Fresh February for Flybabies - Feb 25 Flylady thread

February is a nice short month to try something new with housework! If you're looking for something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time, Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.
Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism! Especially not in the shortest month of the year!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications. You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you:

LaMarschallin didyou make it to the hairdressers?
Kind of you to remember, DillyDeclutter Smile
I'm off there this morning and am still havering about having my fringe cut back in or not...

Today's mission is to do a detailed vacuum of the sitting room, getting under all the furniture and to the skirting boards. (I did this at Christmas- do I really need to do it again?!)

I've the opposite problem. My skirting boards certainly need doing but we had a new sofa and an armchair just before Christmas, so all the vigorous vacuuming was done then.
I might have a good go at getting behind the television instead as DH has a complicated music system there as well and it's a real faff to move everything.

Searchingfordaffodils

Morning all from the naughty corner ! I hope you are all well ?

Hope you are too. Didn't realise we had a naughty corner - I certainly should have been in it a couple of weeks ago.
However, it's not just black bags leaving the house etc It took effort to sort out clutter and fill the black bags - it's a bigger job than you make it sound, imo. A definite ta-da!

HazelNotHungryLC · 04/02/2025 14:01

I'm not sure what is going on with Flylady this month, the app is still stuck on zone 5, but it's a new month, so we should be in zone 1! Today would be the last day too.
I thought about that when I read today's mission you put Dilly I thought it sounded very familiar, from last week. Silly Flylady!

I remember my mum having cheap electric at night too, here it doesn't matter, you're billed based on how much you've used, regardless of the time!

I'm planning on having a more productive day today, lots of cleaning needs to happen here in the Hazel household!

HazelNotHungryLC · 04/02/2025 14:05

I just looked on the zones tab in the app and apparently today is the 1st day in the kitchen. Of course no missions are listed on that screen. I always have a hard time figuring out when zone 1 ends and zone 2 begins 😳
I don't know if that helps at all 🤷‍♀️

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/02/2025 18:59

DD has a bag of clothes for charity shop , she's had a declutter of her wardrobe .
That can be dropped off on Friday

DillyDeclutter · 04/02/2025 19:03

Oops Hazel I didn't spot that! Thanks!

Shows you how chaotic things got here last week, I don't think I got through a single mission . . .

OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 04/02/2025 20:24

That's okay Dilly I actually did the detail vacuum of the living room today because I didn't get to it last week!

SingToTheSky · 04/02/2025 21:01

Evening! I didn’t have such a productive day today in terms of housework but I did have two meetings, went food shopping with Cagletini and had a much better bedtime routine with her.

Hope everyone is ready for Wednesday 💪

HazelNotHungryLC · 05/02/2025 03:50

Sing that still sounded like a productive day!

Ta das:
🐶 bathed dogs
🐶 LOLs x7 (including sheets, blankets from couch & towels)
🐶 vacuumed main floor
🐶 detailed vacuuming in living room, including vacuuming the couches
🐶 mopped
🐶 bleached bathrooms
🐶 cleaned mirrors
🐶 cleaned all windows on the outside doors (x3)
🐶 cleaned the actual doors also, microfiber cloths were the answer to cleaning them the whole time! They have been grubby from fingerprints & dogs paws/noses and no amount of scrubbing was working. I was using the wrong material apparently!
🐶 cleaned the fronts of the washer & dryer
🐶 rotated DW
🐶 cleaned out the fridge
🐶 emptied the bins, took the wheelie bin to the street for the morning
🐶 took DS to my work to raise money for band with yet another fundraiser, well he drove so he could get in some practise time
🐶 sat on the couch with my feet up and watched an episode of Hoarders with a cup of herbal tea

I'm waiting for DS to let me know he's ready to be picked up from playing with the pep band at the basketball game, although I'm really wishing I could just get ready for bed!

To dos:
🫖 get my lunch ready for tomorrow
🫖 get my clothes out ready for tomorrow
🫖 shower
🫖 bedtime skincare
🫖 fall into bed!

Baby Steps for today https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-5/

I can't find the daily mission - both the app and the website are stuck in zone 5 for me! Can anyone else see it?

Wednesday is anti procrastination day. Do a task that you've been putting off!

Alas Wednesday is also my office day and it's 90 mins each way so not usually very productive here. Better get going . . .

Same here. Says the daily mission for is to get rid of hidden clutter in zone 5..? Bizarre.

So far this week for flying is going poorly, but generic household tasks are okay. We're nearing the end of the re-laundry debacle, and baby parsnip has something vaguely resembling reliable sleep and nap patterns for now. So this week there's been laundry and gardening and a new morning routine (which is much longer than the previous one!).

HazelNotHungryLC · 05/02/2025 13:27

I have the same on my app.
There was a comment yesterday though that said Marla from Flylady is in the area where there were hurricanes, she may be affected by that/ have no internet/ power etc.

On the zones tab on the app there are things listed you can do in zone 2. Things like clean out the fridge, wipe down fronts of cabinets. I would say work your way through them this week, picking one thing a day 🤷‍♀️

LaMarschallin · 05/02/2025 13:55

I would say work your way through them this week, picking one thing a day 🤷‍♀️

That makes sense.
For me, today was taking everything down from the kitchen windowsill and cleaning the windows inside and out and also wiping down and cleaning the kitchen door.

DillyDeclutter · 05/02/2025 18:15

I can't think for myself, not on a Wednesday anyway! Hopefully flylady and Co are all okay.

The mission turned up on the website, it's to clear out all the things in the fridge that are past their best or you will never use. (Paraphrasing as I read it earlier)

Today in my lunch break I sent a couple of emails I've been putting off, so that's my anti procrastination.

Now I have Mt Everest of washing to sort out (four loads!)

OP posts:
DillyDeclutter · 06/02/2025 07:20

Morning! Thursday is errand day!

We are still in the kitchen. The mission for today is: declutter your plastic wraps and foil drawers, cabinets or shelves. We all have a spot that we keep these items and there is always one empty box in there and some lone baggies that are trying to escape. Toss the empty boxes, the rolls of plastic wraps that are too stuck together to work, and those strays that you are not sure if you should use them or not.

Morning all, the Flylady website does seem to glitch at times, it hasn’t change much over the years so maybe not the most modern tech behind it. Still a good system though.

I have a Mount Washmore to sort out too, usually we keep fairly on top of it but somehow a few ikea bags of clean washing have been hanging around in our bedroom for the last week or so, going to tackle those today, plus a few errands. First of all I need to make a list. It is a chilly, frosty morning here but the sun is shining.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/02/2025 09:56

I am a Newbie this year , IIRC it is Car&Handbag Day .
My car is screaming at me to wash it ...but it will freeze into a little cube of ice so I;m going to tidy inside only .

DillyDeclutter · 07/02/2025 09:56

Morning! Friday is declutter your car and purse day, and date night.

Today's mission is to clean out under your sink.

Here is baby step7 - carrying on everything so far and adding in a bedtime routine. https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-7

I got through my washing yesterday, phew.

Ta Da

bag of clothes to Charity Shop

vacuumed upstairs and stair carpet ( I need to shampoo the stairs but I need to get the George 3-in-1 out for that which means someone has to hold it so it doesn't fall down the stairs and kill me . The George has That Face like the Henry . Evil smirkey little critters )

Onto my 2nd LOL but it is tipping down here so it's in the dryer /on the heated rail.

Booked appointment

Making some Triple Cooked Chips now . Peeled chopped and in water Stage 1.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/02/2025 13:27

Under the sink is ok , and the Utility - I de cluttered recently and cleaned last week .

Though I'm casting a judgey eye over the TV stand which is a dust magnet

Scourgify · 07/02/2025 22:22

DH was able to fit a table top into the understairs cupboard today to give me a tiny, and long-awaited, office and computer desk.

Yesterday was lovely and sunny and I chopped back some rampant buddleia that had never lost its leaves in the autumn.

Another small coffee table is now surplus to requirements. It has, of course, immediately fallen victim to the Flat Surface Syndrome, and has a couple of Transformers and a light sabre on it. Not for long, as DH intends taking it apart for its useful legs.

DillyDeclutter · 08/02/2025 08:26

Morning! Saturday is family fun day, no missions. We are going swimming and to a party!

Baby step 8 is to start building your control journal: http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-8/

scourgify our kitchen table is the worst for flat surface syndrome. Your cupboard conversion sounds fab!

I finally emptied my washing baskets but today is my day for sheets so they will be full again by bedtime!

Parsnip it's so nice as they get older and you're able to get more things done. Be prepared though, the little ones like to change up their routines every couple of months or so, and then you add in teething! Great job of taking advantage of the routine right now, every little bit does help!

70 your George made me giggle!

Scourgify your cupboard office sounds perfect! I've seen a few on Pinterest. I would love to downsize our desk, DH has attachments to some things and can't let them go though! The computer is also ancient (doesn't even get turned on anymore, usually) and really just needs to go too.

Dilly well done on getting on top of your washing! It's such a neverending job.

ED did you manage to get on top of your Mt Washmore as well?

Laundry is in store for me today too.
Today is the day we are going to take down our Jack. It's long overdo, but needs all 3 of us to get him down. We had some awful winds this week and they've attacked him like no other. I'm also taking down the other Christmas lights. It's just sad that everything will be so dark 😞

I was so tired last night, I was in bed and asleep by 9:45pm! I woke up before 7am today, feeling well rested. This week was a rough week at work. We were all feeling it!
We have a dinner to go to tonight so I won't even have to cook!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/02/2025 18:09

DH decluttered the coffee table and said "Are your knees okay to clean the shelf" ?
DH poor knees -he could do himself a mischief if he crouched .

LOL on now , (my work uniform)
LOL done this morning ( delicates )

Going to clean the downstairs loo later so the floor gets a chance to dry overnight ( steamer ) and I;ve volunteered DS to clean the skirting boards .

DillyDeclutter · 09/02/2025 08:01

Morning! Sunday is renew your spirit day. No missions at the weekend. It's children's church week for us.

Baby step 8 is to add a 5 minute declutter to your Morning routine: http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-9/

I am going to watch the linked decluttering video- I'm not sure she and I are using the word to mean the same thing.
