I'm going to try to list everything this week then spotlight it. Once that's finished I'm donating all but my best few items. I want the space. I have cropped and reloaded a few items. I don't get any visibility any more

If you pm me your Vinted info, I can ‘like’ loads of your items, this might help as I have people who follow me etc, plus algorithms

@FinallyGetRid I set a timer for 30 minute bursts. Then I can work quite quickly knowing it will be over soon

You're amazing! My timer is set for 5 mins, sometimes I aim to get rid of just one item a day - it's painful!

PeonyPatch · 15/10/2025 13:29

I really need a good rummage through my kitchen cupboards and start to bin useless Tupperware that I never use

ememem84 · 15/10/2025 13:55

finished some more beauty products.

sent a bag of new mum/baby gifts to dsis who is about to have e her baby any time now.

finished two pens in the office and a notebook.

BunnyLover7 · 15/10/2025 19:56

Bought a bright pink velvet fold up storage box which DD16 instantly wanted! Will go back to get her another as it was only a tenner. Not sure what I’m going to put in it yet. My necklace holder arrived yesterday so I’m going to put the rest of my pendants etc up tomorrow.

I keep hoping they will offer a half-price spotlight so I can justify it!

Riverswims · 16/10/2025 08:10

well the local FB collector hasn’t showed up yet, 2 days later 🙄 I’ve messaged her again hopefully the bundle will be gone when I return from work

Ooh do Vinted do that? I haven't been on there for long so have never seen an offer on spotlight. Was considering it in next couple of weeks.

Coins today - not a massive amount of bulk but I’m estimating I’ll get maybe £100 - so v profitable

FinallyGetRid · 16/10/2025 12:26

£200 in coins!!!

@FinallyGetRid you’re describing my old room of doom. It took about 8 years but it’s finally done. My problem with decluttering has always been bursts of activity then boredom leading to me not touching it for months. This time I could see I was close and so set a timer for 5 minutes a day so I was consistent with it. I still have sentimental letters and stuff but they’re all neatly tidied away. (I have shredded mountains of paperwork already and got rid of a big bookcase and chest of drawers so I don’t feel bad about the stuff I kept.

Im doing some Lego every day. Today I finished a small Minecraft Lego set. The finished sets are being tidied away in the room of doom’s wardrobe. I think I have about 8 completed sets and lots and lots to finish.

Riverswims · 16/10/2025 19:40

well the bundle still hasn’t been collected so I’ll have to resist it 🤦🏽‍♀️ thought I was doing ok but couldn’t find an important item just now and realized how much there is to do still 😩 I’ll have to set 5 minutes timers tomorrow because I don’t want to be stuck at home when youngest has an inset day

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 17/10/2025 00:07

Paper recycling bin - completed half of sudoku book. Probably won’t manage the difficult ones and that half will get recycled next week.

Broken belt in ragbag.

8 years! Well done, that must feel amazing.
I wish I’d taken some progress pics of my room of doom because even though I’ve got rid of half of the stuff, the room is still an utter mess, it’s hard to feel a sense of achievement, and I refuse to tidy away stuff in a drawer that has been dealt with and deciddd on - I know when it’s in a cupboard it will needlessly stay there for another 5 years.
Some days I just can’t face it - so I do something in another room.
Yesterday iI dealt with a key tray, it has been gathering bits and bobs for years - no need for that to be on display but there is was for at least 10 years. Now it only holds keys and only keys we have a use for! Small steps but still feels good to get even the smallest of them things done.

Realfastfoodie · 17/10/2025 07:04

Wow! That’s wonderful @finallygetrid

stealthninjamum · 17/10/2025 12:36

@FinallyGetRid that sounds like the perfect approach. I don’t use the room of doom so refused to tidy anything away unless I knew what it was so I’d open a box, chuck it on the floor and spend a few weeks/ months tidying it. It was a horrible, boring job but now it’s done I feel loads better. Well done for the key tray.

i just checked my notice board and chucked out a receipt from 2016. I also filed the receipt / guarantee/ manual for my fridge freezer in the box in the study. I’m now wondering if I should throw them out because I bought the fridge in 2021.

Just sold 2 small bags on vinted as a bundle. Will post on Monday.
small bin bag of rubbish & broken stuff from a box living under the bed.
all old holey undies (lucky husband 🤣🫣) packed for when we go away next week & I can just bin them instead of washing & keeping again.
painted my nails for said trip & chucked all the old or instant dry ones that in fact never actually dry.
found a few other little bits under the bed which can go on Vinted for a couple of weeks before my next charity shop trip.

Realfastfoodie · 17/10/2025 17:37

Making a little dent in my vinted again today. Whoever suggested ages ago that I should list things a few at a time and often was absolutely right!

Pigtailsandall · 17/10/2025 21:18

Anyone with too many bags for life, your local charity shop might appreciate them! Took all mine years back and they were thrilled.

I've been decluttering a little... but my weeks are so full now that it's easy to fall off. I emptied out and methodically cleaned a huge, expired tub of paraffin cream my dc was prescribed, and I did wonder at that stage if I should just chuck stuff out more easily.
I had some free time today, and went through the last bits of summer clothes that finally came out of the bottom of the laundry basket

So:
Day 284, tub of medicated cream
Day 285, shredded a filled -up notebook
Day 286, stained school top
Day 287, bundle of kids shorts
Day 288, kids pyjamas, sold
Day 289 (today) pants! Absolutely terrible, uncomfortable pants which i'm looking forward to binning tonight.

LR47 · 17/10/2025 21:52

cleared out kids clothes again. Outs include:
2 pairs of pyjamas
a polo shirt
a belt

sold and posted a game and some pyjamas on Vinted. Gave away some pyjamas to a friend.

total outs:

1088

Wallywobbles · 18/10/2025 06:52

A side effect of Mounjaro for me is an intolerance for clutter and a distinct lack of desire for more stuff. It might make it into my online shopping basket. But no further.
I have slightly got my husband on board by saying I don’t want this to be our kids problem. We are in our mid 50s and 3 out of 4 kids are gone.
I now completely understand why my parents didn’t allow us to keep anything at home and never to be used as a storage dump.
So if helps with the mindset think of your kids being faced with the same task.

Lbet · 18/10/2025 07:04

I have just found this thread and one I really do need.
I have bits of clutter all over my house that I get so overwhelmed with just by looking at it.
There have been times when for instance I have sorted out a draw or cupboard of clutter and the feeling of satisfaction at the end result of how neat it looks is so good. Therefore why can’t I get into doing the rest? I just look at it and feel so overwhelmed by all the clutter that I just find it so off putting to clear it up.

Really hoping this thread will help me.🤞

BunnyLover7 · 18/10/2025 08:06

A very lean few days but determined to get stuck in again! I need to iron a top from TK Maxx that’s too big for me so that I can put it on Marketplace - think I only wore it twice. Potentially sold a ring for £70 & a pair of hold ups for £3. Still haven’t put up my new necklace holders but must get it done as the top of the bedside drawers is disappearing again!

Welcome to the thread @Lbet. It's so hard to keep at it when you have so much to get rid of. I tend to set my timer for 5 mins, then I often get into it and go longer, but even if I don't, 5 mins a day does make a difference. At other times, I tried to get rid of a cubic foot every week - starting small keeps you from being overwhelmed with the task.
I'm not selling anything - in the past, the need to sell things meant I just kept it and guess what, 10 years later, it's not worth anything.
Try to figure out what is stopping you - I also have a time-poor, overly sentimental dh who makes emotional connections with everything - his mother still has his potty, he still has his childhood toys, he probably needs therapy!😂

Pigtailsandall · 18/10/2025 09:45

Morning declutter for day 290 - box of supplements that dh bought and used a few of. BBE 1/24 so those are going.
