Man kills wife over roast beef dinner

OP posts:
ISNT · 07/08/2010 17:54

"y'know women joke about PMT..."oh it's great, I can kill my husband and nick stuff out of waitrose, lol" .....just blame it on the hormones "

???

I certainly have never heard anyone saying "haha I could kill my husband and go on a crime spree". And where is the evidence that women are let off scott free after doing these things and blaming their hormones?

You must know some very odd women DP. Mind you, people who join the BNP are pretty much odd (as a generous description) by definition.

daftpunk · 07/08/2010 18:04

Pretty sure women have got off crimes because of PMT.

I wouldn't use it personally...if I wanted to kill my dh I'd do it when there was a new moon......ha ha

ISNT · 07/08/2010 18:09

it is really inappropriate to be making light of all this. A woman is dead, killed by her husband, the judge describes it as a "tiff" and says what a great bloke he is.

You come on here giggling about PMT like a 12yo and claiming that women are forever laughing about killing men and then being let off because they are "hormonal", and that this is something that happens in the courts.

It's just a load of old bollocks DP.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 07/08/2010 18:11

And friends wonder why I'm still single, doh!

quaere · 07/08/2010 18:12

I don't understand why people think it's necessary to be a feminist to get worked up about this. I would be just as cross if it was a man who was murdered. However, I just get the feeling that the sentence would have been longer if the victim had been a man.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 07/08/2010 18:14

How many men are murdered because they burn the roast beef?

Janos · 07/08/2010 18:16

ISNT - your post at 16:59 - completely agree.

I find a lot of these threads very hard work and admire people like yourself who have the energy to keep up the debate when presented with such horrible attitudes.

daftpunk · 07/08/2010 18:17

If you're a feminist you'd know that PMT/PMS/PND/whatever..has been used as a defence for years.

It's not bollocks.

ISNT · 07/08/2010 18:26

"If you're a feminist you'd know that PMT/PMS/PND/whatever..has been used as a defence for years."

And how does that translate to

"y'know women joke about PMT..."oh it's great, I can kill my husband and nick stuff out of waitrose, lol" .....just blame it on the hormones "

?

quaere · 07/08/2010 18:28

It's not exactly clear that he murdered her just because of the beef. In fact it's unlikely, it just makes a good headline. But that's not the point, because there isn't ever a good reason for murdering someone

ISNT · 07/08/2010 18:41

Janos Smile thanks

Quare no, you also don't have to be a feminist to get upset about it, but some of the people who do get upset and come on the threads are feminists, and others unwittingly make feminist sounding comments, and thus the people who dislike "man hating loons" have to come on as well and start shouting at everyone "for balance"...

You have fallen into this trap yourself by saying "I just get the feeling that the sentence would have been longer if the victim had been a man" - this sounds like the sort of thing a feminist migth say, and is something that is likely to inspire the wrath and outrage of the anti-feminist brigade, so be prepared for an 18mile long post with 40 links to cases where men got killed and people went to prison etc etc...

daftpunk · 07/08/2010 18:45

ISNT;

I haven't got the time to google all the women who have got off crimes (or certainly received reduced sentences) where PMS was used as a defence. I'm pretty sure it was feminists who campaigned for the hormonal imbalances in women to be used in this way.

you really need to brush up on your feminist knowledge...

ISNT · 07/08/2010 18:48

Yes yes of course. If any woman murders someone, all she has to say is that she has PMT and she will immediately be released.

This is why all women laugh and joke about killing their husbands and going on crime sprees and getting away with it. Because obviously the idea of killing your husband is really funny, and obviously women can very easily get away with it.

You talk shite DP.

ISNT · 07/08/2010 18:50

You are now going to find a case where a woman successfully argued this and the court accepted that she comitted a crime while temporarily insane.

Well done!

Now explain to me how that translates to the idea that women go around laughing and joking about killing their husbands and getting away with it.

Janos · 07/08/2010 18:51

You're welcome ISNT :)

I found that thread about the 12 year old really quite horrible. Debating with some posters is the talkboard equivalent of banging your head off a brick wall.

I think when you say I'm a feminist or sound like you might be one some people just switch to attack mode.

ISNT · 07/08/2010 18:52

I think you're right Janos.

I'm going to Biscuit this in a minute as there's really no point engaging with DP.

Where did I say all women?

You said it was bollocks that PMS was used as a defence. I told you that it wasn't (and could provide you with tons of evidence if I could be bothered) and that it was feminists who started the whole PMS as a defence in court.(something you would know if you were a feminist of any description)

You are the one talking shite, and you clearly haven't got a clue.

ISNT · 07/08/2010 19:09

No, you said:

"y'know women joke about PMT..."oh it's great, I can kill my husband and nick stuff out of waitrose, lol" .....just blame it on the hormones "

And I said that that was bollocks. Bollocks that women regularly go around laughing about murder and theft, and bollocks that they can commit murder and theft and say "ooh I'm hormonal" and get let off. Slightly different.

quaere · 07/08/2010 19:11

Yeah I am a feminist (count myself as one anyway) but this case is repellant enough even without the man/woman aspect

ISNT · 07/08/2010 19:15
Grin

Have you seen that there is a MN feminist section?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/08/2010 22:43

For anyone still puzzled, there's a good article entitled: What's wrong with saying things happen to men, too?

HerBeatitude · 07/08/2010 22:43

"It's impossible to have a grown-up conversation with dittany around."

God what a whiney post that is. It's basically saying "It's impossible to assert ridiculous sexist bollocks without Dittany coming on the thread and calling me on it".

Well done Dittany, it's good that someone has the energy to bother.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/08/2010 22:46

Or "it's impossible to deride the idea that sexism exists, with dittany around to provide several evidence that I am talking through my hat"
