How do others deal with urine stains around the toilet?

TellEmAboutTheHoneyMummy · 14/05/2026 14:55

I am having trouble removing regular urine stains from DH around the toilet. It is becoming a bone of contention between us and ends up with raised voices when we discuss it. He tried aiming better and sitting down but the problem was just as bad.

On a daily basis there are orange stains down the front of the toilet and on the sides of the floor. These clear up easily with bleach spray but the silicon sealant does not. I see the marks every time I go in and I am embarrassed for others to use the toilet when they visit, I make them go downstairs.

The rows between DH and me is over why can’t it get less of a problem and why doesn’t he clean it more often? He says he wipes it up.

I am thinking of replacing the white sealant with black.

in the 70s we had grim smelly toilet maps. Should we get two of these mats and wash them regularly? I hate them though.

How do you deal with this? What should I do?

Ummm angle of the dangle. When sitting if the angle isn’t right pee escapes between the seat and toilet bowl. Depending on the volume/stream the beginning flow and end flow don’t always go where the mid stream urine goes.
He might be unable to “see” the issue due to belly or clothing.
My suggestion would be to watch, see what the physical problem is, then have him take ownership and responsibility to clean up. If his pee is orange concentrated, he might be dehydrated and his urine volume might be too low for a good solid urine stream. Which might simply mean drinking more water.
This is such a helpful and non judgemental post
Thank you very much @BreakingBroken for taking the time to post this.

I know that bleach on white plastic toilet seats discolours the white making it look stained.
Could similar be happening to the mastic ?

FeralWoman · 14/05/2026 17:42

When he sits to pee is he holding his penis and pointing it down? Is he retracting his foreskin when he pees so it’s not ballooning up full of urine?

Make the dirty bastard clean it up each and every time. He can’t just wipe it up. He needs to follow that up with some sort of cleaning liquid and remove all traces of the urine.

Does he drink enough water? Does he need to get his urine checked by a doctor?

Backedoffhackedoff · 14/05/2026 17:48

He’s not going to clean it.

i know 2 people who got divorced in part because of skid marks on the loo

How do others deal with urine stains around the toilet?

I don't.

I don't need to because DH (aged 74) can aim perfectly well. Any man who can't is either lazy or needs to see a GP if he can't make it to the toilet in time.

My solution would be to put his favourite T-shirt on the floor around the base of the toilet. I bet he will try harder to aim properly.

Or just pick it up and put it away?

Bristolandlazy · 14/05/2026 18:12

I read that it's often women whose pee ends up down the front of the bowl. It's to do with the angle they sit at.

I would buy some bathroom wipes or bum wipes and leave them in the bathroom. It does sound gross.

searchforthesun · 14/05/2026 18:13

You do know that this isn’t normal and most people aren’t dealing with this shit (well piss!)?
Is he ill if he’s got orange wee, can’t aim and can’t clean up?
is honestly be leaving over this and I’m not saying that lightly. He clearly has no respect for you.

Meetmeunderthemoonlight · 14/05/2026 18:23

So your husband pisses all over the toilet and floor then just walks away for you to clean. Is that right? If so he honestly doesn't think highly of you or your home at all in fact the complete opposite. Find some self respect op and don't stand for it anymore.

Then use the T-shirt to mop it up 😁

CurlewKate · 14/05/2026 18:34

I wouldn’t deal with them. Because frankly, I wouldn’t be with a man who made them-and even if he did would clean them up himself.

FeralWoman · 14/05/2026 18:39

Is he taking high doses of vitamins B or C? That might be making his urine orange and causing the staining.

Fight back. Start peeing on the seat, especially if there’s a regular time you know that he’ll be sitting down to use the toilet. Just a decent dribble, not a big puddle. Maybe leave a bit of period blood casually smeared on the floor or on the seat. See how he likes having to deal with someone else’s bodily excretions.

AltitudeCheck · 14/05/2026 18:46

Grim 🤢 I'd tell him that I'll be using his towel/ face cloth / shirt to clean it up from now on!

lottlecat · 14/05/2026 19:11

How do you deal with this?

It’s unlikely many people are dealing with this tbh. I’m sorry OP but he is utterly vile and you are a mug for cleaning up his piss. How gross.

PlainSkyr · 14/05/2026 19:14

He needs a separate toilet and you need your own. He can revel in his handiwork himself. Keep him out of your toilet.

mumumental · 14/05/2026 19:15

The answer is that he doesn’t want to. He thinks it isn’t his job.

SpiceGirlsNeedAComeBack · 14/05/2026 19:17

sorry op but this isn’t normal. He needs to clean up his own piss.

suki1964 · 14/05/2026 20:03

@TellEmAboutTheHoneyMummy , I feel that I must be the most fortunate woman alive, dh doesnt pee on the floor

Seat splatter is another matter altogether

My sister had such trouble with a family of boys, had to rip the floor up

So please dont be feeling you are the only one, happens in the best and cleanest of homes

Not sure what flooring you have in your bathroom? I find vinyl is the best because the fitters can totally lock it in - all sanitary can be sat on top, no need for sealants and anything that can go mouldy and yellow and be embarrassing

Silicone is a nightmare for staining and discolouring

Loos are easily wiped

Plastic seats discolour with sunlight as well as use In work we have a lass who likes her fake tan - loo seat shows it lol

Ive just had to rip out a bath , it was plastic, never bloody used, was as yellow as anything . Now a niv=ce white enamel bath, I might just take my first bath on 20 years :)

Bleach on plastic and sealants make them more discoloured

ArcticBells · 14/05/2026 20:09

I think you need to watch closely and establish why this is happening first of all. Does he spray rather than have a good stream? If so, there could be a slight narrowing of the urethra or a physical reason. I would need to eliminate this possibility.

He is a grown adult not a 3 year old.

maudelovesharold · 14/05/2026 16:20

He does realise his willy needs to be inside the bowl if he’s sitting down?

This made me chuckle 😂

eurochick · 14/05/2026 20:48

Why tf are you dealing with this? A grown man should be able to piss in a toilet bowl. And is perfectly capable of dealing with any mishaps. He just thinks it is your job.

TellEmAboutTheHoneyMummy · 14/05/2026 21:53

Bristolandlazy, that is an interesting take, I will check that idea out. Thank you.

Thank you everyone for your useful ideas - my earlier thanks seems to not have posted correctly! I will certainly try wet wipes. And look into the suggestion about girls.

ButterYellowFlowers · 14/05/2026 21:57

I have never had to deal with it because my husband has never left urine stains on the toilet. How disgusting. If his urine is staining sealant then he’s very dehydrated and I wouldn’t be cleaning his piss up.
