Flylady Thread: Fledglings flying into Sunny September

DillyDeclutter · 31/08/2025 20:05

It's September, a good time for a fresh start! Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.
Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day has a different mission for the zone we are in.

Daily focus:
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time , they do update at midnight for you. Although there are some issues with the website and app right now, so bear with me!

Great ta da lists This& Hazel!

Some great TaDas here!
I semi cleared the hot spots in my dining room, which boiled down to throwing out rubbish, putting stuff in the recycling, took the laundry upstairs, and reorganised the mess. It all has a home to go to, but that all needs organising before I put anything else away.
My energy levels are so low, and I've got another virus, so by the time I've cared for the horses and dogs I've got nothing in the tank for anything else.

Alwayslearning25 · 15/09/2025 13:25

In the naughty corner. Going to attempt 10 minutes each home blessing once lo is down for a nap before I go on the school run as flylady suggested. I expect nothing will be done well and I'm not doing sheets, weather is too wet and we have no dryer.

Alwayslearning25 · 15/09/2025 15:59

Tadas
10 minutes each with a focus on master bedroom and bathroom, except mop which was kitchen.
Mop
Mirrors and doors
Hoover
Dust

HazelNotHungryLC · 16/09/2025 03:36

Dilly did you enjoy your weekend away?

Cherry well done on clearing a hot spot! Sorry to hear you're unwell again. I hope you feel better soon!

Great ta da list Alwayslearning25!

I worked today, so I didn't get any flying done. I just went to a band meeting, watered my outside plants and got dinner ready, using some freshly harvested cucumbers.
DS rotated the DW and I wiped the countertops down.

CherryogDog · 16/09/2025 08:25

Put two LOLs away.
Half heartedly hoovered upstairs, might not do that again because I stubbed my toe on it getting up in the dark because I'd left it by the bedroom door 😆

Sorry for the double posting, not sure what happened there!

Alwayslearning25 · 17/09/2025 06:38

I've read a morning musing and am sharing my thoughts...she said, when your house is tidy and clutter free you will go on a shopping trip and come home with nothing. Because you didn't love anything enough to let it clutter your house. She was specifically talking about cheep things from yard sales. Fortunately, we don't have yard sales. Instead, I have vinted, Facebook marketplace and, my kids favourite the charity shop. Until recently I haven't bought much. We've talked before about autism on this thread and an autistic trait I have (I'm not diagnosed btw) is I've found shopping overwhelming, esspecaly when hormonal (teenager, pregnant etc). So it goes two ways, I don't go shopping, or if I don't buy much/ anything.

But something in me the past month has made me buy junk. More from online. So today I'll stop. I also struggle to get rid of junk in our house...

'Our yard sales never happen. You know I am telling the truth. So unless you have access to one in the next few days, donate your clutter to a good cause. You will be so happy you did. Besides getting the clutter out of your home( this makes us very happy), we are helping others. Whenever we give of ourselves, we get back more than we have given. You all know this is true. We just need to do it.'

But charity doesn't always want my stuff so it's hard to know what to do with clutter.

DillyDeclutter · 17/09/2025 07:14

Morning

Always I struggle with this too. I do try to buy as little as possible new, but im very susceptible to a good Vinted or charity shop buy, or a bundle passed on from a friend. I sell a bit on Vinted, it can be a bit stressful, and I give away a lot through our local freecycling Facebook group.

Good tadas Hazel, we don't do seasonal decorations as there are too many birthdays coming up!

Wednesday is anti procrastination day. I have some forms to do for school (again . . .)

Today's baby step is to set a bedtime and stick to it! Mine is bed at 10 and lights out 10.30 http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-17/

Today's mission is to tidy your medicine cabinet, throw away expired things and wipe down the shelves.

Today's Other Room mission is to spend another five minutes in there just tidying.

Our weekend away was brilliant but the packing and unpacking and catching up on All The Things has left the house a bit chaotic.

Hello 👋 sending a morning coffee to those who need it ☕️

It's been a busy busy time for my family , dd1 has now moved to university, very strange feeling having her living away but she is having a great time so far and staying in touch so that makes things easier!

You can imagine after a wedding , holiday and a university move , lots of things are disorganised at home. I have some time in the evening today and tomorrow to start getting the structure back!

Anti procrastination tasks:
📋 take school shoes back to next ( yes they have been sat on the stairs for a few weeks waiting to be returned 🙈)
📋 send an email to my second workplace to finish setting up the account
📋 order an outfit for upcoming wedding !

My zone tasks
📋 15 mins in the bathroom
📋 30 mins clothes away (choosing to get on top of the rather than a room)

I have got an hour when the house is empty this evening before I pick dd2 up from gymnastics, I'm hoping to get the above tasks completed before 7pm so I can spend that hour doing something I enjoy and make the most of the time to myself - it doesn't happen very often. I feel a little selfish taking time for myself but I am hoping a little rest will make me more productive? Am I fooling myself , will I be riddled with guilt afterwards 🤪

DillyDeclutter · 18/09/2025 09:34

Morning!

Thursday is errand day. I have two loads od washing out and next job is preparing the shopping list and meal plan!

Bathroom mission is to give your sink, taps and counter top (if you have one - i dont) a really good clean.

Other room mission is to spend another five minutes clearing rubbish

Baby step is to read the Flylady 11 Commandments on the website

Shopping
Hospital appointment
Tidy up entrance hall (it's suffered from our trip away)

Put away all the washing once it's dried!

How did you get on yesterday Searching, did you manage to have a rest?* *

Morning

Friday is clean out your car and purse day. My car is OK but handbag needs some attention!

Today's mission is to mop your bathroom floor. The other room mission is to do a 27 fling boogie - throw away or put away 27 things in your room of Doom.

Here is today's baby step. I am unclear what actual action it translates to!
http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-19/

Got through my list yesterday except the shopping. That'll have to be sorted today!

Dilly is everyone feeling better in your house now? A tummy bug is awful!

I'm going to need to get a new handbag. The one I have is really starting to drive me crazy! The shoulder strap is removable, but keeps unclipping itself on one side. Not good. I'm not sure when I'll get a new one though. It's not very old, I bought it back in May.

DillyDeclutter · 20/09/2025 13:15

We are all better thank you!

It's so annoying finding the right handbag isn't it. I always keep mine way past the point of decency.

Saturday is family fun day. No missions at the weekend. Heavy rain all day here so im batch cooking while the dc do lego.

Baby step 20 is to learn about laundry: http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-20/

What's everyone up to today?

Just popping in to see if your DD had gone yet @Searchingfordaffodils I see she has, glad she's made a good start. Mine went today and the house feels quiet (but tidier). We have had a similarly hectic week, graduation for DS (night away needed), an important care meeting for DF who sadly will have to move to a nursing home and DD going today. Next week I have a several hundred mile round trip for a funeral and then a family birthday. Hoping October is a little quieter but suspect elderly parent care is going to be top of the agenda for some time.

HazelNotHungryLC · 21/09/2025 02:51

EDI'm sorry to hear about your dad. I hope he gets the care he needs in the nursing home.
It sounds like you're busy right now too!

Dilly I'm glad to hear everyone is feeling better now!
Today DH & I were playing softball. They were tournaments for suicide awareness. So we played 5 games! We lost 4 of those games though, so we do not go back tomorrow and play more. I'm secretly relieved about that, as we have other things to do (okay, it may not be quite so secret!). It was a lot of fun though, and for a good cause.

DillyDeclutter · 21/09/2025 07:12

Morning

Sunday is renew your spirit day - do something to refresh yourself. Here we will go to church.

No missions at the weekend.

Baby step 21 is to keep your daily routine going and to read some Ask Flylady on the website:
http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-21/

OP posts:
DillyDeclutter · 21/09/2025 07:15

ED that all sounds very hectic and stressful.

Hazel that sounds fun, I don't think softball is in my skill set! * *

I have two children's parties to plan and need to make some progress on those today. Two LOLs in progress and DW emptied. It's stopped raining!

Hi,
We recently got new windows in the back of the house. Today is colder but the house is staying much warmer and quieter. I changed the bedding though to our winter duvet, it may drop in the night and we've not put any heating on yet. So that's part of the house blugh done. Which zone are we into?

My DD has a few birthday parties this time of year and is upset she wasn't invited to one. DH birthday is coming up, not sure what to do for it. He'd like the house a bit cleaner and tidier in sure!

Dilly commiserations on the stomach bug. We have colds but that's not so bad.

EffectivelyDecluttering · 21/09/2025 21:16

@Alwayslearning25 we replaced our living room and all the bedroom windows a couple of years ago and agree it really helps with warmth. I have added thermal blinds at the back of the house this year mainly to keep cool in the heatwaves but hoping they will help with winter chills too.

Tada!
4 x LOL washed and line dried (1xclothes, 2xtowels, 1xbedding)
Stripped and remade our bed putting the electric underblanket back on
Put away summer dresses and got out jumpers
DH vacuumed downstairs
