Fresh February for Flybabies - Feb 25 Flylady thread

February is a nice short month to try something new with housework! If you're looking for something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time, Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.
Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism! Especially not in the shortest month of the year!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications. You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you:

Aw, Wednesdays.are my home day. I've not done too great with my routines so im going to get that notebook started. Today is a day with ds and I'm visiting a friend. My plan is take DD to school, do grocery shopping and lol, visit fried for lunch, collect DD from school, then some evening time for flylady activities.

Little question for you all. My bathroom needs a deep clean. However, I managed to clean the sink today, not feeling 100%. Over the next few days, is it more worthwhile to wipe over what I've cleaned or clean a different section of the bathroom next time, eg bath.

I do mine in sections
Move the shower curtain out of the way and spray the tiles ( DD complains the bathroom smells like a swimming pool !) and scrub with a thin brush .

I have a JML whirly rechargeable brush for the bath and floortiles .
Clean the loo and basin at night .

I bought some ElbowGrease foam once but it didn;t spray so that was a bloody waste .

If I do a deep clean everything comes out , shower curtain in the wash , the bathroom containers (plastic and glass) go in the DW (not the loo brush though )
I pretend I;m Cleaning Like I;m Going To Sell It

I don’t mind doing the thread in March, I have come through a fairly full-on couple of months (DH away a lot, three family birthdays, DMum having a fall, medical tests for me etc) and things have eased off a bit here, but the housework has slipped a bit. You’ve done a great job with the thread this month @DillyDeclutter

DillyDeclutter · 27/02/2025 08:44

Morning, Thursday is errand day and it's my day off, hurrah.

Today's baby step is to plan what's for dinner (tea in my house)
http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-27/

Mission: the website is still glitchy. The Monday and Thursday missions are the same, to spend 15 minutes rehousing anything that doesn't belong in the living room. Other options earlier this week which werent there yesterday include:

  • 27 boogie fling in the living room
  • dusting at ceiling level.

Thanks @ExtraDisorganised that would be fab. Sorry you've had such a tough few months.

I have a really busy time ahead at work and with DC hospital appointments, I need to keep on top of the house otherwise it makes me cross!

22in2022 my preference is to keep on top of what I've already got under control, and add new sections in when I have extra time. If it takes 2 minutes to wipe and 10 minutes to deep clean, I'd rather do the wiping and slightly less deep cleaning. Definitely personal preference though!

DillyDeclutter

Nice to have a choice 😊
It's downstairs house bleurgh today, so I'm choosing dusting at ceiling level as I do that anyway as part of the HB.
Sneaky, eh?

2in2022twoyearson

I wipe round the basins and use loo cleaner + brush as part of my morning routine.
The bath gets a wipe round with spray cleaner after every bath, but has a proper go with Cif cream or similar during the upstairs house bleugh.
The shower gets squeegeed and sprayed with a shower cleaner post shower (just before I get out).
Floors are mopped and mirrors, other surfaces etc wiped over during the HB.
Took a little while to get there though - started with the daily swish and swipe, then gradually added things in.

2in2022twoyearson · 27/02/2025 13:14

@LaMarschallin you sound very good and on top of everything. 😊

I shouldn't have done as I have spare at home but I've bought myself a notebook for my flylady routines, as one of the baby step...is this the control journal. Was getting something else from Tkmax and it had a nice design.

you sound very good and on top of everything. 😊

You're very kind. I'm really not that good and what I described was an ideal week (which I managed this week, thankfully). It does mean that when things go awry I can get things straight again fairly quickly.

I shouldn't have done as I have spare at home but I've bought myself a notebook for my flylady routines

I think that's a really good idea. I always get a bit more inspired if I've got something new or nice to make the home drudgery seem more fun.
My daughter once made me a housecoat (sounds better than "overall" to me) and I fair floated round doing my tasks in it for a while 😄

2in2022twoyearson · 28/02/2025 08:06

Morning, I penciled in my book a morning and evening routine, and it was quite hectic with my mum staying over last night (DH did some extra cleaning as was home) so didn't do all on my routine but made a good start!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/02/2025 10:16

Ta Das

LOL in the WM to go out

LOL sorted out to go in next

DD will sort out the Dumping Corner of her room ( no clue what is lurking there ) I think some more recycling or rediscover something she thought was lost forever...Grin

Make a vegetarian chilli (in the slow cooker then I don;t need to keep an eye on it )

DillyDeclutter · 28/02/2025 10:24

Last day of the month! Friday is clean out your car and purse day. My car isn't too.bad - handbag a disaster.

Baby step 28 is all about routines: http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-28/

Today's mission may or may not be to go on a dust bunny hunt in the living room.

Love a new notebook 2in2022

I find Flyladys full routine quite full on, I don't feel my house gets dirty so quickly. Visitors to my house may beg to differ I suppose . . ..

70s Easter planning already?! Eek! My dc are super excited about pancake day next week.

2in2022twoyearson · 28/02/2025 11:04

I did my own, simpler routine than flylady, she did suggest making it personal, not too ambitious.

The eggs out before January made me feel angry, I, I thought it must be about a month until Easter the other day then I realised it was two months as it's quite late this time. Now I feel is just about an acceptable time to buy eater eggs. Maybe I should eat some before I do lent next week.

I did clean out my bag today, very overdue and only because I'd lost something, but now it is a lot lighter.yay.

2in2022twoyearson · 28/02/2025 11:12

@DillyDeclutter My kids are more excited about world book day next week. DD school is making it into world book week with a visiting poet and poetry competition. She finds out today if she gets into the finals. As lovely as it would be, it would mean I get invited to another assembly and me trying to take it off work.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/02/2025 11:14

@DillyDeclutter

I'm away over Easter and if I get the Easter Eggs now I can put them away (my DC are adults so they're house/cat sitting ) if they choose to eat them early that's their choice though DD will wait till Easter .

If you wait too long then the choice is dismal .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/02/2025 11:17

I saw 2 Junior School children going in today in costume .(Onesies with ears )
Either something going on today or they;ve got the wrong date !

ExtraDisorganised · 28/02/2025 17:22

I’ll get a new thread started this evening. I have been busy today doing a bit of decluttering, lots of hotspots and some gardening as it has been a gorgeous day here. Also <drum roll> got two loads of washing fully dry on the line for the first time in months. It does feel like spring is finally coming.

ExtraDisorganised · 28/02/2025 17:27

Something funny happened today, I had the robovac on and left the front door open as I was taking some clutter out to the car to take to the charity shop. I was putting it in the car boot when I heard DD squeal with laughter, turned in time to see the robovac climb over the front threshold and head off down the drive (ended up in a bush).

Mine hasn't got the sense to run away , it pottles round the bedroom , totally misses things ( DH sock fluff!) then declares "Cleaning Completed" and takes itself back to the docking station.
I run the Shark round and hiss at the RoboVac "See ..this is what you should be doing "

And it gets stuck under furniture <sigh>

I should try it downstairs and leave the door open a bit . I'm sure FemalCat would push it over the step and wave goodbye , she hates it ,

ExtraDisorganised · 28/02/2025 18:33

Yes our cats climb up high to get away from it. I'd never leave it on and go out, it gets up to too much mischief.

ExtraDisorganised · 28/02/2025 19:39

New thread here ready for tomorrow. Huge thanks to @DillyDeclutter for February, I might not have been posting much but I have been lurking.
