How many sheets do we need! I have way too many

Any advice?

I am a terrible decluttered as I'm indecisive and get overwhelmed/distracted in equal proportions.

Also how many towels! I keep Minging ones for the floor for washing machine filter clearing and grim jobs.

How many pillow cases?

🙏🙏🙏

We have two sets of bedding for each bed. They are washed and changed every Sunday.

We have two towels per person and they are changed/washed at the same rate as the bedding.

Much respect to you for that - no spares! So awesome of you

There’s six of us and every Christmas we have a lot of visitors plus different sized beds so we have a lot, also tons of pillow cases but ds9 gets a lot of nosebleeds. I only finally tidied the storage closet this weekend so I’d say decluttering wise in my opinion it’s not about throwing them out, it’s about keeping them as tidy as possible (depending on how many in your house etc of course!!)

DrFoxtrot · 19/03/2024 13:18

To me, having two sets for each bed counts as having a spare! I tend to wash and dry my sheets and put them back on the same day.

thenightsky · 19/03/2024 13:19

I've got loads and loads of fitted sheets that don't fit any bed in the house. I buy them and they do fit. Then I wash them and they don't fit.

Kalevala · 19/03/2024 13:23

Two full sets per bed. Two sets of towels per person.

Marblessolveeverything · 19/03/2024 13:25

I had a declutter last year afti stopped hosting students. I went from about thirty for three beds.

Now I have four good sets each, two more autumn, winter and two spring summer ones and Xmas ones in attic.

Kept just matching pillowcases and sent spare into school for crafts etc. think they became sacks for races .

Same. I use the other set if the current one hasn't dried. I have a preferred 'winter' and 'summer' set but switch where needed.

This! Plus I decided to only have white bedding with 2 king size and 2 double beds! Absolute nightmare resulting in me trying to squeeze a king duvet into a pristine white double cover at least once a week Easter Blush

Me too. I bought some of these with "King Size" on them and sewed them into the king size sheets and duvet covers. DP laughed at me but it was a fucking life-saver.

OP: All white bed linen so no bollocks of matching.
Spare bed = One mattress protector, two sheets, two duvet covers.

Master bed = Two mattresses protectors, four sheets, four duvet covers. The dog sleeps in the master bed so its changed more regularly.

I have about 25 pillowcases.

UraniumArthur · 19/03/2024 13:40

If this house is anything to go by, you need 8 sheets to be used as bedding and about 100 waiting to be used as dust sheets.... Grin

Same here. 2 sets is really all you need. When DC were small I did have an extra set that could go on single beds in case any DC unwell.

gingercat02 · 19/03/2024 13:44

Two of everything, except hand towels, 3 of them.
Washed weekly, so one in use, 1 clean and ready for use.
Hand towels and tea towels, dishcloths get changed as needed, so we need more than 1 spare

I have a very small house now and grew up surrounded by clutter. I have probably gone too far the other way with my organisation and labelling 😅

Oh no I couldn't do it to my poor DH. He really struggled when DC lived at home and there were single bed sheets in the airing cupboard to confuse him. He still doesn't understand about cotton pillow protectors going under the pillow case.

Theoldwoman · 19/03/2024 13:47

we have 3 queen size beds in our home, 4 adults.

One set of sheets for each bed, plus one spare set in cupboard if needed.

Two bath towels each person.

Two bath mats.

6 hand towels.

8 Face cloths.

6 beach towels.

10 tea towels.

16 pillowcases ( 12 on beds, 4 spare)

tealandteal · 19/03/2024 13:51

We have 3 sets for our bed, 2 sets for the sore bed and 2 sets for the children’s bed plus some extra pillowcases and mattress protectors as these take longer to dry. Not sure how many good towels, but have 3 dog towels, they can be shoved under any leaking pipes etc as needed.

That is having a spare!

One on, one in the wash. Different colour bedding for each bedroom so there is no confusion (white, cream, duck egg, grey).

Ditto different colour socks for each child.

Two big towels each, two bath mats per bathroom, four hand towels per bathroom - again with a “One on, one in the wash” system.

PandaChopChop · 19/03/2024 13:52

2 full sets per bed. (Pillowcases, duvet and sheet).
I do have 3 because I love my bed (now that there is no man in it) and it's my personal treat 😆 I have sheets that match each cover so there's no faff fighting with which sheet matches with which IYSWIM.

AuntieMarys · 19/03/2024 13:54

3 beds in the house, all different sizes...super king, king, double. Two bedding sets for super king, just one for the others as they are for visitors.

Halfwayuporhalfwaydown · 19/03/2024 13:56

All white bedding here so any sheet, cover or pillowcase can go on any bed. Two sets per bed plus a spare and maybe 4 spare pillowcases.

mathanxiety · 19/03/2024 13:58

One set of bedding per bed. Bedding washed and dried and replaced on the bed once a week. The exception is two pillowslips per bed. I like a fresh pillowslip.

Two towels per person (this meant twelve towels for several years).

Also, three hand towels, total. These are washed weekly.

I have a dozen microfibre cloths for dirty jobs like the washing machine filter, mopping spills, etc. and two old, ratty towels lining Dcat's baskets.

rainbowsparkle28 · 19/03/2024 13:59

I would say 2-3 full sets of bedding for each bed and then 2 x sets of towels for each person. Then can have one washing/drying and the other being used without any issues. By sets of towels I mean as in if use hair towel and body towel then will need 2 x sets of these if that makes sense. Wash them once per week here unless otherwise soiled / clearly dirty etc.

mathanxiety · 19/03/2024 13:59

I have four bath mats - they're 'hotel style' with no rubber backing, quite think, and they take a while to dry. I like to change out bathmats frequently as we have only one bathroom.

Tiddlywinks63 · 19/03/2024 14:02

Oh dear….. I have accumulated at least 15 king size duvet sets and 8 double fitted sheets, which is ridiculous but several are years old. I really need to have a clear out don’t I as only two of us and two double beds (I prefer a larger duvet)
12 bath towels and 12 hand towels for one bathroom 😵‍💫
