I think they are bloody amazing - 17 days on 2 days ratons. Months in the dark etc.

But it keeps nagging at me - where have they been going to the loo?

They are well set up down there apparently with loos and a kitchenette - they are trapped in like a little office type place.

I think i might cry when they come out Blush

Isn't one of them coming out to discover his wife AND his mistress of ten years (that his wife didn't know about Until Now) waiting. Ouch. Think he's safer underground.....

I read an article recently about their daily routine underground. And apparantly lights come on and off to imitate daylight so they keep a proper sleep pattern.

And there is an area down the tunnel that they have access to, where they wash and toilet. Then bury waste.

It sounded amazingly organised, and they seem to be very strong, resilient people. I really hope they benefit from all the international interest in their story now.

They're going to bring them up one at a time.

The last one to come up - how do they decide that? And he will have to have nerves of steel. Well, they all have that but to be the last one down there.. .. ..

The medics will be the last out.

Sending down medics to ensure the most sick/ill are taken out first. Each run will take around 20 minutes.

They've been given asprin and travel sickness tablets to help combat the route the shaft will take.

Professional help is available for them all as it will be incredibly hard for them once out.

They are bringing them out at night so as not to hurt their eyes by going straight into sunlight.

Oh, I'm glad the medics will be the last ones out. Duh. Of course they'd do it that way.

It's an amazing story. Very very moving.

On the radio this a.m they were saying there is competition among the miners to be the Last Man Out as this is perceived to be the most triumphant/dramatic exit.

The medics are going to place the miners in order of evacuation.

I think they are incredibly brave.

The thought of spending 20 mins- 1 hour in a tube that is 22 inchs wide where you can't see anything would freak me out.

Having said that spending a few months trapped 2000 meters below ground freaks me out too! They all deserve a v large reward when they get out. :)

Why does 'everything' have to have such a cynical spin on it ? Competition to have the most 'dramatic' exit ? I'm more inclined to think that these are incredibly brave and resilient men, some of whom are prepared to wait for the weaker and more vulnerable ones to be atken out first. I know I will cry Blush

I know. I was a bit Hmm when I heard that. They were talking about it on 5live. Every miner is going to emerge a hero - first, tenth or last.

BTW I wasn't being cynical about them writing a book. I would buy every one of them. The best books are those about enduring absolutely distressful situations like this. My book shelf is stuffed full of true life stories about people who have survived against all odds. One of the reasons why I opened this message in the frist place because I've been following the story every day..

They just said they're 625 metres underground. Roughly how deep is that if you measure it in storeys?

Apparently they're starting at midnight our time, which is just as well as it won't do my nerves any good watching it on the news channel.
