How do you all store art stuff like felt tips, scissors, glue etc?

We had a hanging thing with pockets, which went on the door next to his little table, but it was cheapo plastic and has ripped.

What do other people use? We haven't really got shelf space for this kind of thing, and even if we did, I am not sure what I would store it in. I like him being able to reach it from where he is sitting - maybe a little organiser with drawers in? We're short of space tbh. All ideas gratefully received.

I am still using a Nappie-box we got given for ds1 11 years ago
We have decorated the sides with cut out things as I couldn't bear the cutsie-wutsie motif. When not in use it acts as a footstool/repository for piles of paper etc

ZoeC · 03/04/2009 19:55

I have a storage basket with it all in - paper, pens, all sorts in there.

southeastastra · 03/04/2009 19:55

ice cream tubs in an ikea blue bag

FrannyandZooey · 03/04/2009 19:58

right i need more specifics
what do you mean a nappie box molly
what is one of them?

zoe do you mean it is all together in one basket? doesn't it get muddly? we have so much crap

sea now that sounds sensible but enormous. also the lids would all get left off by ds1 and it would end up in heap at bottom of bag

I have a small IKEA 'BILLY' bookcase with a door at the moment but as soon as DD2 is old enough I have grand plans for surestart centre style easy access storage next to a low table that we have already.

Something like this maybe.

MrsMcCluskey · 03/04/2009 20:00

I have a little set of 3 plasti drawers that sit on the table. Got it from Somerfield just after Xmas and it is just the right size for all that stuff

Kathyis6incheshigh · 03/04/2009 20:00

We have a vile plastic chest of drawers in the kitchen under one of the worktops. Bottom drawer is playdough and cutters, middle is painting and gluing stuff, top one is paper and crayons.

MollyRogerslikeanEasterabbit · 03/04/2009 20:02

I have been trying to google. Am out of practice with the right terminology.
IOt came from mothercare. Was sort of like a cool box with handle, but for storing all the stuff you needed for a nappy change, with a lift up lid and little drawer section for cotton buds etc.....
Who knows what I mean??

BeehiveBaby · 03/04/2009 20:03

www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00112880 to go on to the table?

FrannyandZooey · 03/04/2009 20:04

ah beehive we have one of those

  1. it is filled with other non arty crap
  2. it won't fit next to his table
  3. ds2 will be able to get to it soon and reach all the pens

kathy i want the vile plastic chest of drawers
where do you get them?

mrsmc i don#t think our table will be big enough

I have stuff spread all about the house. It is a nightmare and an endless search for cellotape or glue.

I need a craft organiser of some kind.

feelimmature · 03/04/2009 20:07

I have a similar thing to that Ikea one, made of wood which I have painted.

sagacious · 03/04/2009 20:07

I do icecream tubs as well... all neatly labelled/decorated by dc

I'd love a big wnacky basket to put them all in put they're piled in a big plastic box with a lid on and shoved placed in the playroom

Kathyis6incheshigh · 03/04/2009 20:07

Franny I'll ask dh - he came home with it one day thinking it would do for toys in the living room but there was no way I wanted it in there. It is ideal for art stuff actually.

NorbertDentressangle · 03/04/2009 20:08

Lots of plastic drawer options here in Argos We have the second ones down.

Not the most aesthetic of storage but it serves a purpose

FrannyandZooey · 03/04/2009 20:08

ooh
what do you think?
i googled vile plastic drawers

Guadalupe · 03/04/2009 20:08

I kept some christmas chocolate tins for this purpose but they are still lying about the house sans craft and in the way.

BeehiveBaby · 03/04/2009 20:08

Or a big tool box under the table?

FrannyandZooey · 03/04/2009 20:08

oh ta norbert
yours are very vile, excellent

MollyRogerslikeanEasterabbit · 03/04/2009 20:09

I have just realised - I have an entire wooden chest also filled with arts and crafts stuff. it has become so much part of the scenery buried under piles of crap that I had forgotton about it

I like arts and crafts way more than my children do...

MollyRogerslikeanEasterabbit · 03/04/2009 20:10

lol at vile drawer googling

NorbertDentressangle · 03/04/2009 20:10

They may be vile but they're in DD's room !!

BeehiveBaby · 03/04/2009 20:10

Muji for non vile but £££!

FrannyandZooey · 03/04/2009 20:10

that tool box would be SO popular with ds1
however he would fill it with string and nails and it would never be seen again

you know i think we HAVE vile plastic drawers in the garage
but i need smaller ones
and to rejig the living room
there is no room for anything
