May's Fledgling Flyers: shed that clout May Flyers are out

Welcome to the May edition of the fledgling flyers where we are going to merrily fly around the maypole, dusting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from May 1st.

Hello again everyone. So now we can shine our sinks, lace-up our sexy lace-up shoes and repeat, what are we going to add today?

Today's babystep is writing down our routine. This is a step that some people do, some people don't. Some of us (I can't remember who, sorry) have whiteboards to write these things down. It is the beginning of your control journal which will tell us what we need to do!

Here is the mission for today Mission

Have a good, productive day everyone!

On the contrary linzer (and I know a lot of people say this) I have an incredibly stubborn and clever 2 year old who is already starting to use the potty as leverage. She was put on the step this afternoon for hitting her brother (again) and whilst there said she needed the potty, clearly aware that mummy was very keen for her to use her potty and would thereforelet her off said step to use potty. She then refused to go back on step and every time she did, shouted potty! I've been had, by a 2 year old . I can tame teenagers but clearly not my own child!

If it's any consolation ellie, DD2 is actually the really stubborn and clever-for-her-age one - and she was the one who was the quickest and easiest to potty train. DD1, on the other hand, was only stubborn in her absolute refusal to use the potty. I think she must have been traumatised by a potty in a previous life, as she's quite easy going otherwise.

feetheart · 03/05/2010 21:55

biddy - wardrobe clear out is very satisfying isn't it? Did it about 2 months ago and still enjoy opening it and being able to find things in it. Might need to do same with summer clothes before putting them in.
at idea of bras scattered around the world

ChairmumMiaow - well done on lying down with DS, get into a routine with it if poss. I spent end of 2nd pg with DD and I collapsed on the sofa every afternoon (she had long since given up napping) - her watching 'Finding Nemo' at one end, me sleeping at the other. Continued when Ds was born except it was DS and I sleeping at one end whilst DD continued to watch Nemo

Didn't do too badly today:

  • Morning routine - done by about 7.30pm
  • bath and hair wash for DC - done
  • finish making rhubarb and ginger jam - done
  • meet DH and friends for pub lunch - done and stayed there till 4pm
  • Declutter tiny hallway - no
  • Shiny sink - done
  • Ironing to keep myself awake whilst DH watches snooker! - done enough, bit more tomorrow and it should be all done - managed to keep up with the 1-load-of-washing-a-day routine whilst ill but ended up with a HUGE pile of ironing
  • Bed by 10.30pm - going in a minute
feetheart · 03/05/2010 22:05

X-posted with lots of people, shouldn't take so long!

Off to bed now, night all.

swanriver · 03/05/2010 22:54

Have done LOTS..OF...TIDYING.
essentially rather a dull bank holiday, and dh said I was being very dull too, but feel better because I think next week I won't have to do anything except paperwork

Threw more stuff from wardrobe, and then it was so cold I am now wearing a cardy that was on its way to the clothes bank . O so I did need it after all..
Only one of my bras has lasted 14 years (the red one bought for Italian New Year in 1996 was it? - where you have to wear red underwear - no really - everyone does). One way to avoid the grey bra syndrome

swanriver · 03/05/2010 22:57

Feetheart my gastronomical German/Italian SIL in Berlin was cooking an exquisite feast for my MIL, and served (after many erudite delicacies)rhubarb crumble, and told my MIL it was a special English dish I had taught her I don't know whether it was a compliment or not. We used to have loads of Rhubarb and ginger jam as children too!

DidEinsteinsMum · 04/05/2010 00:34

quick post because i am still up and should be in bed but to mark the fact that, for now, my internet connection is fixed.

PositiveAttitude · 04/05/2010 07:05

Good morning all.

A bit of a wipe out bank holiday yesterday as I was feeling very unwell, but after a very restful day and a good night I am hoping to be able to cope with a full work day today.

Just taken me ages to scroll through all the activity yesterday.Everyone seems to have done loads!!

OM - Belated congrats to DS!

Linzer - Dont worry, every child does something like this. It sounds as if you are being very sensible and I am sure it will soon just be a memory!

Biddy - What a lovely plan to restock your wardrobe! - enjoy!

Feetheart - So glad you are getting back to normal.I ma sure the house (and DH) will follow along soon.

Ellie - It is so much easier to control other people's DCs than your own. You have one smart DD!!!!

Swan - Well doen on your tidying bonanza.

to MrsD MissB DWM mm chairmum and everyone else...

So, what on earth is a Wagamamma?

No typed list for today as I ma just going to see how I feel. DD has already said she will cook tea tonight if I feel unwell, . Should be a long day ar work. - one job this morning, then another this afternoon, but we will see. If I flag terribly by lunchtime I will have to do second job on Thursday, which I like to keep as my day off.

Oh yes, DH survived the bike ride. He was more scratched then the bike, following his fall, so he was happy. Not a personal best time, but the weather was so awful that was not surprising. He has now persuaded DD to get a new bike and join him on his training rides and they are planning on doing a mainland race together in the summer. I will soon end up with more bikes IN the house. (DH refuses to keep his bikes out in the shed as they cost so much) I watched him clean his road bike in preparation for Sunday and he was doing it so lovingly!! Oh how can I compete with something that has two wheels and is made of alluminium!!

Right, off to do the sandwiches and dishwasher and washing machine and .......

See you all later.

PositiveAttitude · 04/05/2010 07:39

Just noiced it is just May 4th and we are already onto 5 pages!!!!

LinzerTorte · 04/05/2010 07:40

Morning all,

Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well yesterday PA; hope you're feeling better today after a good night's sleep.

I am in serious danger of getting sidetracked so need a list:

Morning routine
Cook dinner (note to self: do not burn)
Proofread and send translation
15 mins decluttering in hall
Mission

Back later!

missbennett · 04/05/2010 08:09

Morning!
PA hope you're feeling better and DEM that you have enjoyed a bit of a lie in at least. Apricots in fairy cakes sound lovely - never tried that?
My list for today:
-morning routine - done more or less
-mission - done - more or less yesterday! So I must try and do a bit of sorting. Someone commented yesterday that they have been trying to do too much cleaning round the clutter. Think I'm guilty of that too. Although sometimes I don't even do the cleaning bit
-ensure DDs get dressed and go to school
-survive day at work
-swimming tonight

swan I was really cold last night too and had to revert to socks in bed. And a cardi. Help, I am turning into my mother

swanriver · 04/05/2010 09:06

best-laid plans and all that

ds1 went to school in odd socks despite me waving two pairs of matching socks at him and following him around house dementedly
dd said she was freezing and wanted her gloves (they are now in the loft with the winter stuff)and complained all the way to school
ds2 woke up at 6.30 to tell us that he needed to do his homework - having sworn blind yesterday that he had finished it
Done in spite of chaos
three lots of music practice
I batch of homework
one load of laundry
turned our bed back
dressed and ready to go to work NOW
dishes in dw

PA sorry you are feeling ill, kind daughter and admiration for bike riders
MissB have a good day at work, and enjoy swim - I always dread swimming and then feel wonderful afterwards

MrsDinky · 04/05/2010 09:21

Morning,

MissB Frost here last night, we had the woodburner going all evening and I still took an hour to warm up enough to get to sleep once I wnet to bed.

SR - my DCs also decided they wanted their gloves halfway to school. So did I!

PA - glad you are feeling better and that DH survived in one piece. Wagamama is a chain of rather yummy noodle bars. You need to get to the mainland and try one!

DEM - wow you have been busy.

Today -

Morning routine done
Hoover whole house
Ironing mountain
Get more stuff sorted for the NCT sale
Missions
etc etc

swanriver · 04/05/2010 12:31

Back from work - trying to unravel the borrowing patterns of four year olds (and hide all the Disney books)

ooh a woodburner - worth having a frost for MrsD think we are not allowed woodsmoke here in London

long list of panic inducing trivia ahead, but am going to do piano practice then come back and think again

LinzerTorte · 04/05/2010 12:55

I'm having a post-lunch slump so need to update and repost my list to stop myself falling into a stupor.

MissB I need socks and a hot water bottle in bed unless it's the height of summer. I also listen to Radio 4 to send myself to sleep - I have already turned into my mother.

swan Piano playing is v. therapeutic, isn't it? Which reminds me that DD1 still hasn't done her practice - although will probably have to leave it until her friend has gone home. DD2 is at a friend's before ballet today, so once again it's going to be a last-minute bedtime-delaying practice.

Updated list:
Morning routine done
Cook dinner done but chickened out and defrosted some bolognese sauce for DD1 and friend - DD1 can reject have the lentil curry tomorrow)
Proofread and send translation
15 mins decluttering in hall done
Mission done
Afternoon routine
Find something Mother's Day-related to do in English lesson tomorrow (it's Mothering Sunday here this weekend)

swanriver · 04/05/2010 13:26

I miss nap-time

anyway now back to list
piano done
hang new lampshades - later
go to dump with garden refuse and recycling
unpack veg box
ring dentist for dd and me - done
book flight from Newcastle to London for Sat (plans constantly changing) Perth booked done
hang out wet washing - v windy here
plant summer bedding in pots - with kids
cook supper - no idea
kids haircut?
make beds - no

something else - can't remember.. feels ominous

feetheart · 04/05/2010 13:55

Lots of busy people on here.
Not a bad start today though I am flagging too and would much rather be collapsed on the sofa with DS watching The Incredibles.

PA - think house will get into some sort of order in time, am less certain about DH

swanriver - we had much complaining about the cold on way to school too. DS and DD trying to outdo each other as to who was coldest!

Already have done:

  • stuff to Hospice Shop
  • Most of Morning Routine (need to do cat litter but seem to be putting it off!)
  • Some work
  • Feed DS and I

Still need to:

  • Hoover at least one bedroom
  • Declutter tiny hallway
  • Make dinner - probably Macaroni Cheese and bacon
  • Afternoon/Evening routines
  • Finish ironing
  • Collapse into bed before 10.30pm
intravenouscoffee · 04/05/2010 14:03

Hello all, can I join in? Was a Flyer a couple of years ago but fell off the wagon when I was pregnant with DS. Now that he's 2 months I'm hoping to get back in the swing of it and regain a bit of control!

For the record I'm a SAHM with a DD (2.9) and DS. And if a Fairy Godmother arrived and promised me I'd never have to clean my house again I'd be over the moon. However, in the absence of a FG I'll have to start shining the sink myself.

MrsDinky · 04/05/2010 14:05

MrsD staggers in under the weight of stuff she has dug out of the loft for the NCT sale / charity shop. Usual problem, where to put it for sorting, labelling etc, esp. toys as it needs to be somewhere the DCs won't find them, oh for a spare bedroom or garage. How on earth am i going to get this lot sorted by Saturday?

MrsDinky · 04/05/2010 14:06

x-posted with IntravenousCoffee - hello, come on in, I love your name, could do with a cup myself right now, welcome on board.

swanriver · 04/05/2010 15:06

Intravenous were you in Spain? hello
MrsDinky waiting for my brother/cousin to have a baby so I can give it to them to sort out
Feetheart I think my supper will be cheesy potatoes and veg

Update
Tip done several bags of rubbish and old chair hooray - very very quiet there, very pleased with myself for NOT going yest
lampshades two hung
washing hung out done

and back with 10 mins to spare

gormers · 04/05/2010 17:15

Ooh, hello everyone! Can I join as a latecomer to the thread please? Found the flylady yesterday by accident and now chanced upon this thread - think it's a message for me to def follow!

Did the whole shiny sink thing yesterday - will find it difficult to keep it looking that good!

Starting this at an odd time, as we're moving in a month, but i'm sure it will be a good habit to get into before getting to the new place!

PositiveAttitude · 04/05/2010 17:32

Welcome INtravenous and Gormers - definitely not too late to join in, just hop in and start today.

Managed a whole day at work, but feel absolutely rubbish now, so quick pasta tea on (DD not well enough to cook after all, so she says she will try tomorrow) then my brain can go to sleep for the rest of the evening.

Back tomorrow hopefully fighting fit and ready to tackle the world, well, babysteps at least!!

PositiveAttitude · 04/05/2010 17:38

Just meant to add - MissB - read the second of the millenium triology. It is brill - even better then the first, which I totally raved about!!
DH is reading the third at the moment and I am getting VERY impatient!!
