Miele or Bosch washing machine for sound sensitive family

Hi,

I am trying to work out whether to buy a new bosch series 6 or 8 washing machine or a new miele for about a max £1500 budget.

My husband finds the noise of appliances very difficult to live with because of sensory sensitivity to white noise. We spend all our time sitting in the kitchen/dining room where we have the oven, dishwasher and washing machine bashing away all the time.

ChatGPT says the noise of a miele is "more refined" and I wondered if you might have any idea if that is right? They are roughly similar in decibels.

I have a 12 year old miele and it is definitely more quiet than my old series 2 bosch, but I know the current generation may be very different, and the bosch was not very high end.

I'd be glad to know what you think is the easiest to live with noise-wise. We're not think of buying a £3k miele but could stretch to £1500.

Thanks!

My Miele beeps constantly when finished - I have no idea how to stop this

Thinking of buying this one.

Bosch Series 6 WGH254A0GB i-DOS Freestanding Washing Machine, 10kg Load, 1400rpm Spin, White

I went to John Lewis the Miele screens were a bit pointy on the eyes, but the Bosch screens were okay.

"Pointy on the eyes" ???????

I can't find that one on their website but, if a current model, the manual and data sheet should be on the bosch website.

This one arrived, here, this morning. It's had its preliminary drum wash, which seemed nice and quiet and is currently dealing with DS2 's overnight laundry. The beeps are gentle, the end beeps the same twinkle as my bosch series 6 dishwasher and tumble dryer and the instructions are clear for turning the volume down or off.

FWIW we used to have a Siemens, which was the best machine we ever had. Built like a tank, and lasted 20 years. Though I guess like many other things they may have gone downhill since then.

We’ve just got a new Bosch and the irritating beeping noise longer happens. At most there is 1-2 quiet beeps to signify machine is finished. I think the machine is pretty quiet but it’s in a utility so I’m sure there is some noise when it spins. This is probably unavoidable in any machine.

DoNotSitDownNextToMe · 27/05/2026 13:09

Bosch machine on at minute and I can hear spin cycle at top of stairs even though utility which is off ground floor hallway has its fireproof door closed so probably not what your looking for.

Is it on a solid floor or floorboards? That makes a big difference.

DoNotSitDownNextToMe · 27/05/2026 13:38

Tiled floor.

Tiled floor.

Put it on a sound absorbing mat. It'll make a huge difference.

I’ve gone off Bosch. First washing machine from them did over ten years and was sold with the property we left it in. Newer one and a Bosch dryer 5 years ago dire. Washer had to be fixed when just out of the two year warranty and whilst it still works in terms of washing, spins stupidly loudly. Dryer on its last legs. Will have to replace both before the year is out. Not impressed at all.

DoNotSitDownNextToMe · 27/05/2026 13:57

Our Bosch is significantly quieter than the one we had 20 years ago but it’s never going to not make any noise. It has the tumble dryer on top of it so I’m not sure if that helps or hinders. It certainly doesn’t rattle and shake like the very first one we had. Is any appliance really going to be silent? With air fryers, microwaves, hobs, ovens etc in a kitchen, it’s the noisiest room in our house as most now indicate with a noise when finished.

DoNotSitDownNextToMe · 27/05/2026 14:04

I should have said it’s a Bosch Washing Machine WGG254Z0GB_WH. It’s series 6 and said to have 10kg drum, perfect for large families, powered by the quiet, energy-efficient EcoSilence Drive inverter motor. I think it’s been superseded by a version with “1” in the serial number before the GB. I’m happy with it and it’s definitely quieter than the two previous ones I’ve had, both for 10 years and without the irritating beep machine #2 had.

BeaTwix · 27/05/2026 14:06

I got a new series 6 washer dryer a couple of months ago it is really quiet and I love the drum light (mine is in a dark laundry cupboard)

i went Bosch as my friend has had endless problems with a Miele one. And it was much cheaper!!!

Scareystress · 27/05/2026 18:27

Recently went out to buy a Bosch, but chose an AEG series 7000 instead. Mainly as bigger door opening. Much quieter than the Samsung it replaced, and the 1400 spin has drier results than the 1600 from the Samsung.
No App on the AEG, but never used it on the Samsung.

DontEatTheMushies · 27/05/2026 18:55

As a kid our miele was always quiet. We just rexently got an LG and that thing is soooooooo quiet. We do have it through in the veatibule though, but on a joining wall, but I forget its on.

I have a Bosch washing machine and whilst it runs very quietly, the beeping at the end drives me insane. It beeps two irritating notes repeatedly, every few seconds until you open it (my Bosch tumble dryer also does it with a slightly different tune.)
It’s surprisingly annoying if you can’t immediately drop everything to get to the machine, so something to consider with this brand.

This can be turned off; I agree, it's annoying.

VividDeer · 27/05/2026 19:57

My Samsung is not quiet

MabelAnderson · 27/05/2026 19:58

I have a Miele washing machine and it’s pretty quiet although it’s 19 years old, and has started to bang a bit on the spin. As pps have said the newer ones are different. I found the sales people in John Lewis really helpful, maybe go in and chat to them ? I have a new Bosch tumble drier, it’s fairly quiet.
I used a Samsung washing machine when in E Asia and it was quiet, apart from playing an endearing little tune when the cycle ended !

Thesleepycat · 27/05/2026 20:01

Hi there

we have a Bosch washing machine and find it pretty quiet - apart from when it beeps when it finishes a load! I can put it on at bedtime knowing it won’t disturb anyone either - if I’ve been too disorganised to get a wash on beforehand. Do you know anyone with a Miele or Bosch that would let you have a listen to a wash?

ours was making a noise once just after installation but all that was wrong was that one of the legs needed made level with the others.

as an aside - I wouldn’t buy any other white goods these days apart from Bosch…. So I may be biased! Find them cheap to repair and very reliable.

good luck with whatever you decide!

LethargeMarg · 27/05/2026 20:08

ive always had Miele washing machines (not as high budget as yours though) and they’re great apart from ive always found the spin cycle very noisy. Our current one I think must have taken a knock as it sounds like someone’s banging on a garage door on the final spin cycle.

Fourkgtogo · 27/05/2026 20:12

We have a Bosch (I’m usually a Samsung girl) I’ve had the machine for two years and it’s absolutely rubbish - just out of guarantee and it now doesn’t spin properly and the detergent drawer has never opened properly so had to buy a new drawer. It cost £850 and it’s the worst machine I have ever owned.

beigetriangle · 27/05/2026 20:17

have recently replaced miele with bosch.
bosch (series 6) is a lot quieter, but the spin cycle of course makes some noise.

the miele had a 'quiet' button, but that was a bit of a con as it just stopped the machine spinning.

NotReallyNotOftenAnyway · 27/05/2026 20:34

@LethargeMarg We had that knocking noise just before the machine went bang. It went on for a few months. then there was this terrific bang and now the drum is no longer connected to the machine. Something called "The support spider" broke. I like that there is a support spider.

Yes I was going to say exactly the same about the Bosch, the beeping at the end of the cycle is so annoying, plus although when it starts it is quiet it does make a noise , obviously , when it takes water in and spins it out. I do anything longer than 1 hour overnight, the short wash (20 mins cycle) but the spin setting which seems I am unable to change leaves everything quite wet so you need to do a Rinse and spin after (12 mins) I tend to use the mixed load ( 1 hour) which gives a better spin. I bought mine last November.
I am not sure paying the extra for a Bosch was worth it, I had a Beko before and it was just as good, I only changed as I was having a new kitchen

TheDevilWears · 27/05/2026 21:10

I’ve never owned a Bosch but I bought a new Miele washing machine last July and it’s hard to know it’s even functioning it’s so quiet! It’s a W1. It was for a house my daughters lives in - I want one at home now!
