How many sheets do we need! I have way too many

Any advice?

I am a terrible decluttered as I'm indecisive and get overwhelmed/distracted in equal proportions.

Also how many towels! I keep Minging ones for the floor for washing machine filter clearing and grim jobs.

How many pillow cases?

🙏🙏🙏

1 x king and 2 x queen beds in our house. Each bed has 2 sets and that's it. Have about 8 bath towels & 8 hand towels. I love the freedom that comes with not having much stuff!

SpringOfContentment · 19/03/2024 14:11

2 full sets per bed.
Plus 2 single sets that can be used on the 2 airbeds we very occasionally use.
2 towels per person.
Plus a microfiber towel each for holidays, plus probably 4 more towels - 2 decent, and 2 on their last legs. And a swimming-towel-robe for me.
Loads of hand towels for the kitchen.

Allshallbewell2021 · 19/03/2024 14:32

You are all respected by me. I have just decluttered all the Minging sheets and pillow cases

3 sets per bed but I have young children who are liable to vomit on theirs.

SpringOfContentment · 19/03/2024 14:37

How much have you sent for textile recycling @Allshallbewell2021? And how many sets are left?

idontlikealdi · 19/03/2024 14:37

2 sets per bed, actually 3 if you count the christmas ones.

Two bath sheets, two smaller towels each plus a drawer full of crap / old towels that are for the dog.

Edited to add swimming towels and beach towels, two of those each and DDs and I have microfibre towels for hair.

And about 30 dishtowels if we are including those - I use them as reusable cloths in place of kitchen roll.

Caspianberg · 19/03/2024 14:39

2 per bed. One on, and one spare.

I have a few old towels and cut up old sheets in cellar for diy use (covers, spills)

SpringSprungALeak · 19/03/2024 14:39

@Allshallbewell2021

sorry I haven't read the full thread, but my suggestion is to decide how much space you're willing to store bedding in your house & get rid of anything that doesn't fit in the drawer/on the shelf dedicated to linen or towels. You could have a separate shelf container for 'old towels'

Rosesanddaisies1 · 19/03/2024 14:40

I have two king sets for our bed, and two double sets for the spare bed, nothing else! 2 towels each, 2 guest towels, about 4 hand towels and 2 beach towels.

Halfwayuporhalfwaydown · 19/03/2024 13:56

All white bedding here so any sheet, cover or pillowcase can go on any bed. Two sets per bed plus a spare and maybe 4 spare pillowcases.

I'd be endlessly washing! I have sheets that hide cat footprints.

ohthejoys21 · 19/03/2024 15:28

2 x bed sheets changed twice a week and 3 x bath sheets changed 3 x per week. Kids's sheets once a week.

Allshallbewell2021 · 19/03/2024 13:13

Much respect to you for that - no spares! So awesome of you

Having 2 sets means there ARE spares though!

springof - I have got rid of one double duvet cover, about six double sheets, about 4 single duvet covers and several nasty pillowcases. I feel amazing.
But I have kept more single duvet covers as I'm not sure which to keep yet 🤔. But the airing cupboard is no longer a risky place to approach with everything stuffed in and all of unknown size!

Soontobe60 I kept more spares for when people come to stay I think but also because I tend to clutter because I'm deeply indecisive about stuff. But I'm so happy when I get clear of things.
My dear MIL has been decluttering into our home for years - which I've almost always been too polite to prevent but I am getting better now.

2 sets each for ds's. 3 for us. Thats more than enough.

Oblomov24 · 19/03/2024 17:38

Re bedding, I have a couple of very light thin sheets for the summer, 2 big thick fleecy sheets and duvet cover for the winter. Do I actually have 4.

Theoldwoman · 19/03/2024 21:47

Well done OP! Just keep what you truly need.

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 19/03/2024 21:53

Only me.. l have four sheets but 11 duvet covers.. l just can't resist a lovely new duvet cover when l see a design and think it would look lovely with my bedroom colours.
I change twice a week.
I have 12 bath sheets l use fresh every day.

Allshallbewell2021 · 19/03/2024 23:57

Putonyourredshoesanddance

I have 5 sets for my bed (recently upgraded to a king) and probably 7/8 sets for the double guest (I've had a double bed for ages so the number of sets have accumulated).

I change every 2weeks but having extra sets and rotating them mean they last longer. I except them to last at least 5/6 years

pillow cases I change every week. and have probably 3 more pairs on top of the ones from sets. almost all my bedding is white cotton with very subtle differences, so it works our

Bath towels I wash after every use and hand towels probably every week. face towels washed after every use. there is only me in the house, so it's not too bad. I have 5 towels, 3 hand towels and 8 face towels.

IloveAslan · 20/03/2024 03:54

I have six sets of sheets (top and bottom), twelve pillowcases, and nine towels - for one person 😅 (and I don't use a new towel each day, more like each week)

Oh, just remembered, I think I have another couple of spare towels somewhere.

Kalevala · 19/03/2024 15:17

I'd be endlessly washing! I have sheets that hide cat footprints.

I use white bedding in summer, and I used to have four cats!

MMNB · 20/03/2024 04:06

We probably have 4 or 5 sets of bedding for each bed. Loads of pillowcases as we all like too many pillows.

Towels? Lots! They get used by our animals and disappear as well, lost at uni and kids friends houses, so I overcompensate by always buying more.

Allshallbewell2021 · 20/03/2024 09:04

In a moment of total madness I bought a linen duvet cover. It weighs a ton and looks terrible - I imagine it needs ironing..... what was I thinking?

But I haven't ditched it in the airing cupboard purge because it was quite expensive 🤦‍♀️
