Disability benefits should be cut

OK so if a family has a child with a disability which results in that family having extra costs then they should have disability benefit and use the money to cover those costs. I am sure that many families in this situation should receive more. However, can someone please explain to me why a family who have a child with a disability, adhd or autism for example , where extra costs do not result , where the earning potential of the family has not changed as a result or indeed where the family never worked anyway should receive extra funds courtesy of the tax payer. Also why should parents in this situation receive a carers allowance and then work less hours as a result of the allowance rather than as a result of the caring that needs to be done? Many families are well deserving I know and they should probably get more, but many are working the system and getting their kids over diagnosed.

I know there are ignorant fuckers out there, ( someone buys the DM) but to hear they're working as SENCOs is terrifying!

coolma · 06/10/2010 16:44

Sorry if I offended anyine - I didn;t even look at the form, i was just very unhelpfully told that as she has a hearing disablilty, I would 'probably get it' - no disrespect at all intended to anyone who gets it, I would never want to 'play the system' like this. I'm sorry Blush

madamimadam · 06/10/2010 16:44

Is it a full moon or something?

Will we have the eugenicists on here next? (I'm just waiting for the appearance of the Young Aryan Maidens thread...)

coolma · 06/10/2010 16:44

anyOne

notwavingjustironing · 06/10/2010 16:52

it's been a funny old week hasn't it?

Roundup should be easy.

"We had lots of trolls and a chat about tea and hens.

And a competition for crassest thread of the week." Confused

notwavingjustironing · 06/10/2010 16:53

title, that is, not the content therein....

SanctiMoanyArse · 06/10/2010 16:55

madam the eugenicists were here last night (OK one fo them)- will try and find post for you. Was most unpleasant.

Coolma she may have got a payment of DLA but I cant say as I dont know how it affects her life. It's not just for physical costs it is to ensure acces to as normal a childhood as possible- so if she coudln;t access any clubs becuase of her eharing say, tehn she might be able to buy in help.

But so very many people who should get it are turned down adn teh system seems to reject at random (ds3 was refused on first applciation then placed on HR for one year then MR until 16.... huh?)

ShadeofViolet · 06/10/2010 16:55

FWIW I would give my DLA back if I had a guarantee that my DS would get access to all the services he is entitled to instead of me having to stress about it all the time.

SanctiMoanyArse · 06/10/2010 16:58

Ah ghood madam I annot as MNHQ deleted it

Basically was saying that all people should be medically sterilised at birth and then face a panel of SWs etc to decide if they were likely to produce (I quote) 'defective children' and be allowed to reporoduce

In fairness, she was both shouted down and laughed at in tandem. then removed.

She posted on two threads and probably didnt bugger off but namechanged back to whoever she was before, you know how it is.

QueenGigantaurofMnet · 06/10/2010 16:59

Op - you have no idea what you are talking about so fuck off.

Angry

Shock

Glad I missed that Sancti.

SanctiMoanyArse · 06/10/2010 17:07

Ah Sov became quite funny- namechanging pisstaking and the like (as I intend to be a SW and have- ahem- defective kids, I was named defectivedetective; still rather like that one)

Always scary that these posters could be anyone we know though- next door neighbour, nurse, SENCO, MP

asdx2 · 06/10/2010 17:08

I too would gladly give back the DLA and the carers if somebody would provide the services my two need.
Can't imagine they'd get many people willing to provide night care for £53pw though on top of daycare and ds isn't "disabled enough" according to SS to qualify for services despite health confirming he needs lifelong care.

jellybeans · 06/10/2010 17:13

Not read whole thread but I would not judge anyone on disability benefit or with a child on it. I can imagine it must be very hard and have severe implications to the family/earnings with a child with a disability and it is easy to judge if you have never experienced it.

However, I know one family where neither parent works and alot of people slate them for being scroungers as they are very well off, holidays abroad, 2 big cars, seding kids on foreign trips that few can afford etc etc. the reason they are slagged off is that neither parent works and they had a disabled child 1st or 2nd and went on to have 6 more children. Apparantly now they have so many she cannot cope on her own with the children. Disabled child is at school 8-4.

ShadeofViolet · 06/10/2010 17:20

Jelly - your post contradicts itself.

jellybeans your point is?

cornsilk · 06/10/2010 17:32

jellybeans what exactly are you implying by 'they had a disabled child 1st or 2nd and went on to have 6 more children'

5inthebed · 06/10/2010 17:34

Ah school, the respite for us carers because without it we would get sod all break!

Jelly, did it ever occur to you or anyone else who is judging that family that the holidays they are receiving are from charities, or that the cars are being paid for by their DLA? How do you know that only one of their children is diasabled, or that they aren't disabed themselves. Not all disabilities are visable you know.

SauvignonBlanche · 06/10/2010 17:38

I heard some fucker on Jeremy Vine (disclaimer - Driving DH's car and couldn't fix radio, don't normally listen to such shite) today going on about how people shouldn't have kids if they can't afford them.
Maybe Bank managers could liase with the NHS and they'd know who to carry out enforced sterilisations on? Hmm

Sb that was the eugnics pland on teh toher thread LMAO.

I woudlnt worry about Jeremy Vine though; made a big deal of the new ADHD astuff the otehr day, on teh basis that is more ADHD kids ahev single mums then who could explain that? (in an eh? EH? It MUST be the parenting then fashion)

Er.... am ne genius but

SN kids IIRC make you 80% more liekly to divorce

ADHD if genetic (as the debate was about) would eman a aprent mighht have it and therefore struggle to maintain a relationship....

dunce-radio.

pagwatch · 06/10/2010 17:49

coolma

i hear you !!

I know you didn't mean anything - just repeating what a friend had said.

It is a popular misconception.

Jelly
I know a woman who has a very disabled 1st child andthen went on to have two more and lives the life of riley

That is because her DDs massive disabilities were the fault of a highly negligent hospital. She sued and got a substantial amount of money.
They are both at home all day as DD needs care all day
Which is no ones business.

Anymore than it is what I do all day when my DS is at school.

I is

pagwatch · 06/10/2010 17:51

I apparently was going to add some Ali G style insight and then changed my mind....

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 06/10/2010 17:58

sorr but would you like to know where my money goes, as I too had to give up a job to care for my two girls with ASD, I clearly dont deserve it.
Did you know a specialist ASD preschool costs £28 a session as apose to the state one which is free? Did you know special needs swim lessons cost twice as much as normal ones, what about the sensory issues with clothes, meaning searching out clothes without tags/seams/ect. Not forgetting the fact that is possible near on impossible to get a carer for children with extra needs. Special books, specialist private proffessionals as the NHS ones suck. Would you like me to continue.

How on earth would you know the extra costs of having a child with ASD? Have you ever had one for more than the 6 hours of school time??
Walk a mile and only then can you judge.

Oh and thank you for reminding me how small minded people are about disabilities and makinbg me feel crappier than I already do!!
