May's Fledgling Flyers: shed that clout May Flyers are out

elliepac · 28/04/2010 21:23

Welcome to the May edition of the fledgling flyers where we are going to merrily fly around the maypole, dusting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from May 1st.

Right, have 20mins before heading off to dentist so time to get list up and something achieved:

  • condolences email to friend - done
  • Morning routine - need to finish
  • buy planter and card for said friend
  • dentist - 20 miles away but he is GOOD so I am not changing
  • Sainsburys shop on way home
  • afternoon/evening routines
  • DS to swimming lesson
  • Bed by 10.30pm - getting better and shouldn't have bread in oven tonight. Was very delicious though

Lots more to do this week before holiday on Saturday but if I write it all down it will panic me

Have good days everyone and Chairmum - slow down woman, you are wearing me out

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 17/05/2010 10:58

feetheart - I can't help it! I was up at 10pm seeing what I could declutter because I just couldn't sleep. I think its crazy nesting!

Done:
morning routine
ds to nursery
charity shop run
stuff from Argos
food shop

Still to do:
ds from nursery.
Pub lunch with SIL
afternoon routine
dinner for H who is coming round to do lots of heavy lifting for me
evening routine
try to sleep!

SIL drove me to town to do my stuff so now I've got an hour to sit down before I have to pick DS up. Bliss

LinzerTorte · 17/05/2010 11:24

Have just finished work for the day and now have 10 mins before I need to pick up DD1, so it's not looking good for the morning routine. So far, I have only:

emptied DW
made beds

so some catching up to be done. I was going to ignore the missions and decluttering this week as I've got so much work on, but I've decided that if I can ignore the computer in the evening and get the DC to bed at a decent hour, I might actually manage to get some flying done then...

Still to do:

hang up washing
finish unpacking
make shopping list
food shop
locate address book, and if successful:
send e-mail to friend who moved back to Australia (ideally before she moves back here again)
get DDs to write 2nd round of cards for postcard exchange

Stillcounting · 17/05/2010 12:11

Hi all - thanks so much everyone for all your kind words [sniff][sniff][blows nose loudly in to spotted handkerchief]

I'm feeling much better today thanks which is fortunate because it's straight back to "business as usual" with dh travelling in Canada and US and dd up all last night with a bad stomach (sigh) and a headache. So she is off school today and I don't think I will be getting much done. I'm still feeling de-mob happy though!!!

Having said that:

HAVE DONE (none of it too bad in first place tbh though)
Morning routine including dw & wm on, s& s and master-swipe.
Cleaned kitchen
Cleaned out gps
Tidied and cleaned sitting room and hall and play-room
Window cleaner has cleaned volcanic ash off windows

So not too bad really

TO DO
Tidy my tight drawer (only did this a month or so and it's already in a pickle)
Ditto bra and pant drawer
Sort shoes
Two on-line orders

Yes Ellie it shows that our respective dhs CAN do it when they set their minds to it [grrrrr]

Chairmum you are DEFINITELY nesting - how exciting!!!!

Good luck at the dentist Feetheart

Waves discreetly to DEM pretending she is not really there

Sorry to hear you are a sufferer too Linzertorte -

Waves to everyone else - your lists are really impressive - and thanks again for warm welcome back!!

PositiveAttitude · 17/05/2010 12:15

Guten morgen!!

I am at work, so cant be a long post.

Feetheart Thank you for the recipe AGAIN I will stick this one somewhere so that it is not lost under a pile of paperwork!!
I hope the dentist has been able to relieve your pain. I, too, get thrush whenever i take antibiotics and just give up and take a course of anti- thrush stuff at the same time. Although haven't needed ABs for at least 4 years now.

Chairmum - How exciting!! I wish I could have a bit of the nesting instinct, without the 9 months vomiting and feeling rubbish before hand! oh and the baby at the end. I could do with it though to help me get my place a bit straight.

Ellie - I gave up trying to get on MN last evening. I think the site must have had "issues" again. - too much trolling going on, maybe.

Linzer - Glad you had a good weekend away.

Waves to MissB, MrsD, DWM, DEM, Biddy Nettie Etc.

Right, "visitor" has left (thank goodness) Weird situation and not one I particularly liked, but done now!
Good productive morning before work:
Dishwasher -done
Washing machine unloaded
Washing on line -YAY First in the road to have it oout this morning!! - I am so sad, I am sure nobody else even notices!! Just a little internal pride and competition with all these mega organised, super duper, tidy, organised, super mums/housewives around here! It makes my day
Washing machine loaded again
Sandwiches done
kitchen cleared
Shopping done before work
Freezer + fridge load put away, rest to do when I get home.
So far good morning at work. I think I have nearly finished here, so may get home early.

So much for my short post, God help me (and you) if I ever say I am going to type a long one

PositiveAttitude · 17/05/2010 12:16

manic waves to SC - I X-posted!

swanriver · 17/05/2010 13:32

nettie I was thinking of being interested in boats too see it could just be a diversionary tactic..
feetheart my dentist says if I miss another appt he will strike me off

absolutely floundering here sorry nt to say hellow properly,
kitchen tidy, but flying not really working here at moment Forth Bridge comes to mind

just had elderly neighbours for cup of tea
going to take some rubbish to dump now
pay gas bill and school dinners
bought some new clothes at weekend (major stumbling block of summer wardrobe overcome
back on bodyclutter regime
spent most of Sunday eve de-nitting kids [tmi] it is extraordinary what a lot of time grooming takes - I had more respect for my cat now

Hope someone's cat if feeling better too, can't remember who,
and SC no tears now, you are Safe.

Stillcounting · 17/05/2010 16:12

absolutely SR and boy am I relieved and grateful

lol at time spent grooming -

also lol at NettieS encouraging smile to her departing dh (hark at you - you are on a roll today)

Manic waves back to PA

Stillcounting · 17/05/2010 16:14

PS Swan having elderly lady to tea is worth ten tidy houses so don't worry about floundering

biddyofsuburbia · 17/05/2010 16:41

Oh dear. Was just reading through the thread to catch up and read today's babystep. I always say bedtime is 10:30 and I never stick to it, I just get into bed then and start reading. Was going to write an update, but I've changed my mind. Everyone seems cheerful today Back later hopefully.

elliepac · 17/05/2010 17:51

Evening all, flying in and then out again. Have managed a quick tidy, dinner cooking and washing on. Am going out tonight. Every year our department runs a trip to the battlefields of France and Belgium, tonight is a 'reunion' night where pupils and parents come and watch the DVD of the trip and then go bowling. Am taking DS who is impossibly excited. Will be back later. .

droitwichmummy · 17/05/2010 17:58

Evening! Left work early to check Daisy cat was ok. She is shouting at me and looking out of the patio window so seems to be fine. WOund is still intact and I don't think she has been scratching too much today.

DH managed to put some washing on the line today (had to ask him or he wouldn't have thought of doing it.

Jobs for tonight-
ironing
try to let one cat in without letting other one out
give Daisy meds
DS to bed ON TIME!
DW on (DH managed to unload and reload it without being asked!)
put washing away (got my mountain put away yesterday so only today's to do)
water garden (although badbadkitten says there will be heavy rain tonight so might not)
2 mins kitchen hotspot
15 mins dining room table
bed on time

Lots of waves to everyone - welcome back sc. Might be back later.

MiniMarmite · 17/05/2010 19:41

Hi Ladies

I hope you are all well.

We had a great holiday but have, unfortunately, returned with colds and the bathroom renovations are really behind schedule...never mind, a good excuse not to declutter for a couple of days!

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 17/05/2010 20:10

Evening all,

SC / PA I never had this urge with DS at all so its a bit strange!

nettie sounds like a very productive day!

swan if you had people over for tea then you're clearly not as bad as CHAOS at least!

ellie I did a trip like that at school (and another to berlin) and both were amazing!

DM hope daisy manages to stay healthy

MM welcome back!

I've finished my list and am relaxing in bed trying to wind down in the hope I'll actually be able to sleep tonight (only got 4 hours last night!). Of course I should probably stop eating these choccy biccies.

H mowed the lawn and took all the heavy stuff out the shed like I asked, and the bedside cot is up so I will be able to finish all the baby prep this week I hope. Perhaps if I've done everything I will be able to stop nesting!

I've got a friend coming to get me (don't drive) to take my round to her house (the one that was supposed to pick me up has had her baby already!) so I should have a nice day and won't be doing too much flying! Might bake cakes to take for tomorrow though. DS likes cake baking!

missbennett · 17/05/2010 22:04

Evening!
Wow I am in awe at everyone's list! chairmum nesting with chocolate biscuits sounds like bliss!
I've had a horrid day at work - meeting after meeting and the big boss 'having a go' at us all
But I've come home and had hair cut - very short (was shoulder length!) and layer-y and I am VERY PLEASED with it DD1 hates it and is clearly giving me the cold shoulder. Perhaps she'll come round - do hope so as it will take a while to grow and DD2 is too interested in her blue streak to comment. I know, I know, I was never going to let my teenagers do wild things like dye their hair blue but hey, sometimes you have to choose the battles Friend says I look younger so 'tis an excellent result
And my sink is shining and the floor is hoovered. Better go to bed while I am on a roll...........

feetheart · 17/05/2010 22:18

Chairmum - am actually quite impressed by your nesting as my own efforts stretched to about 50mins whilst waiting for midwife to do home visit after my waters broke at 2am in morning. That was second time around, didn't do any at all with DD
Bed, choccy biccies and making cakes for nice day out sounds like just the thing, enjoy.

PA - sadly none of the anti-thrush stuff works for me any more Only thing that usually works is to cut out sugar and yeast for about 2-3 weeks whilst on ABs. This is not likely to make me a happy bunny though as almost everything has sugar in it and I have a sweet tooth.

swanriver - think I'm one of my dentist's best patients, I'm always there

dwm - glad Daisy cat is up to shouting

Didn't do badly today and got to bottom of ironing pile tonight!

  • condolences email to friend - done
  • Morning routine - failed on cat litter again
  • buy planter and card for said friend - done and delivery organised
  • dentist - - done I have two different sorts of ABs, one lot to take now, one if first lot doesn't work and we are in a farmer's field in deepest Suffolk
  • Sainsburys shop on way home - done
  • afternoon/evening routines - still to finish off
  • DS to swimming lesson - done
  • Bed by 10.30pm - I will do it tonight so better shift

Waves to all

feetheart · 17/05/2010 22:23

X-posted MissB - hair sounds lovely.
at blue hair, I'm sure I will be there in time, have already had discussions with DS (4) about the large snake tattoo he is going to have when he is 18 and that he wants a motorbike

Nettiespagetti · 17/05/2010 22:32

Evening all.

even the lads at wormwoods on the telly can't keep
me awake do gonna keep this short!

Nettiespagetti · 17/05/2010 22:37

Oops

MrsDinky · 17/05/2010 22:56

Evening all,

Sorry not to have been about much the last few days, have been scanning the thread and trying to keep up but feeling a bit lost for anything interesting to say! Still feeling pre-occupied with footballing matters at my beloved Pompey if truth be told.

Anyway,

MissB hair sounds nice. I am currently going the other way, had it short for years now shoulder length again. Had it cut today, and my hairdresser straightened it for me (tis randomly wavy/curly/bushy and has never seen straighteners before), so despite having had an inch taken off it looks 2 inches longer, and feels silky smooth. Possibly I might have to invest in some straighteners...

DWM - hope Daisy is recovering. Does she have to wear a lampshade to stop biting her stitches?

Nettie - exciting about new glasses! I only replace mine every few years as have very expensive prescription and mostly wear contact lenses, so a new pair is v.exciting.

Feetheart - oh dear maybe I am old fuddy duddy, but I will so cry if my DCs ever have tattoos.

Waves at Linzer, SC, SR, Chairmum, MM, Ellie, Biddy, PA, everyone

Today I have

Morning routine - done
Evening routine - done
Hairdressers - done
Gym - done
Sainsburys and unpack - done
Hoover downstairs - done
Ballet/Beavers run, including stay and help with Beavers - done
Volunteer to help one afternoon a week at DDs preschool after half term - done (anything to not have to do housework!)
Ironing - 10 mins done, pile barely touched
Washing - one lot done, to put away before bed
Water plants in mini greenhouse - done

Tomorrow hoping the weather will be fine as I have a long list of garden jobs to do. Night night everyone

DidEinsteinsMum · 17/05/2010 23:35
elliepac · 18/05/2010 06:21

Morning all,

Sorry about lack of round-up last night. For some reason my wireless/broadband does not seem to be liking the evenings at the minute. Sat there for half an hour trying to get connected and it would let me, then crash, let me then crash yet working fine this morning. Grrrrrrr.

Anyway, Today's babystep is the eleven commandments. I know some wise people here have printed these out and posted them to pinboards across the land, so have a read, some useful reminders/tips.

The mission today is here.

I promise i will sort connection out so I can do round-up tonight . SOrry.

Have a good day everyone!

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 18/05/2010 07:26

Good morning,

I'm one of those who has printed out the babysteps and have put them up on my fridge in the vain hope that I might actually take some notice of them. I had to explain to an Austrian friend of mine yesterday what "pamper" and "lace-up shoes" meant (she thought the latter meant stilettos, which I'm as likely to wear while flying as lace-up shoes - I don't possess either ).

MrsD Your hair sounds very like mine - I have invested in some straighteners as I've occasionally had my hair straightened at the hairdresser's and am amazed at the difference it makes, but still haven't plucked up the courage to use them.

Nettie Glad you found the dogs eventually. I spent far too much of yesterday afternoon trying to track down my mobile phone - eventually found it in DH's car (after a drive to the station).

feetheart My three are already very into "tattoos" (or transfers as we used to call them in my day...) - and DD1 did have an obsession with motorbike helmets for a while; she wasn't quite as interested in the motorbikes themselves though.

I've been struggling to motivate myself since our weekend away, and the amount of stuff that the DC manage to accumulate is driving me mad (not helped by DD1's recent first communion and the fact that the ILs insist on giving the DC presents every time we see them - not all that infrequently). I can just about keep up with the routines and missions when I don't have any work on (not the case atm) but I despair of ever getting the house decluttered. The DDs' room is particularly bad - and there was I, thinking that a playroom would keep all the toys out of their bedrooms. DH has bought DD1 a display cabinet for all her little plastic figures etc - needless to say, they never stay in there for very long (have just discovered a dozen on the breakfast table).

Today's list is much the same as yesterday's :

morning routine started
work about to start
finish unpacking
locate address book, and if successful:
send e-mail to Australian friend
get DDs to write postcards
write thank you note
phone friend re meeting up
afternoon and evening routines
ballet run
