How do others deal with urine stains around the toilet?

TellEmAboutTheHoneyMummy · 14/05/2026 14:55

I am having trouble removing regular urine stains from DH around the toilet. It is becoming a bone of contention between us and ends up with raised voices when we discuss it. He tried aiming better and sitting down but the problem was just as bad.

On a daily basis there are orange stains down the front of the toilet and on the sides of the floor. These clear up easily with bleach spray but the silicon sealant does not. I see the marks every time I go in and I am embarrassed for others to use the toilet when they visit, I make them go downstairs.

The rows between DH and me is over why can’t it get less of a problem and why doesn’t he clean it more often? He says he wipes it up.

I am thinking of replacing the white sealant with black.

in the 70s we had grim smelly toilet maps. Should we get two of these mats and wash them regularly? I hate them though.

How do you deal with this? What should I do?

My DH would be cleaning it himself! Disgusting to not have basic clean toilet habits. A toilet mat splashed with urine? Yuk 1000 times over. Why have you married this Moron? I would be livid. Does he wash his hands? How long has he been like this? No respect for you or your living conditions. Just dreadful. No answers but he needs to change! Tell his mum what he’s doing!

CowTown · 14/05/2026 15:15

My DH doesn’t urinate on the floor (or if he does, he cleans it before I see it). Raise your bar, OP.

Georgiapeach21 · 14/05/2026 15:17

Lots of bleach! I’m suprised at how much mess he’s making though. Even my 10 year old has never been this bad!

I think shaving foam can help also (check in Google or YouTube) but i believe it’s good to neutralise odors

Pearl69 · 14/05/2026 15:19

Oh that’s grim OP. Dirty beast . He needs to be cleaning it up.

fantam · 14/05/2026 15:20

Eraser sponges are good for this. I have trained the offender.

PizzaPowder · 14/05/2026 15:21

I'd be more concerned that his pee is orange. Is he ok?

maybethisway · 14/05/2026 15:22

He tried aiming better and sitting down but the problem was just as bad.

Well he's not trying very hard is he. How is he pissing down the front of the toilet if he is sitting down?

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 14/05/2026 15:27

Probably drinks Tango.

BreakingBroken · 14/05/2026 15:35

Ummm angle of the dangle. When sitting if the angle isn’t right pee escapes between the seat and toilet bowl. Depending on the volume/stream the beginning flow and end flow don’t always go where the mid stream urine goes.
He might be unable to “see” the issue due to belly or clothing.
My suggestion would be to watch, see what the physical problem is, then have him take ownership and responsibility to clean up. If his pee is orange concentrated, he might be dehydrated and his urine volume might be too low for a good solid urine stream. Which might simply mean drinking more water.

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 14/05/2026 15:35

I got rid of the boyfriend and the stains got rid of themselves.

SALaw · 14/05/2026 15:40

“How do you deal with this?” This isn’t a normal problem most people are dealing with with the adults in their house?!

BillieWiper · 14/05/2026 15:40

How vile that he pisses on the floor and expects you to clean it up. Absolutely rank.

Tell him if he doesn't sit down while pissing you're leaving him and he is on bathroom cleaning duty for the next ten years.

rwalker · 14/05/2026 15:41

are you sure it’s him
Is it hard water area with high mineral content in water
or possibly the toilet has been cleaned with something too abrasive some the surface stains incredible easy

only time I’ve seen orange stain was in a bath and it come from the old style taps in the bath

Chasbo · 14/05/2026 15:44

Maybe a little duck in the bowl and stand over him whilst he learns to aim...

I assume he's not a 3yo? There's no excuse.

It would be a red card offence for me. I'm not a skivvy for a pisstaker.

Villanousvillans · 14/05/2026 15:46

LTB. It’s utterly disgusting.

wheresthesnowgone · 14/05/2026 15:50

Bleach bleach and more bleach

Jibaka · 14/05/2026 15:50

He sounds like a disrespectful pig.

That said, if he spills piss, then if it’s wiped with a baby wipe immediately, it will come straight off any hard surface or silicone sealant. Leaving it is the problem. I wouldn’t like to be spraying bleachy stuff so much.

I would put baby wipes (and a bin) next to the toilet and tell him to make sure there is no piss left on the toilet or floor or sealant, every time he uses the toilet.

HappiestSleeping · 14/05/2026 15:50

Christ on a bike. I'm a man, I lived on my own for 28 years, then 10 more with the late wife. It's a simple rule: if you sprinkle while you tinkle, be sweet and wipe the seat. Or floor, or tiles, or ceiling, or wherever it goes.

WTF is wrong with these men? Do they have so little self respect? It's not rocket science FFS.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 14/05/2026 16:02

Everytime he does it, call him in and he cleans it. Again and again, until he gets it.

I would have thought that this is the only thing to do.

I am in my 60s, had a few boyfriends & been married twice & never have I cleaned up their pee or needed to!

Is he unwell?

He does realise his willy needs to be inside the bowl if he’s sitting down?

Anon501178 · 14/05/2026 16:21

Why on earth can't a grown man aim properly?! And you shouldn't be clearing up his mess. Not sure why it is staining so much....is he severely dehydrated?!

maybethisway · 14/05/2026 16:21

maudelovesharold · 14/05/2026 16:20

To be fair my toddler struggles with this on the potty sometimes 😂

Wamid · 14/05/2026 16:30

Bleach only masks the stain. He needs to clean it up from the whole toilet (with attention to detail) completely, hand wash basin and floor, with disinfectant first and bathroom or kitchen cleaner: EVERY SINGLE TIME he uses the lavatory. Also he needs to disinfect the taps, flushing handle, and door handle/lock at the same time. Leave all the cleaning implements and liquids in the lavatory ready for him along with a pack of disposable cloths.

p.s. I am a hard woman and won't stand for any nonsense: Did this with some male family members!

SweetBaklava · 14/05/2026 16:36

LTB 🤮
