Flylady Thread: Fledglings flying into Sunny September

DillyDeclutter · 31/08/2025 20:05

It's September, a good time for a fresh start! Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.
Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day has a different mission for the zone we are in.

Daily focus:
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time , they do update at midnight for you. Although there are some issues with the website and app right now, so bear with me!

Thanks Dilly.
I already have a "Ta-da!" as, while I was waiting for the kettle to boil, I cleaned the hob <smug>
I also fed the cat, shined my sink and checked the mouse-traps (see mention of cat 😼) while downstairs.
Now back in bed with coffee.
DD and the DGCs are coming round later so my Ta-da! after that will be clearing all the toys away 😊
My house bleurgh is usually split over Thursday and Friday so the place doesn't look too bad.
Re the cauliflower: I really like curried cauliflower soup and roast cauliflower (either florets or one whole one).

Alwayslearning25 · 08/09/2025 08:16

I layed in slightly this morning as feeling groggy and not at work but got the kids to take on the school run soon. But I was out of sync with DH so couldn't do my morning routine when I did wake up so I'm feeling disorientated. As in he was back from walking the dog and in the kitchen before me. I can't stand the noise he makes in the kitchen so early so I have to stay far away.

Bedding is in the wash. For my new habbit I'm doing the bedding every Monday morning now I don't work Mondays. Today ds has nursery settling session for 3 hours but I'm in there sone of the time doing paperwork so I'm not going home, but will probably pop into town, do some 'erands' and relax in a cafe with a book. Then ds should nap on the drive home and nap time should take up to school pick up. Will hang up washing and make apple crumble in that time. Maybe more depending how energetic I feel. Maybe some hoovering.

THISnewbeginning · 08/09/2025 12:24

Afternoon!

Thank you for yesterday's birthday wishes for DS, it was not the babies birthday - he however has started school today so its all going on here!

I love cauliflower cheese soup 🧀

Searchingfordaffodils · 10/09/2025 06:54

Morning ☕️

Not too many tadas from me , I have updated my diary and calendar, everyone has been fed and have clean clothes to wear - I'm taking that as a win ! 🤪

My week has been taken up by uni prep with dd1, we've had a good conversation and she seems to have mellowed , asking for help with some bits and bobs rather than trying to do it all herself. I'm so excited for her but also terrified!

I'm working 9 - 9 today so there will be no flying again ! Perhaps next week will be a little more structured.

Have a lovely day everyone 💐

Alwayslearning25 · 10/09/2025 07:41

Tadas:
Last night I wiped down the kitchen surfaces and cleaned the kitchen sink.
Put on a load of washing.
This morning I've hung up the washing and done nursery paperwork put on a white load of washing.

Ds is having his last nursery settling in session9-2:30 so fits in with the school run and today I will do housework, jobs I've avoided and excersice.

To do
15 minutes declutter
Take return package to post office
Take bag to charity shop
Look at weekly missions... maybe mop kitchen floor.
Hang up washing
Make apple crumble
Prep dinner

That's probably enough to get on with....

Alwayslearning25 · 10/09/2025 12:03

I've hung up washing, done a 15 minutes rotating DW and emptying bins, wiping some surfaces. That's it housework wise. I listened 3 pairs of jeans on vinyed that are now 3 sizes too small for me so have passed inspirational into depressing. But I put them up for higher than recommended as there's no wear to them and I can't be bothered with packaging and labeles for £1-2....so I do need to take my box of vinted items to the charity shop next week. I need a system of clearing my wardrobes... might leave that for the correct zone as it's definitely procrastination for more pressing jobs.

Like cutlery draw is disgusting and I can never find anything.

CherryogDog · 10/09/2025 12:57

I've gutted my fridge, cooked all the veg which wasn't mushy, cleaned the sink.
Retreating to naughty/sick corner.
I'm tired just reading all your TaDas!

Alwayslearning25 · 10/09/2025 13:47

@CherryogDog I'm sure my fridge has mushy food. DH does most the cooking, but I've done some and its chaos as neither is aware of leftovers. Yesterday I found pasta in a pan I'd forgotten to put in the fridge the day before. I texted DH to ask if some soup was safe for lunch, he said probably not. We're all exhausted from school and nursery starting and there are covered plates of my 2 year olds leftovers in the fridge, I had one of those for lunch with some kale I bought that's limp. The rest we are having with dinner, with leftover spaghetti Bolognese from the back of the fridge, I think that was Monday but it felt like a week ago.... but with fresh pasta.

Cutlery drawer not cleaned, apple chopped for crumble, I'll get the kids to help with crumbly bit once collected. I'm sitting with a tea in the naughty corner. Getting towards the end of my last settling in nursery day. I'm allredy planning an argument with DH because I didn't get much cleaning but nursery paperwork was all on me and it took up a lot of headspace. I need to remind him I'm dyslexic but he also doesn't like paperwork and does more than his fair share round the house so it's left to me.

Tadas
Nursery Paperwork
Bag to charity shop
Bins emptied

DillyDeclutter · 10/09/2025 18:37

Eek sorry im super late today! I do a long day at work on a Wednesday and am just meeting myself coming back . . .

Today's mission is to clear out the fridge so you're ahead of me Cherry!

Today's baby step is.about the power of 15 minutes, set your timer for 15 minutes and see how much you can get done.
http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-10/

Wednesday is anti procrastination day- what could you do that you've been putting off for a while?

Doing a mission on the right day is a first for me 🙂 even if it was just a coincidence 😉

DillyDeclutter · 11/09/2025 07:32

Morning!

Thursday is errand day, supermarket shopping day here!

We are still in the kitchen for our missions, today's mission is to declutter your foil and cling wrap. I don't use these so I'm going to do the plastic boxes cupboard instead.

Today's baby step is to write your favourite inspirational phrases in your control journal http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-11/

To finally return my package of school shoes that didn't fit is my errand, before I run over the returns time. Printer at home didn't print barcode clear enough so I will use the work ones and take on my lunch break.

Alwayslearning25 · 11/09/2025 09:06

Also, I love that babystep. Try asking chatgbt for one if you give it a little discrption of your struggles today. I had fun doing that.

DillyDeclutter · 12/09/2025 09:22

Morning! Friday is clean out your car and purse day. My car needs it and the windscreen needs a clean inside too with all this low sun. It's also date night!

Today's mission is to check (under your sink, although that isnt where i keep mine as have small dc) whether you need any new cleaning supplies.

Baby step 12 is to delete all Flylady emails - but as you have hopefully not signed up for them you could maybe just have a bit of a digital declutter instead.

Eventually I got fed up of going back to the garage in the dark when I realised I couldn’t find car keys or driving glasses or phone. So I check I have receipts, cash, and all these other things after each journey. It’s about the only tidy thing in the house right now

EffectivelyDecluttering · 13/09/2025 07:27

I need to do the inside of my car windscreen too, I gave it a good go with Method window cleaner a few weeks ago but it is still smeary in the low sun. I need to park it down the road facing into the sun to do it, the sun is side-on on our drive so you can't see what you are doing properly. Not that it looks as though there will be much sunshine this weekend.

I also try and take everything into the house every time but don't always manage. DH lets his car get into a terrible state and then has to take a bin liner out to it. Mine sometimes gets cluttered and I do the same but it is mainly random coats, water bottles, pens, gloves, hats, not actual rubbish, his is coffee cups and food wrappers.

DH and I have been away this week and left the DCs home alone for the first time. The house wasn't too bad when we got back but DD's uni packing for next weekend is everywhere. Solidarity @Searchingfordaffodils ! Mine goes next Sat but in the meantime we are away again during the week for DS's graduation, it's a busy time.

HazelNotHungryLC · 13/09/2025 16:55

I washed my Jeep on Thursday, it was really bad. I still need to vacuum and detail it, but I'm not worried about that just yet.

Ta das so far today:
☕️ got dressed and tamed my hair
☕️ got dinner in the slow cooker
☕️ rotated DW
☕️ wiped countertops down

It's almost 10am. I still need a little makeup on before leaving the house. Coco has her monthly injection today (for her joints).
I will also need to figure out meals this week, go to the grocery store and make rolls to go with dinner tonight.
We cleared the fridge out last night, so it looks pretty empty!
DS still needs to vacuum and mop. I'll bleach the bathrooms. At least one lol will need to be washed today as well.
I'm enjoying my second cup of coffee before I do anything else!
Is everyone else having a good day?

THISnewbeginning · 14/09/2025 08:38

Morning all

Very tired after first week back in work & dc very tired after first week back to school / college!

Did not achieve much in house yesterday and now feeling pressure to get it done today! Any spare motivation?

HazelNotHungryLC · 14/09/2025 14:59

I'll send you some motivation THIS! Can you get your DC to do a little bit of something each? I'm talking about things like: picking up toys, give one a duster, have one sort clothes into colours, have one vacuum (even just one room). If everyone pitches in it'll be done in less than an hour (hopefully) and you can relax!

YesTaDas:
🫖 took Coco to the vet
🫖 cleaned the pool so it could get emptied
🫖 grocery shopping
🫖 made rolls for dinner
🫖 decided to spray my windows down on the outside as they were dusty

We have screens on our windows. The screens seem like they'll break when we try to remove them, so I've never actually properly cleaned my windows 😳. However, DH discovered that we can actually remove the windows to clean them on the outside! So he helped me with the living room windows yesterday (before ILs arrived for dinner).
So guess what we will be doing today! I'm actually embarrassingly excited about this! But now I know, I will be able to keep them clean easy enough and clean them periodically.

Also today DS needs to clean the bath. His friend came over yesterday to clean instruments. It was just going to be one, but they ended up cleaning 4 instruments! This involved the bath and now there is a dirty ring around it 🤬

The pool will be completely empty this morning (especially once we have the pump on it to drain it), it will get dried and put away.
I plan on redoing my nails today too, I'm not liking the colour they are this time.

THISnewbeginning · 14/09/2025 16:29

Thanks hazel

I have got quite a bit done. Main thing to do now is iron the bits of uniform that need it. I managed to hang some things straight from the dryer so they will be fine without but I feel like polo shirts always need an iron. Keep meaning to try one of those hand held steam things instead

Well done THIS that's a great ta da list!

Ta das:
🍯 rotated DW
🍯 handwashed dishes from last night
🍯 put handwashed dishes away
🍯 helped DH dry the inside of the pool most of the way (we're letting it air dry the rest of the way
🍯 tamed the tomatoes in the garden
🍯 2nd lol in washer

There's still more to do, but I'm sitting down with some chamomile tea and honey, trying to fight a cold.

DillyDeclutter · 15/09/2025 07:28

Morning! Sorry I disappeared- away for the weekend and forgot my phone charger. Modern life without a phone is a challenge!

Monday is home bleugh day, sheets, hoover, etc.

Today's baby step is to add making your bed onto your morning routine: http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-15/

Today we have moved zones into the master bathroom and one other room, ideally your dumping ground room (thats my study).

Today's bathroom mission is to wipe around the base and back of your toilet. Today's Other Room mission is to set your timer for 5 minutes and remove any rubbish.

I also need to do many many room rescues. It's amazing what a mess packing and unpacking for two nights away can do!
