May's Fledgling Flyers: shed that clout May Flyers are out

elliepac · 28/04/2010 21:23

Welcome to the May edition of the fledgling flyers where we are going to merrily fly around the maypole, dusting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from May 1st.

Woke up in a very bad temper with poor dh, stomped off to catechism with the dts, slightly improved temper after going to local market and buying some food (going to a market always makes me feel on holiday - unlike the supermaket)
Continued to tackle drawers and hotspots, found all the lost table napkins (all ironed several pencil sharpeners, and managed to fill another few bags of rubbish, and put all CDs back in their boxes.
Paperwork rounded up and all in one place for once.
Kitchen KEPT tidy even though dh serpent like was trying to persuade me to read a book

Persuadedissued dire warnings to kids to hoover playroom
Dh was so bored that he actually did some more gardening, dd was so bored she helped him. Ds2 listened to Calamity Jane soundtrack all afternoon - the things one discovers tidying up CDS
Ds1 is busy posting entries to competitions.

Vampire Diaries sounds great Chairman have a lovely breakfast tomorrow - and the baby will probably enjoy it too

Evening Ladies,

Posting a bit earlier tonight as have got to and pick up DS from Beavers orienteering exercise at 9. Not done much today to be honest but seeing as I am going right back to babysteps all I had to do was shine my sink which I have done. Result .

sr sounds like you've had a busy day, market sounds lovely. I love to go to mine when I am on holiday from school, just don't have time when working .

om glad to hear DD is feeling a bit better. GOOD LUCK TO DS FOR RUGBY (see, I am cheering for DS at the very top of my voice, which is rather loud anyway, tool of the trade )

sc what a lovely May Day tradition.Am 100% with you on babysteps and routines, that is exactly my aim for the month. Enjoy riding!

mm glad you got the tiles sorted and well done on the decluttering, always feels good!

lpp welcome back. . No need to 'keep up' at all, just pop in when you want and post, that's what the round-ups are for .

chairmum your day tomorrow sounds divine. How long have you got to go now?

biddy i like to take things easy.... The wand helps, just wish it would work on my housework

dwm I hope you had a lovely family day

linzer am very of just popping to Bratislava.

pa hope the taxi-ing wasn't too hectic!

Big waves to Iloveasylumseekers, frubear, neenook, purplewednesday. I hope you have all had a good day .

First day over, sinks shining, what next I wonder.......

nettie how arethe bookcases? Sounds like you will have a very shiny sink by now!

elliepac · 01/05/2010 20:32

Hello all,

As you look into your sparkling sink, you may wonder where we go from here. The answer is lace-up shoes.

This second babystep is all about having the correct mindset when you get out of bed, being ready to face the day and start your routines. Please be aware it is NOT mandatory to have lace-up shoes, but shoes of any form will do .

In addition, you need to keep that sink shiny. And that is it. Truly. Have a good day!

Evening all,

As we've been out most of the day, I haven't managed to get much in the way of flying done so I'm glad I kept my list short.

Quick update:
Persuade DH that we need to go and check out the new M&S in Bratislava done
Shine sink done
Tidy up downstairs done
Tackle ridiculous amount of Playmobil that the DH DC have

Aargh, have just noticed my typo - I don't actually have several husbands who all have far too much Playmobil. At any rate, I still haven't got round to dealing with it. swan - You mentioning hoovering the playroom has put an idea into my head; I think that should get rid of all but the biggest pieces.

SC Glad it's not just me missing out on the long weekend - but I don't feel I can complain too much as we get a few bank holidays on a Thursday over the next couple of months, which makes for a four day weekend.

ellie Thanks for the round up and links. Despite what I said earlier about the babysteps, I think I may have to ignore tomorrow's (unless slippers count). It's virtually unheard of to wear shoes indoors here in fact; you're also expected to take your shoes off at other people's houses.
Bratislava is only about an hour away btw so not too much of a trek - and it was definitely worth it as they've just opened a big new M&S there with a food department! And a cafe! And children's clothes too! (I wasn't all that excited, honestly. )

My sink is shiny and I have managed to part with about 10 books...time for bed x

PositiveAttitude · 02/05/2010 06:46

Good morning ladies,

Yep, up way too early again. My body clock is out of synch and I am always ready for bed by 10.30pm. Just wish I could move it all along by 1 hour!

Worst babystep of the bunch today. Lace up shoes - yuck! yuck! yuck! No way! No way! No way!. Yesterday I bought my summer "house" flip flops for wearing around the house. (Winter warm cosy slippers, summer flip flops) They are as close to lace-ups I am going to get to wear in the house - EVER!!!

Not only a shiny sink yesterday, we had a new kitchen tap fitted. That is all sparkley and shiny too. Goodbye to the dripping tap that has been driving me mad for months!

Linzer - I was a bit about a DH with playmobil. I had hoped it was a mistake. When is your trip to M&S then? And well done on getting the FC dress. (That was you, wasn't it???)

Ellie - Hope DS enjoyed his orienteering.

Chairmum - Have a wonderfully relaxing day today. Cant be much longer now from what I remember.

SR - Must be something in the air causing all these bad moods with DHs. Thats 3 of us over the past 3 days!!

OM - Sooooo glad DD is feeling better. Fingers crossed for the rugby today.

DWM - So sorry you have been feeling down.

elliepac · 02/05/2010 07:23

Morning all.

I thought I was up early on a Sunday morning pa, my body clock is in synch, unfortunately it is on synch for the working week, not the weekend!

DS absolutely loved orienteering, when I went to fetch him, he was sat round a campfire toasting marshmallows and drinking chocolate although absolutely shattered.

Am planning on quite a lot today as didn't do much today. Not list posting though as it is Sunday after all and plans might change, will just see how I go.

OP posts:
Littlepurpleprincess · 02/05/2010 08:27

Good morning. Todays list:

Take DS swimming

BIG tidy in DS room. He kept us awake all night because he is now suddenly terrified of the dark and shadows. I'm thinking all the junk is not helping - there might be few less creepy shadows if there were a few less things to make them.

A bit of gardening (in the rain of course!)

Write a letter for local SureStart so they sound great on their OFSTED inspection.

LinzerTorte · 02/05/2010 08:28

Good morning,

I actually like getting up early at the weekend, as I enjoy the peace and quiet and can actually get a few things done before the household descends into noisy chaos. I was aiming to get some work done early this morning, but the DDs - despite being impossible to wake at 6.45 during the week - were up bright eyed and bushy tailed by 7, so that put paid to my plans. However, DH is now taking DS out and the DDs are occupied with Playmobil (so it does have its uses; maybe I won't be getting the hoover out just yet) so I'm hoping to catch up on some work now.

PA We went to M&S yesterday - DH didn't need much persuading! Did lots of stocking up on food and had to stop myself buying too many clothes for the DC, lovely as they were. Yes, it was me with the FC dress; it's a lovely dress and really suits DD1 but I'm still getting over the price!
Hope your DH's cycle race goes well today; I didn't realise you were on an island - sounds lovely! (I do miss the sea...)

ellie Toasted marshmallows and drinking chocolate - yum! Saw some marshmallows in M&S yesterday and was quite tempted (especially by the ones that came with their own tub of chocolate for dipping) but managed to resist them.

Must get on - DH has just put his head round the door and said he's taking DS out so I can work, not spend time on MN...

Nettiespagetti · 02/05/2010 08:51

Good morning everyone

lol at pa son like it!!

even getting dressed to any kinda shoes is impossible as have to wait for Dh to get up look after Dc before can go for shower!

PositiveAttitude · 02/05/2010 14:44

Afternoon update:

Had contact from DH on his bike race - he has come off!! Not sure if he is more damaged, or the bike! He is able to carry on, so cant be too bad!

Other than that, I have a sorethroat and feel rubbish. Washing pile is gradually diminishing, sorting and ironing pile is increasing! GGgrrr!!

elliepac · 02/05/2010 15:27

AFternoon all,

Good job I didn't list post today because it's all gone pear shaped. Spent the morning exchanging unpleasantries with DH and then have just returned from an impromptu visit to the cinema with DS to see the new Nanny Mcphee film. Have returned with DN as well.

Oh well, there's always tomorrow. However, my sink is shiny and seeing as I ignore babystep no.2 I have kept up my resolve to follow babysteps .

Evening all...

DS1s TEAM WON THE NATIONAL U17s PLATE 38 - 10!!!! DS WAS CAPTAIN AND HE ALSO SCORED A (dubious admittedly) TRY EVEN THOUGH HE IS A FORWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had a great couple of hours at the ground but an absolutely awful journey with untold rows in the car!!!

No flying done at all obviously but I just wanted to do a quick post...

See you all tomorrow!

droitwichmummy · 02/05/2010 20:23

Well done to DS1 OM!

Had lovely family day today. Not been to PILs for a change so we all went swimming this morning then pub for late(ish) lunch followed by drive round the Blossom Trail.

Going to shine my sink then do the ironing and that's it for today.

Decided to do babysteps only this month - anything else will be a bonus

Thank you for the kind words - still feeling positive; this time last week we would/could not have contemplated lunch out but we did today without having to feel guilty. We even decided we could go again for Father's Day and agreed to go out for our anniversary next month Was brave enough to ring bank yesterday and talk to them so doing really well.

biddyofsuburbia · 02/05/2010 20:50

Brilliant OM really well done to your DS1!! He must be chuffed, scoring a try and captaining a winning team and you are quite justified in shouting! Is he lying around the house totally exhausted now?

No flying here, rather late night as went out to dinner and then couldn't unwind so talked to DH and then read a book

DWM really glad you have had a lovely family day
Ellie sorry your day went pear shaped, but cinema sounds fun! looking forward to flying tomorrow!

Waves to everyone else - see you in the morning!

MiniMarmite · 02/05/2010 20:50

Hmmm, had a relatively productive day but just remembered that DH and I forgot to have dinner (too busy sorting things out for our forthcoming holiday). Thankfully we managed to remember to feed DS before he went to bed...we normally eat together but I cooked such a big lunch we were still full .

Well done to DS1 OM

biddyofsuburbia · 02/05/2010 20:52

MM you should have come round here I just cooked far too much food (and ate it) am now sooo stuffed. Awful.

missbennett · 02/05/2010 20:53

Hello, everyone!
The dog has eaten my laptop cable still my excuse though DH has now ordered me a new one and once that comes I will be able to spend as much time as DD2letsme! as I want on there

Have had a really fraught week at work and still recovering. Hence not much flying. But am determined to get it back under some control this month. I did a bit of cobweb removal earlier. However, the washing is mounting up and we need a home blessing like you wouldn't believe!!! So it's a good job tomorrow is a bank holiday and I can take the day slowly and try and spruce things up a bit.......and then back to baby steps and decluttering

Have really missed regular fixes on here so looking forward to new cable so I can keep in touch properly.

Hope everyone is OK - I do try and keep up but is harder to do in chunks. Thank you minim for all your words of encouragement last month, and thank you too, ellie for taking over this month.

See you all again soom.

elliepac · 02/05/2010 21:00

Evening all

WELL DONE OM'S DS - an uber proud mummy moment if there ever was one!

dwm glad you have had a lovely day, sounds like you have deserved it. Glad the positivity is still there. FInances have the power to cause so much misery. DH is a self-employed sub-contracting joiner in the construction industry, so to say he has had a bad few years (and consequently 'we' have) is an understatement, been out of work more than in so I do appreciate the stress it can bring. Keep it up . I think there are a few of us just on babysteps this month so we can keep each other company!

pahope DH and his bike (adjust the order of importance as you see fit) are ok and that you're throat has calmed down a bit. Here is the point where I could give some earth-mother typehome made remedy to soothe but I blatantly am as far from an earth mother as you can get so all i can say is strepsils work for me .

nettie cobweb gigantoria sounds very exciting. Hope you conquered it

linzer hope you managed to stay away from mn and get your work done

Everybody else very quiet today so I assume you have been enjoying some lovely family time. I've just been to drop DN home and ended leaving DS there to sleep over so peace and quiet reigns here and am about to settle down to watch 24 with a glass of wine (I love Bank Holidays). Back in a mo to post tomorrow's words of wisdom!

OP posts:
elliepac · 02/05/2010 21:04

Sorry lpp I missed your huge tidy up of DS's room. Very brave IMHO. I very rarely venture into my DS's room mainly because I can't get through the door .

x-posted with missb - glad to hear the laptop situation is nearly resolved. Take it easy tomorrow. I know how exhausting it is when you've had a tough week at work and feel the pressure to do everything at the weekend. .

OP posts:
elliepac · 02/05/2010 21:08

also x-posted with mm and biddy, we must have all posted at once!

mmhope you find something tasty to eat

biddy nothing beats the feeling of having eaten a huge sunday lunch/tea, pure contentment .

Right, I hope no more of you little monkeys have x-posted . Am definitely going to post links now....

OP posts:
elliepac · 02/05/2010 21:14

Today's babystep is genius and very easy to achieve we can all do this, promise. All you haveto do is shine your sink and dress to lace-up shoes (if you so desire I hasten to add to those of you who do not find lace-up shoes the most attractive option )

This week for our missions and decluttering we will be in the Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room. Links will come tomorrow morning because I need mm's wisdom to tell me how to post the night before as they are not showing on the fly website......

MM Help please. I need your wisdom.

OP posts:
MrsDinky · 02/05/2010 22:10

Evening all,

Sorry I have been AWOL for a few days, have been trying to spend less time on the computer, and haven't felt I actually had anything interesting to say!

Ellie - I think the mission link is the same every day, I tried clicking on MM's links at night once or twice in the evenings and they were still on that day, but by the next morning had updated automatically.

DWM - well done for biting the bullet and tackling the finances, sounds like you have done exactly the right thing. Blossom trail sounds nice.

PA - hope DH survived bike ride, not a nice day weather wise here either, blustery and wet, hope your throat feels better soon.

OM - Woohoo! Well done DS!

MissB - hello, good to see you

Biddy I have eaten far too much tonight too, pasta bake followed by fruit crumble.

Nettie - pity about the weather, we wanted to do bluebells too, maybe tomorrow

Linzer - v.envious of Bratislava, I went to M&S in Basingstoke today, hardly the same!

PMPY, PurpleWeds, Neenook, Frubear, SC anyone else I have missed - hello, good to see you again too.

Well, done not a lot this weekend. Yesterday took DCs swimming, then out to a couple of garden centres. Today - lazy morning then the horrors of Basingstoke on a wet Sunday afternoon along with it seemed the whole of the population of Hampshire. Tomorrow, not sure yet. DCs are inclined to stay at home and just play all day at the moment, I'm quite inclined to do that too, but if the weather is nice maybe bluebell hunting.

Flying wise, have sat back a bit after Thursday's mammoth effort. Have sorted out lots of clothes for charity shop / NCT sale today, need to go and tackle the ironing mountain in a minute.

See you tomorrow.

missbennett · 02/05/2010 22:35

Back again! I've made a start!

-changed sheets on our bed
-hung damp washing on airer
-put another load into the machine
-cleaned sink
-washing up

Didn't take long but I feel so much better for doing something

ellie, I too think if you post the link by the nexst day it has appeared by fairy magic

Now I'm off to enjoy the blissful pleasure of clean sheets AND a new book. Once I've decided what to start that is - have a whole pile waiting but also treated myself to book 2 of the Millenium trilogy and am itching to start that....... Have realised that when I am stressed I have to overindulge in something and books have become a substitute food

Goes off to bed to enjoy guilty pleasures of clean sheets, tea and book. Middle aged? Me? Of course not. Just appreciating the finer things in life......Redbush tea anyone?
