Flylady Thread: Fledglings flying into Sunny September

It's September, a good time for a fresh start! Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.
Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day has a different mission for the zone we are in.

Daily focus:
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time , they do update at midnight for you. Although there are some issues with the website and app right now, so bear with me!

And I am sorry to hear things are so busy and stressful right now ED, I hope finding a new care home is easier than it sounds 💐

EffectivelyDecluttering · 28/09/2025 07:06

Thanks @THISnewbeginning he is getting good care in hospital at the moment, we are just waiting for his care assessment so we can start making a shortlist.

Re Velvetisers, they are expensive, ours is actually DD's as it was a Xmas pressie a few years ago. You can get cheaper alternatives which according to many on MN are just as good. It does only make one cup at a time and you have to wash it out by hand.

THISnewbeginning · 28/09/2025 07:10

Hand washing is fine but I'd like to be able to make atleast 2 cups at once....I may have to look in to this further

I'm glad the hospital care is good, this can be hit and miss sometimes can't it. Knowing he is being well looked after must help a little.

EffectivelyDecluttering · 28/09/2025 07:27

Before we had it we used to make hot chocolate on the hob using a little battry operated whisk, it took a few minutes but you could do as much as you liked and get good results. You have to use a heavy bottomed pan and low heat to stop it burning or boiling (boiling makes it get a skin on it, yuck).

THISnewbeginning · 28/09/2025 07:54

I feel like DD (12) could manage using a velvetiser type thing unsupervised but I wouldn't trust her with a pan. Definitely going to give this more research!

Ta da
💛 dishwasher on
💙 washer & dryer on
💚 dry washing sorted

DillyDeclutter · 28/09/2025 12:25

Morning

Sorry to hear things are still hard ED.

I was given a velvetiser for my spring birthday, it is still in the box . . .

Today's baby step is just about keeping on top of your routines.

No missions at the weekend, Sunday is renew your spirit day.

Would anyone be able to run the thread in October? It's a busy month for me so I'd rather not. September has been fun though!

I've done a LOL this morning and kept on top of the dishes, the dc have started a Sunday sports club so Sunday mornings have suddenly got a lot busier.

I also managed to hoover all the bits our cleaners usually miss yesterday.

I am too unreliable to run a thread unfortunately!

HazelNotHungryLC · 28/09/2025 21:03

I could probably run October, if no one else wants a go/are able to. It will be a bit busy for me, but I should be able to manage it.

Today is MILs birthday, so we had a brunch for her at our house this morning. I had help from DH & DS to cook/prep food.
I did have to wake up at 6:30am to get it all done though.
We had made American waffles, British pancakes (as a crepe cake with bananas and buttercream frosting, as well as with lemon juice & sugar), fruit, whipped cream, gammon and eggs. It was a success!
I have already cleaned the kitchen up, had DS rotate the DW, which is running now, and wiped down the stovetop as I made a mess while cooking this morning. Handwash dishes are done and mostly put away, some are still drying.

DH & I are going to the next big town to go bulk shopping (we're running out of a lot of things, so it's going to be expensive 😞), while DS stays home and cleans more instruments with his friend. Hopefully we'll work on Halloween decorations some more (nothing is out yet though).

Morning everyone ☕️

I had such a busy week and weekend , I didn't get more of the bedroom done but I'm happy with the clear surfaces and will keep on top of it until the zone comes around again !

I visited dd1 at uni yesterday, the city is so beautiful and isn't very busy which's suits dd1, she seems so very settled and happy, it was lovely to witness. No tears when leaving and when i FaceTimed when I got home around 8.30pm she was stuck into her pre reading which she says she can't actually class as work because she enjoys the topic and finds it interesting!! All positive signs ❤️ she is coming home next weekend and during the October reading week and wants to plan more family visits to her so she still is a home girly , but has found a good circle of friends at uni which helps !

I'm not sure what my to do list is today, losing the weekend has made the week a little disorganised so perhaps ironing, meal plan and food shopping (I have planned and got clothes for today ready before going so at least this morning will run smoothly) the home blurgh will be shifted along a day .

Regarding velvetisers, I have a hotel chocolate one which we use a lot in the colder months and may buy dd1 one for uni .

EffectivelyDecluttering · 29/09/2025 07:13

Ah that's lovely @Searchingfordaffodils , I visited my DD yesterday too, likewise she has settled in and is ready to start properly today.

DillyDeclutter · 29/09/2025 09:07

I am about to start a new thread for October. It's been a very hectic day today so I haven't had a chance to do it yet. I haven't forgotten!
I'll post the link here once I've got it done.
