Everyone else is doing really well. @TidyClutterIsStillClutter- wow this is good! I think it’s just as much decluttering to find things and put them to good use as to get rid of things! Well done @Sundrops, we have found it hard to get on top of multiple meds mountains… it might take a bit of effort to find the system which works for you x

Riverswims · 19/11/2025 09:26

ok well I thought Id popped onto here then I read “mine is head sized I might need to cut it in half” and I was picturing a big ball of compacted clutter bits and cutting it in half with my 18cm chefs knife and sorting it out lol 🤣😂 🤷🏽‍♀️ then I realised I was on that strange tip thread about microwaving swedes 😝🤣 happy decluttering today everyone

Aha! A way of decluttering swedes out of my kitchen and probably into the bin…

I have lots of outgrown Christmas jumpers and dresses to list on Vinted. Once they have been up for a while I'm going to donate the rest. Dd did a cull of her wardrobe so I have asked her to do her draws too. She is doing amazingly well now with her clothes.

I'm going to my storage locker this afternoon hopefully so I'm going to bring back a box of toys to sort to donate to eldest school fair

SydneyCarton · 19/11/2025 15:03

I've taken a bunch of summer clothes off Vinted as they'll never sell now, so they can be donated as most of them are in very good nick, even some still with tags. I found some more wintery things including a couple of Christmas jumpers and tops, so will list those instead.

IndianSummer78 · 19/11/2025 15:17

One cardigan and a hoodie that don't get worn. Total is 4155

LR47 · 19/11/2025 20:28

Gave away a long sleeved top, 5 best tops and a skirt.

total outs 1167

Hello All

Newbie here, and happy to see a thread about decluttering! I'm married to a hoarder and have found it frustrating over the years. Every time I ask him to sort things out and get rid of stuff he hasn't worn or used for the past year, he sort of shuffles things around and maybe moved them from one pile to another but never actually gets rid of anything 😩A couple of years ago whilst he was at work I got rid of THREE large bin bags full of stuff from his wardrobe - he still hasn't mentioned any missing items 😂

Now trying to declutter my beloved Mum's bedroom (she lived with us) after her death and that's proving hard.

My house has no storage really so like the very first post here, I've bought loads of shelves (some to ceiling height) and several of those fabric cube unit things and I've managed to clear most of the 'visible' clutter but it occurred to me earlier that its all still clutter, its just now hidden in the fabric boxes but still needs sorting out! 😭

I'm not in best health and no energy (fibro) and I just don't know how anyone ever gets on top of their clutter. Please tell me there's hope 💐

newmumma90 · 20/11/2025 08:04

@SerenityFalls I'm so sorry to hear about your lovely mum passing away 😔

I'm also new here! My husband and I have always had a lot of "stuff", but now we have a 9 month old baby it's worse than ever! We're too embarrassed to have people round, which makes socialising with other mums tricky because I'm always going to their houses and I feel bad for not returning the hosting duty. I'm only able to find small pockets of time to do anything, but I have to remind myself that every hour is a step in the right direction. This thread has given me hope that every little helps! x

stealthninjamum · 20/11/2025 17:14

@SerenityFalls im sorry for your loss and sorry about your health condition.

I think it is possible to get on top of things but don’t push yourself too hard. I would set a timer for a small period of time and actually stop rather than think you’re feeling good and can carry on. I have been suffering from a bad back - which I know is nothing like your condition- but I do restrict some stuff I do because I don’t want to overdo it.

i had a hoarder exh. He did improve, I think many of us have found once we’ve decluttered our bits the rest of the family often copy. Even my kids declutter (dd1 needs help but she’s adhd)

Dana K white - a slob comes clean - has the no mess declutter solution that might work for you. I listen to her podcast every week while I declutter.

we have two bulky winter coats going (although have ordered one as a replacement) and a lady is picking up a bag of dd2s clothes. I have gone through our Christmas cards, shredded some cards that dd2 designed when she was in year 3 or 4 so after 6 or 7 years she was embarrassed by them. For the first time I have only a small bag of blank Xmas cards, I used to buy them on a whim every November and then never write any. I started writing them a few weeks ago and did more today. This is the most organised I’ve ever been. I’d like them to be sent by the first week of December.

IndianSummer78 · 20/11/2025 19:02

The catalogues built up again so I went through and wrote a wish list down then recycled the lot. 8 gone. Total is 4163

IncessantNameChanger · 20/11/2025 20:20

@SerenityFalls I'm a hoarder, or was, there's always hope. So sorry for your loss x I agree with no more than 15 minutes at a go but every day. Without fail.

I sold six things on Vinted today. Kids Christmas clothes. Went to my storage locker and Brough four bags of toys back home to sort through. Ds has a school fair tomorrow and I want to get rid of some toys to that. Aim is get four boxes down into two boxes tonight! Toys are hard for me but I should be able to do it

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 20/11/2025 20:40

The heaps on the kitchen table are gradually diminishing. Back in action - two anglepoise lamps, one of which would fold down onto my head while the other would suddenly straighten out and point at the ceiling. DH sorted them out and now they stay where they’re put.

Also Mum’s old clock that I had thought was broken was just needing a new battery. That was a nice surprise.

Out the door - Nine Outgrown school shirts have finally gone to adult DD who does Vinted.

DH took a dozen children’s books to drop off at Oxfam’s new bookshop next time he’s passing.

Binned - one dried up
ballpoint and one rather smelly bottle of sanitiser that was way past expiry date.

Just don’t ask about all the stuff that has come into the house from putting the caravan into storage for the winter, or the piles in the garage of six boxes of household bits and pieces from son’s flat move three years ago, or the vast array of tech that DH thought might be useful and brought back from a job that was finishing and was otherwise going to be recycled.

Not sure where I was up posting my outs. But just sorted through three packing boxes of toys fairly quickly in a hour with dh, ds and dd.

Three boxes down to one box now. Still got a few more boxes in storage but I might leave them as need to keep space for the Christmas tree and that goes where the toys used to live.

Need to plan but I feel maybe the rest can wait until the new year? I'm not sure really. However I'd still love to hit my 2025 items out in 2025. It's still very, very close. If not I might add what's left onto 2026! 🤣 718 out by the new year?? Can it be done? 23 items a day is doable surely?

Toys 35, 27 binned,
64, 23 toys donated

50 pens binned. They were nice sparkly pens, felt tips and fine liners but I guess if they’re not used they dry out. It made me quite sad, we have so much craft stuff that we don’t use. I should’ve just given it away 5 years ago and someone else might’ve used them. It means I have an empty container that I might also throw away.

Cleared out some stuff in my Vinted box that hadn't sold to the charity shop. Listed and re listed some more on vinted. Sorted and cleaned 4 kitchen cupboards, which took a lot less time than the first time I decluttered and cleaned them.

Charity shop: blazer, 4 tops, 2 skirts, jumper, garland

Bin / recycling: 3x expired food, conker collection, 3 'useful' boxes

Vinted/sold locally: coat

Total 1865

IncessantNameChanger · 21/11/2025 14:00

I am going to try to do my 30 items a day to hit my 2025 itens out in 2025 target. This will be tricky but not impossible.

Slow week, but when I've had the energy I've done as much as I can.
Emptied half of a kitchen cupboard, few things to recycle, throw away and rediscovered some baking items!
Sorted the bed linen in one of my large storage cupboard, now looking so much tidier 😃
My daughter has cleared out some items from her room, it's been sat upstairs for ages so I've gone through that today and seperated into charity, recycling and possible items to sell.
Emptied a plastic storage box full of mixed crap, and put all of our travel items in there, travel iron, wash bag, travel bottles, plug adaptors etc, this is going to back into my storage cupboard with the linen once I've cleared out some more items.
Put all of the extra medicine into a storage basket, this has cleared one half of the kitchen worktop 🙌

Charity bag
17 x books
13 x soft toys
2 x jigsaw puzzles
1 x magic set
10 x miscellaneous toys
1 x lunchbox
1 x cafetiere

Recycling
1 x large packaging box
2 x damaged storage tins
1 x plastic microwave food cover
7 x damaged kids books
2 x bottles of bucks fizz-years out of date 🫤

Plan for tomorrow is to take the charity bags, I've got 5 x bags sat in the kitchen now

Total 1904
