Fresh February for Flybabies - Feb 25 Flylady thread

February is a nice short month to try something new with housework! If you're looking for something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time, Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.
Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism! Especially not in the shortest month of the year!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications. You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you:

Chocolate strawberries are delicious Grin

I made chocolate crispy cakes ( 50% milk chocolate 50% plain ) Rice Crispies and Mini M&Ms .
Ben "Ebbers" Ebbrell would wince .

My DS inhales them

HazelNotHungryLC · 15/02/2025 18:28

70 yum 😋! My mum made something similar growing up, but without the m&m's they would take them to a whole new level!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/02/2025 00:07

Mini M&Ms are the bizz
Smarties are too jaded in colour , regular M&Ms have the M logo on them.

At Christmas I;ll buy a couple of bags and take the red/green ones out for decoration

HazelNotHungryLC · 16/02/2025 05:04

Well I wasn't able to make the chocolate covered strawberries after all. There weren't any in the store, and I tried at 2 different stores! 😢
I did end up using up some rhubarb and strawberry pie filling I made in the summer, using my very own home grown rhubarb. I made it in the slow cooker, as a GF cobbler/pie type dessert. It turned out great!

We got in the hot tub a couple of times, it's lovely. We will use it a lot!
ILs came over tonight, even DS had a friend over, who stayed for dinner as well. It was a great evening.

Thanks @DillyDeclutter and hazel.... Its a local holiday. We booked an air bandb (with underfloor heating) so at least we're not time pressured with flights or worrying about illness on planes. Still a risk DD could vomit in the car, but she has a strong immune system and it's been years since she vomited. I feel a bit more alive this morning, couldn't get back to sleep after my ds woke at night (normal for him) as DD was coughing and I am on high alert for vomit (she just has a sore throat). So I'm up, dressed (baby step 2) and had some breakfast. Yesterday I did continue baby step 1, dispite leaving the rest of the kitchen dirty. I felt like I spent the whole day feeding my kids and that took all my energy. I packed up some clothes They were very good but I'm now very bored of tractor ted! Not feeling 100%, breakfast helped my headache but my stomach is swirling. Today we are leaving (hopefully) at 12 pm so the whole house clean planned for this weekend will have to be scaled down. I'm going to:
Unload dishwasher and clean kitchen.
Pack toys food and toiletries.
Do a load of washing. I did one yesterday, but potty training....
Hoover
Not really house related but I don't want to take it on holiday: Submit my essay, due Tuesday I've finished but need to cut down one some words and someone is proof reading it.

Lower priority, if we have time and energy:
Shopping and petrol
Clean bathroom
Tidy bedrooms
Make aubergine dish I'd shopped for before feeling sick. We can take ingredients with us if not.

DillyDeclutter · 16/02/2025 12:06

Afternoon! Sunday is renew your spirit day. No missions at weekends.

Baby step 16: Read some of the daily testimonials or musings on the website. I find these strangely fascinating http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-16/

Time to cook Sunday dinner - with aubergine, my absolute favourite 2in2022!

Also, we are now in Zone 4, master bedroom master bathroom and closet. Not owning the last two, and being in the habit of a quick tidy upstairs before bed, this is one of the easier zones in my house.

I am having a complete Do Nothing Day today .
I have done a LOL and this is either hung up or in the dryer
Washing DD jeans (on their own in case of dye transfer )
Then I'll do her bedding

I have chopped up some vegetables and roasting them for soup later ....smells lovely . I just need to stop DD from pinching bits of veg !

Searchingfordaffodils · 16/02/2025 15:11

@HazelNotHungryLC ds coat is a puffer coat and washing it depuffed it , I managed to tumble dry it and shake it at various intervals and it's rescued it enough , however I will not be washing it again! It caused a full family drama!

I have broke up for half term , we have quite a busy week planned but hoping to get lots of decluttering completed in between the activities!

Tada
🥳 3 hours attempting to return the house to a home , tidied hoovered and dusted the living room, dining and master bedroom. Folded some dry clothes and the tidied bathroom.

I'm having another hour on the housework then relax with my family for the evening , roast dinner and uno extreme !

HazelNotHungryLC · 16/02/2025 15:58

2in2022 did you make it to your airbnb okay? Is everyone feeling a bit better yet? Good thing you weren't flying, I would hate to be dealing with sickness getting on a plane.

You and Dilly with your aubergine, you can keep it 🤮 I have tried it, I just can't do it!

70 what veggies are you roasting for your soup?

Searching it sounds like an overreaction to me re the coat! It sounds like you've also got a lot accomplished today. Enjoy your relaxing time with your family!

I didn't get any laundry done yesterday, so really need to work on some today, even if it's just a couple of loads. I still need to do meal planning for the week & go grocery shopping as well.
It's currently snowing outside, so it's beautiful & white everywhere 😍

2in2022twoyearson · 16/02/2025 19:56

Yes, we all got here lovely and feeling better thanks. Not quite up for eating out we bought some pizzas and found some sheep to watch.

Scourgify · 16/02/2025 23:23

Not doing much more than the basics just now. New office is great for keeping paperwork under control. Replaced Teens’ shoogly computer table with proper desk. Bought lots of convenience food last week and this week - “all fed, none dead” is my motto for the moment.

Found several bits and pieces in the garage that DS needs to decide about. Will send him an email with photos as he’ll respond quickly to that.

Have fallen behind with kitchen, so will be doing a catchup in there as well as the bedroom and bathroom.

Searchingfordaffodils · 17/02/2025 02:33

Tada
🥳 nearly hour in the bathroom, including cleaning shower screen , tiles and bath panel. The only thing I didn't get to was the floor and window. I had enough by this point , my hands and my knee were hurting ( my knee being the reason I am awake at this time of the night / morning)
🥳 a lovely relaxed evening with the family

After I've hopefully had a couple more hours sleep , the plan today is to get a list together for the residential's and shop for anything that is needed . I have both da and dd2 on residential's over the next couple of weeks so I would like to be organised with the kit list over the half term because term time is a little crazy !

I'm envious of your snow hazel , I enjoy snow days when I can go sledging with the kids , I don't enjoy it as much when it becomes a slushy slippy mess though !

DillyDeclutter · 17/02/2025 07:29

Morning! Monday is home bleugh (technically home blessing) day. I do mine across the week though.

Mission for today is to clear and dust your dresser. If this would take more than 15 minutes, set a timer and do just 15 minutes.

Baby step day 17 is to set yourself a bedtime and stick to it! http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-17/

OP posts:
DillyDeclutter · 17/02/2025 07:33

It's not half term here until next week - the dc really need a break though. Its half term in the neighbouring counties so the traffic will be better at least.

I spent last night clearing out my teenage scrapbooks, which were not quite as cringey as I'd expected. Down to one big book rather than a big box now. However I have a huge memory drawer of post- school, pre kids stuff which also needs going through.

Also cleaned behind DD's bed - yuck! (Mainly dust bunnies)

Searchingfordaffodils · 17/02/2025 09:54

Tada
🎉 beds made
🎉 lol washed and hung up on airer
🎉 list made for shopping trip for residential's
🎉 dd2 ready , ds in the bathroom

I'm jumping in the shower once the bathroom is feee , we should be out of the house for just before lunch . A slow paced but productive day....hopefully !

Well done for the scrapbook declutter @DillyDeclutter !

HazelNotHungryLC · 17/02/2025 15:43

2in2022 I'm glad to read you're all feeling better! Enjoy your time away.

Scourgify it sounds like you're making progress with decluttering as well. Just doing the basics is needed sometimes, but I also understand the need to catch up in multiple rooms.
I'm hoping I find some motivation today to do something, anything! I say on the couch all day yesterday only washed 2 LOLs, but was otherwise planted 😳

Searching I need to read your post again in a little bit so I'm motivated to spend a little time in the bathrooms again today. I really need to scrub the grout on the floors and delimescale the shower.
The snow turned into rain, so washed some of it away and made a slushy, slippery mess 😢

Dilly you have reminded me that I still have not got our wedding album out of a box (the box hasn't even been opened since we moved to the US on 2006!). I have been meaning to open our and check it, especially for mould, and actually display the album! Since I have today off, I should plan to at least open the box! I know they're are other pictures in there too, but have no idea what 😳

To dos: <in no particular order>
☕️ meal plan for the week
☕️ grocery shopping
☕️ DS guitar lesson
☕️ DS fundraising for band
☕️ scrub grout on bathroom floors
☕️ delimescale shower
☕️ laundry
☕️ open box with wedding album
☕️ redo nails (manicure & pedicure)

2in2022twoyearson · 18/02/2025 07:02

Morning,

Even though on holiday I have looked at baby steps 3 and 4. I already have something like a control journal for my new years resolutions. I've also read an article about flybabies and not peaking. I've downloaded the flylady app, but couldn't find baby step on it and it had things I've not done yet.

DillyDeclutter · 18/02/2025 08:07

Morning

Today is plan and play day!

The mission for today isn't on the app again so choose something yourself, we are still in the master bedroom. I'm going to de-cobweb the ceiling. We have a lot of spiders and it gets thick, ancient looking Cobwebs very quickly.

Baby step 18 is to read Flyladys 11 commandments http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-18/

OP posts:
DillyDeclutter · 18/02/2025 08:09

2in2022 the app doesn't have baby Steps on. It's not working properly at the moment either. I'm sticking to the website for now (although that's a bit glitchy too at the moment- must be issues Flylady end)

OP posts:
2in2022twoyearson · 18/02/2025 08:45

I downloaded the app because the webpages weren't loading, particularly the homepage

HazelNotHungryLC · 18/02/2025 13:48

Well, other than fundraising with DS & his guitar lesson, I did nothing yesterday 🤦‍♀️

So I may do that stuff today, but who knows 🤷‍♀️

I do have a hair appt and DS has a dentist appt, but those are the only 2 certain things that will happen.
I will also wash my sheets and my mattress protectors, since we're in the master bedroom. I will probably wipe down my ceiling fan that's in the room too.

ExtraDisorganised · 19/02/2025 07:53

Checking in, I have been a bit slack recently. Keeping up with the laundry and basics, but haven’t been doing much zone work and it shows, I definitely need to tackle dusty skirting boards and cobwebs. However I did buy a shoe storage box with compartments for the bottom of my wardrobe yesterday and had a sort out of shoes that were all loose and jumbled in a plastic crate. One pair to throw out because they were falling to pieces.

DillyDeclutter · 19/02/2025 13:21

Wednesday is anti procrastination day. Busy day for me as it's my office day.

Today's mission is to declutter your makeup in the master bathroom.

I can't read baby step 19 because an ad is blocking it! Here's the link http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-19/

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/02/2025 18:36

Our bedding washed/dried/remade

Dry laundry put away

I threw out some sandles that were not wearable and I;ve got some shoes to recycle .
Bought compost for when I gird myself to plant things . Hopefully I can weed the pots to get them ready , it's too cold still to plant seeds .
Plan to do a Costco trip on Friday , not exciting in the least (loo roll , cat food and my own bodyweight in cheddar )

Downstairs loo seriously needs a clean so that;s on the list .
