea-bargain - it doesn't actually guarantee that it's true, and it is obviously in the interests of the accused to stick with the allegation if they are due to get reduced sentences or better treatment as a result.

It may be true, it may not, but it certainly has not been proven yet.

Hang on, hang on... the bloke who has been arrested (taxi driver) has done some plea bargin thing. It's more likely he has made the whole thing up to get a lesser sentence.

The driver has been sentenced to 18 years in jail. He's alleging that Dewani paid him R15,000 for her to be killed.

This is just an allegation...

The authorities in SA will have very good reasons to make this look like anything other than a murder of tourists by local people.

Meanwhile the accused will be quite keen to say anything the authorities want him to say in order to reduce his sentence, SA prisons are awful places.

So yes it's possible that the husband is involved.

However it's also very possible that this is being made up to protect various interests.

Let's just see how it plays out...

Am not surprised, the whole story didn't make any sense to me at the time either.

For one, why would a taxi driver take tourists to a township at night - it's known to be a big no-no for safety reasons?

Also, the woman was taken and killed but not interfered with sexually which makes me wonder why was the husband not taken and killed as well then?

Probably my twisted mind Hmm but it just got me thinking that there might be something more to it.

Oh and to add another interested party into the mix the Townships themselves have a lot to gain from this not being a "simple" murder of wealthy tourists.

So you have the SA Authorities,the accused and the Townships all of whom will want the husband to be involved in this.

If you paid someone enough, which isn't very much to us, then they would do anything.

Plus there is an image that the Townships will protect tourists as they get income from them coming.

Mix the two together and it is plausible that this was just an innocent visit to see the "real" South Africa.

BadgersPaws - agree with you that if you pay someone enough they'll take you anywhere - that's just it though, why would a couple of people want to go to a township at night when tourists get warned of the dangers of going there at night - I don't think the taxi driver would have suggested it.

There are now plenty of tours of some townships and some of them also have tourists staying there overnight. The image being presented, as I've said above, is that this is quite secure as the residents protect the tourists knowing that if any harm came to them it would shatter their income.

And the husband says that the plan was just to drive through the township.

So it does sound reasonably plausible and I can see why it could have happened.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that he did, it was apparently the Wife's idea.

I'm not making any comment on who is guilty for all of this.

What I am saying that it's plausible that they did just decide to go and visit, that the taxi driver could lie to get a plea bargain and that there are a lot of people who want this to be seen as a "simple" murder of a wife by her husband.

its not the fact that they took a trip out to a township that made me think theree may be more to the story.

It is unclear who requested the trip into the township. I've read some reports that they both suggested it, to see the "real" south africa, and one report today said that the driver suggested it as they had gotten lost.

However, until the case is resolved (and possibly not even then), no one outside of Mr Dewani and the accused will know what actually happened, so it's very crass to speculate.
