Laundry still drowning?

MyLemonWriter · 15/03/2025 13:18

A few months ago we started to re-wear clothes that weren't dirty. Our laundry halved. We have also been trying to hang items out in the air. Again we are seeing a reduction. Freeing up valuable time and helping the environment.

I have to change everything every day i never re-wear.
What i put on today will be in the wash tonight.
Towels are washed after i use them.
Bedding washed every 2 days.
I got fed up as a kid having to wear clothes a few days a time no clean bedding and bath towels that stank no thank you.

Mancala · 20/03/2025 10:41

I hope you are enjoying your wind up op, you rotter 😆

Have to? Who is making you? Or do you mean you choose to? Nobody has to wash to that extent to avoid stinking. Why did you bath towels sr8nk after more than one us3 anyway? Are you one of those who refuse to use any form of flannel/bath scrunchie and doesn’t think they need to wash their legs and feet? The only reason a towel might stink after a couple of uses is iffy the body it dried was still stinking.
Keep the bodies clean. Clothes, towels and bedclothes them remain cleaner.

Sorry but what are you on about.

Sorry but what are you on about.

Which bit don’t you understand? Seems clear to me.

  1. You don’t have to wash stuff that often, you choose to
  2. If your towels stink after one use there may be a problem with how you use them.
stayathomer · 20/03/2025 12:01

Op there’s levels of everything- honestly underwear doesn’t take up that much space in a wash (and I no longer believe this thread either). I will say we’ve started not washing towels as often and it’s mind blowing!

RedLamb · 20/03/2025 12:03

MyLemonWriter · 19/03/2025 10:13

no including underwear

Are you my middle child?? 🤢

HScully · 20/03/2025 12:14

MyLemonWriter · 20/03/2025 10:39

When they smell?? And Yes I do have kids

Lol mine smell after 1 day, I shower everyday too...

Foolsgold74 · 20/03/2025 12:20

MyLemonWriter · 20/03/2025 10:21

yes we do?!

So previously you only ever worn any and all clothes once and then washed them and now, in a bid to cut down on laundry, you've swung the pendulum the other way and are re-wearing dirty underwear and socks? Make it make sense 🙈

You are also utterly ridiculous. Washing bedding every 2 days is just daft, regardless of your upbringing. Ever heard of a middle ground?

What's mind blowing about it? Have I entered a parallel universe here?

CoolPlayer · 20/03/2025 12:32

clean washed pants every day is a must x

We noticed that many items in the wash basket weren't actually dirty. If something is dirty it gets washed. I see some people feel items are dirty after one wear and that's fair enough

OP posts:
Rattai · 20/03/2025 12:35

But underwear IS dirty after one wear

stayathomer · 20/03/2025 12:44

Foolsgold74

i just used to wash them
too often! My house might indeed be a parallel universe 😉 (used to put energy into the wrong things and so never get house actually clean or non chaotic!)

Ridiculous to you but not to me.
My upbringing was raw and you didnt have to live it so please dont judge it.

If thats what you are comfortable with thats great. Also times have changed and clothing is more disposable than it was a number of years ago

You know full well what my comment means.

  1. i got fed up of stinking towels and re-wearing clothes for a few days as a kid i will not do it now.
  2. I dont have to do anything but i chose to do it you take one word to pick at. Everyone is different i live alone and im childless so i dont have piles of laundry.
TwoWildlings · 20/03/2025 13:05

If our clothes are visibility dirty or smell, they get washed. The kids clothes pretty much get washed after one wear because they are of an age where everything gets mucky! Underwear worn once, then washed.

Bedding and towels get washed once a week.

Thank you its what we are comfortable with and what works for us as individuals that counts.

ComfortingSounds · 20/03/2025 13:11

Blimey. I'm very relaxed about cleanliness - but knickers, tights, and socks are one wear items.

At least turn them inside out. Or get some snap on pads to put with them so you've not got a grim gusset.

A grim gusset - omg brilliant!! 😆🤣 agree that underwear is definitely a one wear item. Socks I would wear again as I long as they were in shoes all day and nothing sticking to them

mumda · 20/03/2025 14:05

LadyGAgain · 15/03/2025 13:20

Can I ask - what do you mean about rewearing clothes that weren't dirty? Were you wearing clothes once and putting them in the wash? Why?

Because people on mumsnet often shower every hour on the hour and replace their clothes too.

LoudPlumDog · 20/03/2025 14:12

I don’t believe anyone wears undies two days in a row. So do you mean you shower and put the same pair back on?

Heidi2018 · 20/03/2025 14:16

Socks and knickers are dirty after one wear, regardless of the cleanliness and wash regime of the wearer. That's just facts! Rotten!
