Toilet brushes - what am I missing

What is supposed to happen with toilet brushes ? If you use them to clean off skidmarks, surely they just get clogged up immediately with poo? Then sit in their little holder with poo on?

Some mingers put them in the dishwasher

Please tell me this is a joke. This is why you can't eat at everyone's house lol

gamerchick · 30/04/2025 13:50

Tbf you're not actually supposed to use them on fresh skids. They're for cleaning the toilet during toilet cleaning time.

I have a rank traditional one. It's not really used to clean poo so it doesn't get covered in poo. It's used with limescale remover to help remove limescale. I live in a hardware area and it's a battle in one loo.

I've got a Harvey Water softener, they're expensive, but worth every penny. I've probably saved as much as they cost in cleaning products let alone time and effort..

Ginmonkeyagain · 30/04/2025 13:51

Just rinse the brush under the flush of the toilet after it has been used and give it a good soak in disinfectant in a regular basis.

Sadly, no, I'm not joking. I've been here since Justine was in long socks and the threads about it over the years both on toilet brush threads and the what do you put in your dishwasher threads. The things people put them definitely turn your stomach, well definitely turn my stomach!!

ghostyslovesheets · 30/04/2025 13:57

Another who just used toilet paper or bleach - no special gloves either! I don’t tend to wear triple sanitised gloves when I wipe my bum so don’t really see a difference

use a Dettol wipe on the toilet and under the rim when I clean the bathroom

IrisApril · 30/04/2025 13:59

I used to think they were gross, but I got one recently and it’s fine.

Only clean skids with it after already having applied bleach in the toilet. You clean/rinse the brush in the flushing toilet. Bit of bleach in the bottom of the toilet brush holder, so it sits in bleach. There’s no possibly of “poo bits” staying on the brush.

Funkyblues101 · 30/04/2025 13:59

You use them once everything has flushed away, and soon enough that any bits are rinsed off by the flush as well. So they aren't the cleanest things but shouldn't be covered in bit of poo!
(I have seen ones which are, however, uuurgh.)

Generally people wash their hands after using them and keep them out of the way of toddlers.

AlmostSummer25 · 30/04/2025 13:59

Starlight1984 · 30/04/2025 09:30

We use these as I can't stand the thought of a toilet brush! They're fab. Clean the toilet out and then flush the disposable pad.

Don't flush them!! FGS

PEE POO (toilet) PAPER

That is all that should go into the sewage system.

Urgh. For me even cleaning products or a roll of kitchen roll, once it's gone into the bathroom it's dirty, it will never see the kitchen again. Except for it's final journey to the bin!

I even question if I should put the cats dishes into a dishwasher. Maybe just by themselves and then do a cleaning cycle 🤔. I make life so hard for myself lol

gamerchick · 30/04/2025 14:30

No matter how many times we have these threads and I've been here a decent chunk of years we always get someone admitting to flushing those toilet pads and using bleach down the pan..always.

People never learn. It boggles my head.

ghostyslovesheets · 30/04/2025 14:30

@Anxioustealady where do you keep your towels and tooth brushes!

Don't give me anything else to worry about lol. The toilet lid is always closed, I have to hope for the best.

Pop it in the dishwasher with the baby utensils and le crueset mugs

You'd be welcome to live here and I don't say that to many people!!

MsNevermore · 30/04/2025 14:46

Not sure if a similar thing is available in the UK but my toilet brush here in the US is revolutionary 🤷🏻‍♀️😂
It’s a stick that has a little knobby bit on the end. The knobby bit clicks into disposable, spongey/scrubby heads that’s are preloaded with toilet cleaner and activates when it gets wet. I’ll use one to do every toilet in the house and then dispose of the head.

CherryogDog · 30/04/2025 14:54

I tried a Joseph Joseph silicone loo brush but it didn't scrub well under the rim so went back to a bristle type.
Rinse it under the flush.
It's the type where the lid of the pot is on the brush handle so I can balance it on the loo to drip dry, no manky stuff in the pot.
I don't see how that's worse than rubber gloves hanging about drying.

That's so nice to hear 💕. I'm pregnant with my first so I'm even more fastidious about hygiene than before and I think I'm annoying everyone with it 😬

Can you explain.
How are you actually using your bathroom if you find the thought of taking a roll of kitchen paper into the room, using a few sheets and then taking it back to the kitchen horrifying?

Because when you use a cleaner spray bottle to clean a toilet, if you switch hands you're transferring germs onto the bottle. I wouldn't like for that bottle to go into the kitchen and then transfer those germs into food prep areas.

Other people might think that's fine, I don't.

There are germs all over your bathroom and kitchen.

This is why we clean the food preparation area and our hands before preparing food, and why we wash our hands after going to the loo.

It's what I prefer in my own home. You are patronising and rude. I don't care what you do.

Bleach doesn’t remove anything, it just leaches the colour so you can’t see it. And kills marine life.

If You hold the brush end in the jet of water of the flush, or scrub the sides as you flush, anything on the brush is rinsed away. You can use washing up liquid as well.

We use brushes for scrubbing, they scratch stuff off, they don’t hold it.
Think of your toothbrush when you finish. It doesn’t have mouth gunk stuck to it!

We’ve been totally brainwashed by cleaning companies.

Then you have to have the seat up when you flush. Not for me.
