May's Fledgling Flyers: shed that clout May Flyers are out

Welcome to the May edition of the fledgling flyers where we are going to merrily fly around the maypole, dusting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from May 1st.

Evening all. Been catching up with Ashes to Ashes and eating. Looks like every pot and pan used in the kitchen. Just stopping by to say hello really - spent too much time reading 'poo' threads!

dwm Glad Daisy OK, but sounds like quite a nasty op - will keep finders crossed for thursday. ACtually that reminds me - my two are outside, better get them in!

nettie you've been really productive - hope your sausage rolls go down a treat

ellie there is always dirt somewhere in my house even if I've just cleaned - don't worry about it I'm sure it's not that bad. My favourite issue is the gap under the front door, which not only lets the heat out but lets dirt/leaves/general grime in as soon as I've done the hallway. I have asked my DH several times to do something

Anyway, must stop prattling on. To make myself feel better I will post my list for today:

Got up with dcs after late night at school quiz
took ds to tennis
went to homebase for compost
repotted shrubs for front of house just bought from friend
Got dirt everywhere, trod compost into hallway
watered plants - hosed off outside window sills as noticed very grubby
read magazine bit of the paper
drank a lot of coffee
ignored ds stealing my phone from my handbag to play games while I was looking up julius ceasar on wikipedia (reading book set in republican rome and my ancient history is not that hot)
went to waitrose - wondered why they were trying to chuck me out at half six and finally realised it was because my watch was 40mins slow and it was actually ten past 7.
Had lovely time chatting to DS, listening to his reading and then reading him a secret seven book which I was quite enjoying
tried to use new bbq that DH bought today for our supper (old one literally fell apart last year) tried to help him connect to the calor gas. Asked if there were instructions. He said no. I read the connector. It is to connect to Propane. Not calor. which explained why it wasn't working
cooked food inside.
Watched ashes to ashes
wrote longest waffliest post ever on this thread.
hangs head in shame (at post and lack of flying)
Goes to bed!

Goodnight. I promise to be concise tomorrow.

PositiveAttitude · 15/05/2010 22:53

Good night everyone.

Biddy - I've had enough of the poo threads tonight. Silly Saturday!!

DWM - nGlad Daisy is home. Hope she doesn't try to get outside and run riot. Mine have never been terribly good at doing what they are told!!

MrsD - Hope you had a good day despite the final result.

Does anyone have the recipe for the honey and oat biscuits that was put on here a few months ago? Yet again I have lost it!! Just to save me doing a load of scrolling. I cant remember who posted it, and not too sure whether you are still with us, or moved on.

Good day full of busyness today.
Shopping
Tennis for DS
Work for DD2
Cooked a lovely vindaloo this afternoon with naan
Cooked yummy chinese chicken dish - first attempt - I will repeat it was hmmmmmmm!!
Baked a chocolate cake - apparently this HAS to be done to go with Saturday evening TV.
Washing x2
Dishwasher x3 (at least)

Night to everyone and see you all tomorrow.

DidEinsteinsMum · 15/05/2010 23:28

Ice bday cake
make apple cake
plant weird plants

Morning all,

step posting this morning as I couldn't find the power cable for my laptop last night .

Today's babystep is e-mails. A nice easy one for those of you (anyone?) who receive the 5 million e-mails from flylady. For those of you who don't, just take the time to consolidate or enjoy your Sunday!

Happy flying!

OP posts:
droitwichmummy · 16/05/2010 09:17

Morning!

Short list today but don't be fooled!
Ironing (remember all my washing yesterday?) press warming up
WM on done
Room rescue of dining room (ooer!)
cook lunch including rhubarb crumble
DW on x lots!
put all that washing away (and some which is still on bedroom floor from last time)
Give Daisy meds - 1st lot done 1 to go
Mow lawn if it dries anough

See you later

missbennett · 16/05/2010 09:44

Morning!
Why does it rain when we plan to tidy up the fromt garden? It is a jungle at the mo - still a heap of debris from when my DB pulled all the overgrowth off the roof and now the grass is growing over the pile. I am beginning to feel like I am inhabiting Sleeping Beauty's castle
Anyway, DH has left to collect DD2 - she has managed fine but they are all off on a walk this am so she is coming home early.
DD1 and I are off to church and my turn for Sunday school.
I have done 20 minute room rescue of downstairs and it's amazing what a difference that makes
So now I need to de-cobweb upstairs, hoover at some point and do the shopping. I have done a load of washing but will sort later when perhaps the rain will stop I am also going to change the beds.
DWM hope Daisy is OK today and takes her medicine like a good puss!
DEm I amlost didn't notice you there! But nice to see you

elliepac · 16/05/2010 12:26

Afternoon everyone,

JUst a quick fly by. In the process of cooking roast pork for lunch, just waiting for oil to heat up for roasties (not sure why you needed to know that ). Quite relaxing day here today. Have pottered this morning, DH has sorted concreting for rotary airer, DD has screamed and DS has been helpful. Am going to have lunch, put DD for nap and watch DVD with DS and then pop round to Dsis for a bit.

Have a lovely day everyone!

Evening all ladies

So sorry to have completely fallen off this thread

Combination of dodgy computer + had to go in to hosp for tests for one night and a day owing to very very long migraine-type headache that wouldn't go away - happily have been given all clear for anything serious and feeling cheery because dh pulled his finger out while I was away (or got cleaner in I suspect ) and house looked quite good on return.

Still feeling a bit spaced out though (have migraine symptoms without pain - very wierd) so daren't linger on here in case words start jumping about!!

Hope you are all OK and Flying high.

Sorry to hear that you and your ds are having a tough time DEM

Hope you are taking it steady Chairmum Nettie - way, way, down the thread I asked where you were located because I thought you were also on continental Europe without a vote - but realise now you were referring to the queues of people in Hackney and Newcastle-under-Lyme in etc etc [very slow on uptake emoticon )

Waves to Ellie Optimistic PA Mummy missB MrsD PushmePU Nettie Biddy Feetheart and everyone I've missed

Back when I'm feeling better -

Keep going everyone!!

Stillcounting · 16/05/2010 16:08

Stillcounting · 16/05/2010 16:09

Stillcounting · 16/05/2010 16:10

PositiveAttitude · 16/05/2010 16:28

Welcome back SC, you have ben missed. Sorry to hear you have been poorly and I hope you are 100% soon.

elliepac · 16/05/2010 17:28

Welcome back SC. We miss you when you are not here, place isn't the same without you .

OP posts:
biddyofsuburbia · 16/05/2010 17:29

Hi all, and SC - glad you have the all clear and that your house has not been visited by the mess bomber whilst you were away

I've been to Brighton to MILs today to get a dressing table (she's giving us as she's moving next week), so not been flying. Have put the WM on for school shirts & one more load after that.

Must try really hard with the evening routing this week as makes such a difference to the morning rush - so will start tonight. Trying a new lamb curry recipe for DH & will also try and ensure I've got a shining sink each night!

Hope everyone's had a good weekend. see you tomorrow!

missbennett · 16/05/2010 17:40

Just popping by......nice to see you SC and hope you're on the mend.
I've done this:
-got DH up and compos (sp?) mentus enough to collect DD2
-done Sunday School
-changed sheets on our bed
-done shop (and went to Waitrose - much more pleasant )
-started the front garden tidy-up - did an hour then DH said he's done as much as he can manage (he does suffer from emphysema so is limited to what he can do)
-taken and collected DD2 from confirmation class
-swept all the cobwebs away from the landing, bay window and conservatory
-washing on line

So all that remains is to cook tea, collect the Christian Aid envelopes and read my papers for tomorrow and I will begin to feel like a domestic godess

Nettiespagetti · 16/05/2010 19:24

Hiya everyone, welcome back sc

Made bed

un fly like sitting down wondering what to eat for dinner

tomorrow will do better!!!
Hope you all have good start to the week!

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 16/05/2010 19:37

missb - sounds like a lovely productive day

SC welcome back. migrane like that sounds horrible! I am not taking it easy, but I'm not overdoing it either

ellie sounds relaxing!

DEM Glad to see you're still with us a little bit! Sounds like a nice way to spend day, but then I love baking and ikea!

I have been feeling much better today - just like a nasty cold, and we're all used to fighting through them.

Did some decluttering this morning (went to ikea with SIL on friday and got a bit of storage) then went for a carvery with SIL and her kids and walked home (nice and slowly with a dawdling toddler) then played in her garden for a bit. DS was so knackered

Hadn't done any flying for a couple of days but I am pleased to report that it has only taken me an hour or so to catch up on it all, just by running through my routines! It really does make life easier and I could kick myself that I never saw how much difference a little each day makes, and how much more cheerful I can be in a tidy house! Can't hoover cos DS is crashed out in bed, but thankfully I have a carpet sweeper too so it looks nice and tidy

Just a few bits to finish tonight:

  • swish and swipe bathroom
  • sweep kitchen floor
  • put away clean washing
  • menu and shopping list

Then I am off for an early bed with my hypnobirthing mp3s and sleep music. I bought the relaxation stuff last night after I had a mad urge to get back out of bed at 10pm and do some decluttering cos I couldn't sleep. Must learn to relax!

LinzerTorte · 16/05/2010 19:59

Evening all,

I haven't had a chance to catch up properly with the thread yet, but just wanted to say that it's good to see you back SC. As an occasional headache-verging-on-the-migraine sufferer I literally feel your pain, but it must be a relief to know that there's nothing seriously wrong.

Could the nesting instinct be kicking in, Chairmum?

MissB - of you almost feeling like a domestic goddess; I still have a long way to go!

We got back earlier this afternoon after a lovely weekend away, although the weather could have been better. Luckily there was plenty for the DC to do at the hotel and it was dry enough for them to be able to play outside a bit (while I stood by shivering). We arrived home to pouring rain and no prospect of an improvement in the weather this coming week...

I think my flying today will be limited to shining my sink; I'll have to finish off the unpacking tomorrow, although I have done a load of laundry - and persuaded DH to do the ironing (as it's mainly his shirts).

Hope everyone has had a good weekend!

elliepac · 16/05/2010 20:41

Evening my lovelies,

Have had a nice relaxing day today, just sitting down to watch a bit of TV and then going to do my evening routine.

linzer glad you had a nice, if chilly, weekend. Always nice to get a break away from it all.

chairmum how lovely to hear you feeling so positive about the house. Well Done! Sounds like a similar day to mine .

nettie what did you decide on for dinner? Anything exciting? I had decidedly unexciting egg sandwiches?

missb a busy busy day you domestic goddess you .

biddy good luck with the evening routine, it really does make a difference doesn't it but sometimes i sba (struggle to be arsed) to do it!

sc glad the illness isn't anything too serious although am sorry you have been feeling rubbish. Glad DH has been looking after you. I have to say that mine is rubbish on a day to day basis but in a crisis (eg. when i was in hospital with DD late last year) he is brilliant. Take it easy and look after yourself.

dwm (and dem even though she isn't here ) am of rhubarb crumble. No-one here likes rhubarb so I neve have it. Seems greedy to make one just for me. Always reminds me of being a child because my mum always used to make it on a Sunday!

dem impressive/nice list, I won't tell anyone you were here. Hope you are ok. .

Big waves to everyone pa sr mrsd pmpy feetheart om, hope you have all had a fabulous weekend.

MrsDinky · 16/05/2010 20:47

Well, quick post from me as DH is waiting to get on the computer.

Big day out yesterday, Wembley for the FA Cup Final, the result didn't go Pompey's way, but it was a great day out. Sad that the future looks so bleak for them all though. My pics are on FB if anyone wants to look (PA yes I have included some of your boys lifting the cup etc). Has taken me over an hour to load them up, sometimes computers drive me nuts.

Not much else to report, will make a longer post tomorrow.

DidEinsteinsMum · 16/05/2010 22:04

2 loads dishwasher
6 loads washing machine

water up.

feetheart · 16/05/2010 22:18

Just about caught up but won't remember much as am battling tooth/jaw ache - dentist tomorrow for anti-biotics I think
V p*ssed off at this as it means I have to go on no sugar/no yeast for a couple of weeks (I don't react well to ABs and have to try as hard as possible to head off the dreaded thrush - sorry if TMI) AND we are on holiday from next w/e, I'm going to have to plan what the hell I can eat whilst camping - arrrgggh.

PA - it was me with the Honey and Oat biscuits (well its my Auntie Trisha's recipe, possibly acquired from my Granny)

4oz butter
4oz castor sugar
1 teasp honey
1 teasp bicarb
4oz SR flour
4oz oats

  1. Melt butter and sugar, add honey and bicarb
  2. Add flour and oats
  3. Put teasps of mix on baking tray (should make about 24) and flatten a bit
  4. Bake 8-10 mins at 170C. I tend to turn trays round after 8 mins but I do have dodgy oven!

Want to go to bed but attempts at Domestic Goddess-ness means I still have bread in the oven. Must read recipe better, especially bits about it rising

Nettiespagetti · 16/05/2010 22:35

To get ahead of my game tomorrow I am going to post my list tonight

Ouch to trip to dentist poor feetheart I hate teeth trouble grrr

Good luck tomorrow everyone x

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 17/05/2010 06:42

Morning all,

nesting hyperactivity has kicked into overdrive here and I got a total of 4 hours sleep last night! Argghhh.

No DS tonight tho so that's one less disturbance at least.

Jobs to do:
morning routine
ds to nursery
charity shop run
stuff from Argos
food shop
ds from nursery.
Pub lunch with SIL
afternoon routine
dinner for H who is coming round to do lots of heavy lifting for me
evening routine
try to sleep!

elliepac · 17/05/2010 08:20

Morning all,

For whatever reason, after i did the round-up last night, my computer wouldn't let me come back on to post today's steps so here they are. Today's babystep is bedtimes. A tricky one that a lot of us struggle with yet an important one.

Today's mission is here. We are in the bathroom this week.

Have a good day everyone.
