Is there a scented candle out there that actually smells?

Ok, fed up with paying for scented candle after scented candle only to find they give off no radiating gorgeous aromas at all! I love how a smell can transform a space but I’m yet to find anything worth the bother. Looking for some recommendations please you lovely lot! X

I know they are not high end so don't have a fancy perfume style smell but Wickford and Co are mega cheap and smell nice. They sell them in Home Bargains. Worth a try for the small cost.

Sand and Fog from TKMaxx. I’ve used all sorts, from Bath and Body Works, Jo Malone, White Company, Diptique, Yankee, but my go to now is always going to be Sand and Fog. The fragrance really permeates the kitchen even after it’s gone out.

Malin + Goetz are gorgeous, though not cheap.

CraftandGlamour · 24/04/2025 22:55

I recommend Voya. Your home will smell like an upmarket spa.

Zoflora candles are amazing for distributing scent round the house, not fancy enough for gifting but I buy them for myself once the fancy pants Xmas stash is used up.

Asalmonswimmingupstream · 24/04/2025 22:58

I’ve never found scented candles really smell stony enough, I’ve moved over to wax melts and the smell fills the room (smelly pigs are amazing) and lasts several hours after I’ve turned the lamp off.

Instinct1 · 24/04/2025 22:59

I find Zoflora scent crystals in a wax burner have a much stronger smell than any candle. Rhubarb is nice. A tube of crystals is about £3 and lasts ages, plus a cheap tealight per use. You can get them in Home Bargains.

Agree with PP who said Skandinavisk. If you are feeling flush you can't go wrong with Diptyque.

I also love this company. My favourite is the Midwinter scent. https://www.earleyanddaughters.co.uk/shop

Will be checking out wonky candles!

Northern Soul Scents! Now I have only tried their wax melts, but they do scented candles too. Their flavours are gorgeous and the smell really wafts around the house. Also try Made in The Hills. Equally lovely range of scents. 🙂

mondaytosunday · 24/04/2025 23:11

Every candle I’ve had gives off a scent, and I have a crap sense of smell. Maybe your have an even worse one!

PolliFlinders · 24/04/2025 23:12

Lismore Luminations, I have the Black Plum and Rhubarb and it's gorgeous.

Sand and fog available TKMaxx. The best candles I've ever used, and I've tried most!

another vote for sand and fog here

more expensive but Neom 3 wick candles are fabulous. Smell amazing and fill my house with the scent

CandyCane457 · 24/04/2025 23:45

Sand and Fog and DW from TK Maxx are great.

Also try Valentte, I always find theirs smell lovely. Sainsbury’s own brand are also pretty good, I think!

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/04/2025 23:46

Yankees always smell fab but around £25 for a large one

some smells less

the wickford home b are good for £3 and do smell good and can get 8 of those for one Yankee

Antigua from next is lovely

Cardamompelly · 24/04/2025 23:47

Valentte, but they burn a bit quickly

RaffleQueen · 25/04/2025 11:13

Which Sand + Fog scents do people recommend? I give myself a headache sniffing them in TKMaxx but haven’t found one I like.

Nandorsknee · 25/04/2025 11:26

DW Home Gardenia - fills the whole house and everyone comments

DinoLil · 25/04/2025 11:48

Seconding Woodwick!

Tightasaducksarse · 30/04/2025 10:55

Will add St Eval, the diffusers last ages as well as the candles smelling lush.

afaloren · 30/04/2025 12:07

DW Home from Homesense are my absolute favourites, especially the autumn and Christmas scents.

CubanTody · 25/05/2025 17:47

The White Company are always reliably good. I also like Chase & Wonder, they're pricey but the ceramic jars are gorgeous and I keep them to reuse. The only one of there's I've been a bit disappointed with is The Tropical Paradise, which smells a lot like The White Company's Seychelles.

Iliveonabighill · 26/05/2025 14:22

I recently bought a candle from Lush and was very surprised to find it's really really strong smelling- so much so that I put it in my car, unlit (obv!) with the lid off, and was getting very strong scent every time I got in the car. It was called "Honey, I washed the kids".
I agree with other posters that electric diffusers (I bought a cheap one but use the neon oils) or a wax melt throw scent wonderfully and are defs cheaper than candles. I change the water/oil/melt often, or it starts to smell a bit off/musty

shaqueena25 · 23/06/2025 07:34

Bath and body works are fantastic

FortyElephants · 23/06/2025 07:37

Is your sense of smell ok? Because even Lidl scented candles give off a scent, and Yankee candles and similar smell really strong. If you keep trying candles and find they don't smell it is more likely your sense of smell that isn't picking it up.

I can smell all candles when they are unlit and I get my nose right in them. Can't smell anything when they are lit which renders them pointless for me.
