Divan beds. To valance or not to valance?

I don't do frills!

Is there an alternative to valances to cover up the bed base.

Tell me everything you know.

How about making your own with a single pleat at each corner - I think you'd have to have some shape to it, or it'd just look weird.

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2009 19:06

at this thread's content - this will kick off!
No idea sorry
I hate valences - buy a bed that doesn't need one!
Sorry, I bet that helped!
You can get sheets with inbuilt valences, you still get the frills but at least they get washed every time you wash the sheet. PLus iirc it wasn't frilly, more straight with a bit in the middle that was cleverly folded, didn't look as old fashioned iyswim

FigmentOfYourImagination · 22/03/2009 19:06

You want a box valance. No frills but no hideous divan base fabric.

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2009 19:06

PLEAT
That's the word I was looking for! In the middle of each side there was a tiny pleat

FigmentOfYourImagination · 22/03/2009 19:08

Like this

traceybath · 22/03/2009 19:08

yes - just get a plain one with corner pleats - most places, eg m&s, next etc do them.

dragonbutter · 22/03/2009 19:10

i know this is a sensitive subject but...
i'm not getting a new bed, i luuuuurrve my bed. yes it was MIL's choice (wedding present) but it is amazing.

the base isn't offensively patterned or anything, it's plain white (well maybe not exactly white)

i need links girls, links!

rusty, make my own? who does that?

dragonbutter - a friend of mine makes all her own bed linen - she's married to a diplomat & has some lovely ones she made from Indonesian batik materials.

springlamb · 22/03/2009 19:35

How mean to even consider having a valance.

A valance denies daylight to your dustbunnies and if you can't see 'em you might forget to feed 'em, with horrific results. Reporting you to the RSPCA now.

dragonbutter · 22/03/2009 19:37

aw man, up on animal cruelty charges.

I wish your meet up had been this weekend instead of next, 'cos I might have dropped in wearing my MN bat badge to see if you'd spot me - I was in Exeter yesterday picking up DD's stuff from university (not DD, just her stuff -she's gone off to Budapest & left it all for us...)

ShadowOfBlueTiger · 22/03/2009 19:38

Ummmm db, did you really pick a Sportacus Valance???

QS here

dragonbutter · 22/03/2009 19:41

lmao, no i didn't. don't worry. that was my little joke.

OP posts:
dragonbutter · 22/03/2009 19:45
