Laundry still drowning?

MyLemonWriter · 15/03/2025 13:18

A few months ago we started to re-wear clothes that weren't dirty. Our laundry halved. We have also been trying to hang items out in the air. Again we are seeing a reduction. Freeing up valuable time and helping the environment.

I don’t believe anyone wears undies two days in a row. So do you mean you shower and put the same pair back on?

yes

Rattai · 20/03/2025 15:34

Why would anyone shower and then put on used underwear??
I can understand wearing underwear under pjs so you can wear the pj bottoms for longer than one night.. No way do I understand not wanting fresh clean pants every day!!!

I have to change everything every day i never re-wear.
What i put on today will be in the wash tonight.
Towels are washed after i use them.
Bedding washed every 2 days.
I got fed up as a kid having to wear clothes a few days a time no clean bedding and bath towels that stank no thank you.

Your user name seems appropriate!

yes

I assume you use a pantry liner in order to do that? Otherwise it would be gross!

Sosoftandfluffycat · 20/03/2025 15:46

Ugh rewearing knickers?!! No! Disgusting. I will wear clothing a couple of days if it's clean, wash towels and bedding once a week but never wear undies more than one day.

OK so given the comments I think we will review what we are doing

I'm all for not washing after every wear but... socks and pants... just no. Because socks get sweaty (and I'm not a sweaty person) and underwear comes into contact with bodily fluids all day.

Something like this might help. You could use one of these one day and then plain knickers the next.

But what’s the point, you are going to have to wash the liner daily so you may as well just wear fresh pants every day.

That's what I'd do!

But one wear of knickers by themselves, plus another wear with a pad on - or even a few with different pads - would mean you could wear the knickers for longer.

I actually can't believe we're even discussing how to wear knickers for more than a day, but that's my suggestion if it's going to happen!

I also can't believe this discussion. Surely the whole family's pants for an entire week doesn't even equate to one load of washing. Anyone, even if OP has explored the liner option, I can imagine many men (or kids) would agree to wearing one in order to eek their undies out for another day.

OP, I feel quite strongly that you should instil the habit of a clean of pants per day in your kids. It's quite a basic level of hygiene IMO.

we don't have a hard and fast rule - if the kids want to change their pants every day thats fine and the washing will still be done. I would say the girls change their pants more often than the boys

Please tell me that you at least turn them inside out.

And if you turn them back to front you'll get a third day's wear.

Rattai · 21/03/2025 11:47

Anything else I could understand but the underwear is just incomprehensible to me. Clean underwear is a must

Wannabegreenfingers · 21/03/2025 11:59

This has to be a wind up. NO ONE wears pants more than once.

Gettingbysomehow · 21/03/2025 12:01

Blondebrownorred · 20/03/2025 09:55

Is this a joke? You rewear pants and knickers?

Turn them inside out they'll be fine 😂

MyLemonWriter · 21/03/2025 13:05

It was actually a serious post as, in our household we reward underwear and socks.

I’m all for not chucking stuff in wash after one wear if still clean, but there’s no way I could contemplate wearing underwear, socks, tights, more than once 🤮

Grim gusset made me lol 😂

Rattai · 21/03/2025 13:20

It's really hard to understand...I mean how much space in a wash load do pants take up??

Not much space but we have hugely reduced the number of loads of laundry we have to do in a week

How old are the kids? I don't think that they can be particularly reliable judges of acceptable filth levels, do you? At what point do you intervene?
