May's Fledgling Flyers: shed that clout May Flyers are out

elliepac · 28/04/2010 21:23

Welcome to the May edition of the fledgling flyers where we are going to merrily fly around the maypole, dusting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from May 1st.

Morning all - after my post about bedtime I went to bed at 10 to read and fell asleep straight away! Maybe there is a hypnotic message on the flylady pages or something! Will be back after school run to post list! Have a good day everyone!

missbennett · 18/05/2010 08:02

Morning!
feetheart - laughed at your DS and his snake tattoo - they have such mad fab ideas
biddy glad you got a good night's sleep and nettie that you found the dogs!
I am on my way to work. Had a bit of a shock when I got up this morning - almost didn't recognise myself
Routines done and children shoutedat reminded that they need to get up

See you later - have good days all

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 18/05/2010 09:42

feetheart / linzer : I'm dreading the tattoo phase - I hate them but I know I will let them have them because there's no good reason not to!

missb - sounding very organised today!

I managed to sleep much better last night and didn't finally wake up until 8.20! But I've just about finished my morning routine (just got to finish the bathroom) and then:

  • another wash load on
  • friends round to play / for lunch
  • DS to nursery
  • 15 mins in bedroom sorting out all the stuff that H moved around for me
  • bit of paperwork / emails
  • clean out fridge (really needs doing, but its just going to get harder to bend down, so its now or never!)
  • mop kitchen floor
  • DS from nursery
  • afternoon routine
  • evening routine.

I think I manage to make myself sound busier than I really am. There will be plenty of sitting around gossiping and probably an hour of TV in there too!

pushmepullyou · 18/05/2010 09:43

Morning all! I seem to be Tuesday only flyer at the moment . RL very very hectic and intruding on both my flying and mning time!

Paid work * 3 critical things m(rest to be ignored for now
Unstack dishwasher
restack dishwasher
do washing * about 5 (sicky toddler )
hang out washing * 5
put away washing * 5
Clutter clear in living room

pushmepullyou · 18/05/2010 09:44

Pressed post too soon!

Hello to everyone have a lovely Tuesday!

MrsDinky · 18/05/2010 12:33

Morning, oops, afternoon. Well, masses to do before getting DD beack from pre-school (have just dropped her off), so better dash.

DEM - oh dear, hope things improve soon.

Re tattoos, no offence meant to anyone who has one!

Hair is still straight and sleek, have investigated GHD website....

Chairmum my fridge is pretty dire too.

Right, where to start?

Washing - on line
DW - needs emptying and reloading
27 fling boogie in each of DCs rooms with a view to hoovering
Make some phone calls
Gardening jobs

Better go!

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 18/05/2010 15:23

Well I have done nothing other than see my friend. We dropped DS off at nursery and she took me to a local craft centre for some cake and shopping and had a lovely time. No point getting into anything now cos I'm off to get DS in 20 mins. Never mind :D

PositiveAttitude · 18/05/2010 17:32

WHOAAAaaaa!!! New laptop!! Just flying past to try it out! Will come back and post later ..... on my new laptop!! Ooooooohhhh. go me!

droitwichmummy · 18/05/2010 19:08

Hello everyone.

Quick posting of list for this evening:
ironing - not much, 10 mins max
put washing away - I am determined to keep on top of this
sort out my bags. I use various different (large) bags for work depending on what I am doing with the result that they are all full of rubbish! I think there are 4 of them. I did one at work today so 3 to go
DS to bed on time
sort out stuff for work tomorrow including lunch
try to find Daisy - she has so far evaded meds today so MUST get them down her
DW
WM
Bed

That should do - back later

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 18/05/2010 19:36

Just a quick one and then I'm off to relax in bed for a bit.

I managed to do everything except mop the kitchen floor. The fridge really needed doing it though so I did it once DS went off for his early bed.

Had a lovely time at the craft centre with my friend, and bought DS a grufallo bag and apron, which he absolutely adores We had to read the gruffalo and the gruffalo's child after tea As well as some lovely silver jewellery for me!

Night all!

elliepac · 18/05/2010 20:49

Evening all,

Another relatively slack day here. Not much achieved really but am not going to beat myself up too much as I always knew this month was going to be tought because of work commitments. Have managed to get round to getting DS some new swimshorts to stop him having a builder's bum and some new school shirts to stop him looking all grey and scruffy (i can never get my whites white ). Topic of the day would appear to be tattoos, DS loves those stupid transfer things not that I would ever let him get a real one . (not that he'll listen to me when he is a big strapping lad!)

dem take some time and get yourself well, everything else can wait and I mean everything.

dwm glad Daisy is doing ok. I have one bag that fits all however it currently contains a vast amount of useless stuff which might come in handy one day .

pa a shiny new laptop, how exciting . I think you should stroke it in the same loving manner your DH strokes his bikes, that'll teach him .

mrsd straighteners are wonderful things (to ghd or not to ghd that is the question ), I would possibly be far more upset if mine broke than if my washing machine broke and definitely more upset than if my iron broke . Busy day today. Well Done!

chairmum sounds like a lovely afternoon, arts and crafts sound wonderful, I often feel my DC's miss out because I do not have an artistic bone in my body although I do have a primary school teacher sis so she does stuff like that with them.

pmpy Tuesday is better than no day. Pesky RL, it has a habit of getting in the way . Keep it up as best you can, I know my RL is making flying almost impossible but keep popping in .

missb I think you should do a twirl with your fabulous new haircut, are you still in the process of admiring yourself in the mirror, i love doing that when i've got a new haircut (only happens once a year mind )

biddy hope you have had a lovely day

mm welcome back, how was the holiday?

linzer am with you on decluttering, I have a relatively small house, lack of storage, a hoarder of a husband and spoilt DC's so that makes for a vastly overcluttered house and messy into the bargain .

Big waves to everyone else sc nettie om feetheart sr and everyone else I have missed.

elliepac · 18/05/2010 20:58

Bonjourn mes amis (change is as good as a rest, got bored of saying hello everyone ).

La babystep pour aujourd'hui, c'est inspirational reading. The fat fairy is asking us to read about how flying can make a difference. Take a look at your own houses, even after a bad/day week, I bet we can all see a difference, now that's inspirational. That all of us, from different walks of life, different countries, can come together to support and cajole each other and can make a difference in our lives, that's inspirational!

The mission today is here.

Happy inspirational flying everyone!

Evening everyone and bonsoir ellie or fisken mar! (sp)

I'm in bed have dw'd and cleaned sink that's it! Had good day but melt down at 8.40 when got home from gym and DH asleep in sofa and dinner stuff all over dining table, floor and dishes everywhere!
so I've stopped whinging to myself and stoppedcrying and left him asleep on couch and come to bed! (I'll stop whinging to you now too!)

I hope you all have lovely nights sleep and a good Wednesday x

PositiveAttitude · 18/05/2010 21:50

Evening everyone. Back to play on my shiney new laptop.

Ellie - I am certainly stroking her and DH seems totally unamused! Is french housework easier to keep on top of than english housework? If so my very ancient school girl french could be dusted off. Either that or I could say a "Dubray Ootra" to you all. -now thats got you thinking, hasnt it. Glass of wine to anyone who can translate it!!
My DCs shirts never stay white, either

MrsD - Go for hairstraighteners! They are amazing on a bad hair day - although nearly every day here is a birds nest day bad hair day.

MissB - Glad your hair feels lovely.

Big waves to everyone else, sorry a bit low on the personal messages tonight, nearly falling asleep.

Had a disasterous trip to the supermarket this evening. Just needed to run in for a few things, DCs in tow. Picked up a box of 18 eggs and headed for the self service till for quickness. Note to self for future reference. When scanning a box of 18 eggs hold the box securely in both hands! Why is the barcode on the top, so you have to hold it upside down to scan it. I cant be the only moron person to end up with scrambled egg on the scanner and an empty box! . True to form my DCs scattered around the shop as quick as lightening and pretended they did not know the woman who had gone as red as a tomato at the cashdesk.

No housework done today, too busy on new laptop, but also at work all day.

Should get a bit more done tomorrow. (Always tomorrow

swanriver · 18/05/2010 22:32

Ellie LOL the primary school sis Are secondary teachers all intellectuel?

Chairman cheered up by thought of silver jewellery
PA at least it wasn't in your hallway (althugh I suppose you wouldn't have needed to see the barcode there unless you are very organised and scanning groceries in and out of your fridge (actually that wouldbe a good idea wouldn't - at a glance one could see what had been there too long)

Anyway, I am digressing,
done
swimmming with kids
theatre workshop at school
hosp with ds1
music practice x 4
a bit of work
dieting continues justabout

Discovered that the elegant new indoor gingham jacket I had been wearing for last few days is in a fact an anorak by any other name. Dh pointed this out to me, and showed me that it was called a parka on the M & S website . I feel I just don't understand these modern fashions It had a bow and zips

MrsD go for school-work, it is a great way to escape virtuously, and v. interesting too.
Nettie I need a real boat too, as we live near a lake in summer. Sorry about plates, I survive by paying dh back with my own clutter.

MiniMarmite · 18/05/2010 22:33

Bonsoir!

Holiday was fab thanks Ellie but quite active so I now need another one on a beach in the maldives sans enfant (except I would miss him terribly and insist on returning home immediately)!

OK, so building chaos ensues here but I have:

  • been to work
  • done some washing (DH hanging out as I type)
  • DH cooked dinner and tidied kitchen
  • made a half hearted attempt to tidy our bedroom and DS room.
vacuumed downstairs
  • washed floor downstairs.
  • packed bag to go to Mum and Dad's tomorrow to escape chaos.

Does that sound ok? How much should one do when everything is covered in a thick layer of dust and there is all the holiday washing to do?

The builders are fab though - they even vacuumed when we came home from holiday and I am now the proud owner of a window in the bathroom...why did I not think of this six years ago?????

MrsDinky · 18/05/2010 22:47

Evening all, or Bonsoir,

Aujourd'hui j'ai fait le "15 minute room rescue" x 3
Fait le vacuum-cleaning sur le premier etage
Planted les onions sur le jardin
Lounged in a chair watching Cbeebies with DD for an hour
Helped DS with maths homework
Cooked chicken wings in the slowcooker, ummm, cooked with salt and rosemary for 6 hours, then half an hour in the oven to crisp up, crusty bread, job done.
Cleaned the bathroom floor avec le cloth de microfibre.
Watched 3 episodes of Coronation Street on Sky+
Fait le washing machine et dishwasher

PA - oh dear. Didn't you have some sort of egg incident a couple of months ago? I seem to remember the puns cracking me up...
I cannot use those self service tills to save my life, avoid, avoid.

MM - have you left your control journal where the builders can see it? They might shine your sink if you're lucky!

Ellie - your description of your house, storage, DH and DCs sounds exactly like mine.

Tired, can hardly think straight, so will wave goodnight to everybody else, see you tomorrow.

LinzerTorte · 19/05/2010 07:22

Good morning - or should I say bonjour, guten Morgen and bore da The thread has gone all multilingual on me since I last posted! PA Is it an Eastern European language? I know something like dobre/dobro means good in Slovakian. Am stumped by fisken mar though, Nettie! ellie The hoarding DH and spoilt DCs do sound very familiar - and no matter what the size of our house (and ours isn't huge, though it does have a cellar for DH to hoard yet more stuff), it would never be big enough for all our clutter. I sometimes despair - well, quite a lot of the time actually.

I must admit that flying has taken a back seat recently, as I've been quite worried about a friend going through a tough time at the moment. She's asked me if I can go with her to the police station this afternoon when she makes her statement as they have told her she can take a "person of trust" along (which I'm assuming just means for moral support). So today is going to be even busier than usual. I need to do:

Morning routine
Work
English lesson
Lunch for me and DD1
Collect DD2 from Kindergarten
DDs to piano lesson
Police station
Collect DS from Kindergarten
Pick up two of DC's friends to come and play

all by 3 pm. And am feeling exhausted just thinking about it... had better get on anyway!

PositiveAttitude · 19/05/2010 08:31

Good morning ladies!

Linzer very good, yes it is Russian. Hope today goes well. Sounds a bit serious and scary to me. I am glad I am not the only one where flying has taken a back seat, although mine seems to have moved from the back seat to the trunk and sailing off into the sunset!

MrsD -Oh dear, I am found out! Yes I am a bit useless.I think a couple of months ago I dropped an egg on my phone while cooking or something. I am just really clumsy I think. Good to know that my DCs love me though. I have been singing under my breath "Stand by your mum!" ever since.

MM Your builders sound lovely. Glad youi had a good time away. I'll take your place in the Maldives, just so that you can stay and look after DS. I ma sure my DCs will love to be free of the most embarrassing mum EVER for a while.

SR I would not like a scanner on the fridge, Big brother is watching you! Bow and Zips on an anorak? Go girl, new trendy anorak I'd say!

Nettie - Hope you have woken up this morning to a tidy house. Did DH realise that you were upset? Or did he snore through your rant "conversation"?

Too much time here spent on new laptop. Discovered a new game that I could seriously become addicted to last evening.
So far today:

Dishwasher emptied
Washing machine loaded
Sandwich marathon completed
Kitchen tops cleaned
DD4s cookery stuff for school all sorted

To do today:
Breakfast for me
Put bolognese in slow cooker for spaghetti tonight
Work - Heavy day closing all end of year bits today
Meet lovely friend for a coffee, to keep me sane
Hoovering
Sweep front lounge floor
play game on laptop

Waves to everyone else on here.

Have a good day.

Nettiespagetti · 19/05/2010 11:59

Morning everyone at work so will sneak on cant be long.
Fisken Mar is Gaelic about the only bit i know apart from "Donne Murdo" which means DangerMouse!! Gaelic Cartoons when i was little.

Apologies from my wee tirade yesterday. I dont believe that DH knows any different. But i had a good night sleep which i needed.

PA new laptop sounds divine. Is it pink? I picture you with a pink one
linzer hope things go ok with your friend this afternoon
mrsd you had me worried I was really finding it quite hard to sort out the adjourned from the faits?
MM glad you had lovely holiday. Builders that hoover wow!!
swan i love anoraks. DH had one and his friend hass two. Ill transport one over lol. hopefully it will be nice but im not much of a seafarer and thats what we got round here.
wave to everyone else. sorry boss back mil from cash carry

MrsDinky · 19/05/2010 13:14

Back to English today, my French is far too rusty.

I was going to say Kurdish to PA and Finnish to Linzer, so wrong on both counts!

Have just completed 1/2 hour DH rescue on the kitchen, his turn to wash up last night, cconsequently when I lifted the glass cover on the hob it was splattered with grease, the slow cooker pot was still on the side soaking, the floor had not been swept and there was a pile of crumbs behind the recipe propped agains the back of the counter. Oh well, he tries!

Offloaded 3 bin liners of old clothes to charity collection this morning, plus a carrier bag full to a friend, so feeling virtuous. Also feeling like doing a bit of clothes shopping to refill my wardrobe, oh dear.

Need to go and put on 3rd lot of washing, one of the DCs wet the bed last night, see you later.

Linzer - hope police visit goes OK, your friend is lucky to have you. I would guess it is pretty scary for her.

droitwichmummy · 19/05/2010 18:27

Evening!

Pasta is cooking, garlic bread in oven, help yourselves

Not sure if I will get much done tonight - been training (delivering) all day and my back hurts. Also done something to my knee so will have a rest I think.
Need to find Daisy - she was sick yesterday after her meds and DH tells me she was again today. Think it is the painkiller rather than the antibiotics so hopefully ok - to vet tomorrow morning anyway for check-up. She escaped last night (for about 2 minutes!) and rolled on the drive so I have no idea what vet will make of the state of her tomorrow

DW on done
load WM
empty bag from today (didn't do the others yesterday)
Daisy meds
DS to bed on time
2 min kitchen whizz
bed on time

LinzerTorte · 19/05/2010 19:04

So was I near enough with Eastern European to get the glass of wine, PA? I could certainly do with one - it's been an exhausting day, rushing round and managing to be late for almost everything. The visit to the police station went as well as could be expected - v. harrowing to listen to what my friend had to say, although I knew most of it already, and I didn't feel like I was much use but I think she was glad just to have someone else there with her.

PA What's the game you've discovered? I've heard that Bejeweled Blitz is v. addictive, but I'm steering well clear of any more games after wasting far too many hours on Farmville.

Nettie I would never have guessed Gaelic; I thought it sounded quite Scandinavian. Probably because it reminded me of one of my favourite Norwegian phrases, frisk som en fisk (fresh as a fish, i.e. fit as a fiddle).
No need to apologise for your tirade yesterday - I often feel the same. To be fair, DH is quite good at tidying up but just doesn't see that we, or rather the DC, have TOO MUCH STUFF (apologies for shouting, but I don't feel like I'll ever get through to him) and that life would be so much easier if we could get rid of about 3/4 of it.

MrsD I really have to force myself not to criticise DH's way of doing things, especially when it's only because he does things differently to how I would. Can empathise re the washing - I really didn't have time to do any today, but ended up doing two loads as DS tends to have almost as many night time accidents as he does dry nights at the moment.

DWM Would love some garlic bread, thanks; I haven't had any for ages! Hope Daisy gets better soon.

The bomber has made it over to Austria again (6 children here this afternoon, so it was inevitable really) so must go and sort out the mess now - have been hiding upstairs since putting the DC to bed in the hope that DH would at least make a start on it...

elliepac · 19/05/2010 20:10

Evening all, no brain power left for strange languages today .

Absolutely zilch flying done here today.Come down with a stinking cold. NOthing bad enough to stop me going to work etc. but enough to make me feel grotty and in need of my bed.

linzer so we have a much travelled mess bomber, curiouser and curiouser. I hope your friend is as ok as she can be and i admire you for being such a supportive friend. Take it easy, you've had a tough day.

dwm pasta and garlic bread sounds lovely, I haven't eaten yet. I hope you find Daisy ok. Another one who needs to put her feet up.

mrsd my DH is trying, very trying . Well done on the clearout, a fantastic excuse for shopping although no excuse is ever needed for that particular pastime chez elliepac

nettie what are we if not a place where we can have a little rant in private (well, quite public really but you know what i mean )

pa busy day today by the sounds of it. Keep stroking that laptop .

mm glad you had a good holiday. Am seriously impressed by your builders, it's normally horror stories that you hear.

Big waves to everyone else, that's it for tonight for me. Am going to take drink some Lemsip and snuggle down.

Today's babystep is Laundry - aaaaaaaah. This is my bete noir, my enfant terrible, my achilles heel. One load a day included in either morning or evening routine will soon begin to make a difference (my problem is putting the blardy stuff away!)

The mission today is here.
