Bedlinen: if you don't do the ubiquitous crisp white bedding look, what do you do?

Because I'm starting to find it all a bit dull.

OP posts:
ninedragons · 02/09/2008 10:25

Plain white.

DH has a set with cartoon ladybirds and clover leaves that pre-date our relationship, obviously.

Every once in a while when I am feeling naff I put them on our beautiful antique four-poster bed.

maidamess · 02/09/2008 10:28

Mrs Tittlemouse, do you really seep all over the bed? Poor you.

We have white, lovely pintucked crisp white. Apart from dh's pillow which is yellowing, dribbly and covered in hair .

Anna8888 · 02/09/2008 10:28

Our bedroom has white walls (albeit with art deco mouldings) and parquet floor and white shutters - no curtains or carpet. I have white sheets/duvet cover/pillow cases with a single embroidered pink square line on for high summer.

For greyer days, I have one set with a mid-pink undersheet and pink small flowered pattern buttoned duvet cover/pillow cases and another set with a cream undersheet and cream background/larger pink flowers duvet and pillow cases.

Anna8888 · 02/09/2008 10:31

I covet the Amanda and Amanda/Amalia from Bellora (where I got my sheets from).

MrsTittleMouse · 02/09/2008 10:37

Last time I gave birth I had maternity pads, which were changed regularly thanks to DD waking me up for very regular feeds, and I slept on a horrible maternity mat thing from Boots, and I still managed to bleed on the sheets. It went on for 6 weeks too. No wonder I was so exhausted. I suppose I thought that it was normal.

notsoteenagemum · 02/09/2008 10:44

Poor you Mrs TittleMouse.
White seersucker(SP?) for me looks best un- ironed And if anyone can iron a fitted sheet please tell me how?? and why??

makeminealargeoneplease · 02/09/2008 10:54

Has to be white....always. Don't seem to have a problem with keeping them clean, even with 2 toddlers and a dog. Although dog not allowed upstairs. Good hot wash and good washing powder, .....where's the problem? If you hang correctly on the line, i don't find I need to iron. OP, nfk, You could always try white with a print or tasteful embroidery which is a welcome alternative for me. Eg a toile always looks nice IMO. I have just invested in a plain cream bedspread, and pillow shams...although I'm not sure I need it, but something I've always wanted and twas a bargain!

bozza · 02/09/2008 10:57

We have cream/beige stuff going on here. With choc brown fleece throw across bottom of bed which can be pulled up if cold.

elkiedee · 02/09/2008 11:40

Our bedding is navy, red or navy and green. One of the oldest sets is from Debenhams and there's some M&S/Next too, but recently I've bought at Ikea and Habitat - I do like cotton/cotton jersey.

thumbwitch · 02/09/2008 11:43

I have various different duvet sets, but mostly varying on a cream to terracotta colour theme (although I do have a spring green one with pale orange poppies) - but I have had them all for a looong time as I really can't be arsed to spend money keeping up with fashions when I have perfectly good linens already!

cremolafoam · 02/09/2008 11:48

ok bedroom sage green and white with dark furniture
bedlinen white
throw sage green
covered by white crochet bedspread
and a paisley quilt ( green and pink)on top
splashes of shocking pink( cushions and candles)
sound mad but it works

MrsMattie · 02/09/2008 11:53

We have two duvet sets - one in 'Oyster' ( a kind of rich cream - not as brutal to keep clean as white) and another cream one with a gold embroidered pattern on it.

Cream walls, wooden floors, wrought iron bed, light-ish oak furniture.

sagacious · 02/09/2008 11:53

Plain cream

maidamess · 02/09/2008 12:01

Anna that is a magnificent website for bedding porn! I love all those crisp stripes

Anna8888 · 02/09/2008 16:47

I know, isn't it yummy?

I bought my two flowery Bellora sets in last year's January sale at -40%. If the stripy ones are in this year's January sale I shall probably succumb...

blossomsmine · 02/09/2008 17:04

I TRY to have white bedlinen, mine is all white with the occassional throw/cushion, my dd's are white and my ds's red (it works, he is trying to get the bachelor pad look!) But.........how on earth do you all keep your white bedlinen looking new all the time? Or do you buy new stuff regularly? I bought a new white set for the girls last August so it is now a year old but it already looks really tired and i need to replace it..... I have been thinking of changing us all to coloured bedlinen for that reason, but i really don't want to

Anna8888 · 02/09/2008 17:07

If it's all cotton and pure white, stick a couple of bleach tablets in with a 90° wash. Or use that Vanish whitening powder.

And use Ariel - it really is far the best (insider knowledge).

Tutter · 02/09/2008 17:08

all white here

plus bedspreads

cremolafoam · 02/09/2008 17:08

bedding porn and here ooh and here

Tutter · 02/09/2008 17:09

oh, and malory - bad news - feather and black were faultless in their service

blossomsmine · 02/09/2008 17:19

Ooooh! I didn't realise ariel was the best, i always swop about as never sure what to buy! Will be buying ariel all the time now then, thanks for the bleach tablet tip, hadn't thought of that either!
I do think there is something lovely about getting into a white, crisp fresh bed at nighttime

LittleMyDancing · 02/09/2008 17:24

white sheets
Moomin pillowcases (b&w, very tasteful)
dark green duvet cover and other pillowcases

no white here

can't sleep in white bed

feel like I'm sullying it by just lying there

and no crispness, due to no ironing

DrNortherner · 02/09/2008 17:25

I have white, with a sage green throw folded at the end of it and sage green scatter cushions.

Vulgar · 02/09/2008 17:45

I have white duvet cover but with candy stripe sheets (vintage, darling)

Wish you could still buy those old fashioned candy stripe sheets. I've got a pink one , a lilac one and a multi coloured one.

Love those vintage frilled stripe pillowcases they used to do as well. Any ideas on where to get some?

Anna8888 · 02/09/2008 17:59

Old fashioned candy stripe sheets here
