Outs today include:
5 dresses
3 skirts
2 jackets

My wardrobes are now organised. I have three plastic boxes of clothes - jumpers, summer clothes, winter dresses that I don’t fit. I love these clothes but I’m going to label the boxes and revisit them in a few months. I’m not ready to get rid of them yet. They’re all sizes 8/10 and I’m size 16 so maybe it’s time for a diet. When summer’s over I’ll be able to put some dresses in them too to clear my wardrobe a bit more and will be a proper adult who rotates their wardrobes seasonally.

Realfastfoodie · 22/08/2025 16:13

Another shelf tidied/cleared out today and some kitchen decluttering. Some ribbon, chopsticks, old sticker books and sone general rubbish like receipts hiding under the clutter. YTD total now up to 825.

Realfastfoodie · 22/08/2025 16:13

Quite a few bits in the charity bags too.

PeonyPatch · 22/08/2025 16:18

I have a week off next week so looking forward to having a good declutter alongside relaxing!!

I have some Denby crockery that we no longer use, so I’m considering putting it on eBay.

mutleyschuckles · 22/08/2025 16:34

Hi- 2 bin bags taken to charity shop this morning. Got someone coming to look at taking away 2 of my old motorbikes later today.
I bin bag of assorted rubbish out of the child’s room & a carrier bag of clothes that really could do with the bin but I keep rewashing them & putting them back. So they are now in my suitcase for when we go away in October. I will wear them there then bin - leaving room for any souvenirs the child picks up (Disney!- they’ll be loads 😂) also have a bag for life of on vinted things. If they don’t sell by October they will be donated as well.

Sorry - 20,000 staples - so just a few boxes.
Apologies if you thought it was something more substantial!!

I was feeling very inadequate in my efforts 🤣 Although scarily it might be 20,000 if I had ever counted

PeonyPatch · 22/08/2025 17:20

I sold two jackets on Vinted this morning - one Barbour and one Colombia

CheesePlantFeet · 22/08/2025 20:12

Decluttering has definitely taken a back seat for the past few weeks. It's been so tricky juggling work and school holidays!

My outs today were...
Charity: 2 shirts, leggings
Vinted: top
Bin: shirt, plastic cable tidy

Total 1551

LR47 · 22/08/2025 22:25

so I’ve decluttered my entire bank account as the summer holidays are never ending. Added lots to the credit card though so I won’t count that 😉

outs:
5 picture books
a pair of pyjamas
a toy my son never plays with

total outs for this year so far = 833

IndianSummer78 · 23/08/2025 00:33

One beaded jumper with some beads missing. Total is 3829

LivingDeadGirlUK · 23/08/2025 05:54

I got 5 kids tops out yesterday via our local free site. This weekend I will be putting together a bag for the charity shop including bits I've listed that have no interest.

For today I have my eye on a couple of areas that have gathered clutter but also need to do some gardening too, given I am awake this early we will see how things go! :p

kryptonfactor · 23/08/2025 15:27

A good week for me considering I've been ill.

3 items sold on Vinted and 4 more listed
8 x books sold on the World of Books app - love this and have got rid of so many old books this summer, have probably made around £45 in total
4 books taken to the book donation point in our local supermarket
Binned one old hoodie and one coat (which I would have Vinted but discovered it had a hole in it - oh well)
Recycled some miscellaneous old magazines and concert programmes (never buy these anymore)

Realfastfoodie · 23/08/2025 17:56

Well done everyone, lots of good progress.

I filled two big bin bags and just chucked loads of stuff out including a falling apart handbag, some runners I couldn’t remember what they were for, piles of loose random fittings screws etc, and some genuine rubbish /recycling. Counted at least 40 things, probably more but I ran out of time to properly count. Put out a Trunki and a couple of plastic boxes that didn’t work for me.

I think I’m up to 885 for the year now. And at least 4 full bags for the charity shop.

LR47 · 23/08/2025 18:38

Sold 4 items on Vinted and put 15 in the charity bag. Really pleased.

total outs: 852

Yesterday - sorted through all the little odds and ends that get chucked in an old wooden bowl for no reason other than laziness. Binned a handful (literally) of rubbishy bits and pieces.

Child’s outgrown straw hat put aside for donation.

About a dozen board books and an unopened set of sensory toys are ready to go to any nursery that wants them. Also large BookBug cuddly toy.

Today - discovered woodworm in three drawers. Emptied them and put them in the garden for disposal. Sorted through the contents, and got some scruffy packing paper and cardboard into recycling trolley.

Recycled some waste photocopying.

Disposed of some laminated display items unused for several years. Clothing ruined in wash, worn sock and pants in the bin. Empty bathroom items disposed of.

Repurposed some display labels and elastic laces for this yr. If they turn out to be unhelpful, they will be binned.

Hasthisreallyhappened · 24/08/2025 07:57

Posting for accountability that I WILL go in that wretched garage today and oust everything for the tip, and book a tip appointment for tomorrow.

Life went sideways but in a good way so have spent two whole days with friends and family but if I have to step over those two boxes on garage floor anymore to get to the freezer I’m going to yell.

(also planning on stock taking the freezer, it’s mahoosive, and pretty much full, and every time I go in it I can’t find something I want to eat - but I have this habit of looking in the fridge at veg and thinking I won’t eat that this week and chopping it and freezing it for stir fry’s but then cook stir fry’s fresh from the fridge. )

LR47 · 24/08/2025 10:58

sold an item on Vinted which I will post this afternoon
put 2 pairs of trousers in the charity bag
posted a dress on Vinted which I will charity if no one buys

total outs this year: 856

Pigtailsandall · 24/08/2025 11:42

I haven't posted for a few days so missed out Friday and yesterday. Friday the cat knocked off a plant and the pot broke, so that went in the recycling. However, I did have a spare one so that's out of storage and in use now so guess natural decluttering.

Yesterday binned an old kids' early years exercise book which was full up and now too easy

Today's out is a slime toy which dc got for birthday. We did it last week and now it's ok to get rid of it as it was the making that was fun. It was chunky so happy with that.

Can't believe we are on day w35 already! Year is going so fast!

Pr1mr0se · 24/08/2025 11:52

I spend a great deal of time moving things around the house (tidying up) and due to issues from childhood struggle to get rid of anything.

I am looking for practical tips for making a proper start that I can then repeat...

Oh and only just found this thread so a bit of a late-comer too. Never to late to start though!

UncertainPerson · 24/08/2025 20:35

Hey @Pr1mr0se I sometimes watch some TV shows before I start decluttering. Marie Kondo’s approach is nice because you thank the object for its service before you let it go - this can be helpful emotionally. I also like Sort Your Life Out, which I think is really supportive.

The best way to start is with one small corner, or a single shelf or drawer. Or even just by moving one single thing on out of the house, if that’s what you struggle with.

It’s helpful to get to know the ways to pass things on in your area, like the local rag bin, recycling centre, charity shop. Starting off with one small bag helps you to build that knowledge up over time.

In a year’s time you’ll be so glad you started today, with just a couple of things. Good luck.

UncertainPerson · 24/08/2025 20:36

Today I gave away the kids easel which is so bulky, recycled and binned a box of toys. And listed more stuff on Vinted and eBay.

Workisntworking · 25/08/2025 00:57

I think I'll.join 'the count' to try to motivate myself.

Cleared out the study on Monday. I'll call that 200 items - I think counting 20,000 staples might be cheating a bit Smile

Chucked out 2 hair products which were unwanted freebies and a tanning body moisturiser that has been on a shelf for c.8 years.

Count = 203.

declutteringonedayatatime · 25/08/2025 09:18

I have managed to finally sell two items on Vinted after a lot of time wasting with other people's offers. I have some packing paper left from another parcel I had so will be using that up to secure the items (on top of the bubble wrap etc around it).

I am also waiting to see if someone will be picking an item up today after they spotted it on Facebook Marketplace.

LR47 · 25/08/2025 09:59

sold and posted another 5 items on Vinted.
