How often do you mop your kitchen floors?

Having this conversation with a couple of friends today.

I mop my floor every day. I have a teeny tiny kitchen though and white floor tiles which are the bane of my life. It takes well under a minute.

Friend 1 has a very large open plan kitchen and pale terracotta tiles. It;s mopped when her cleaner comes once a week.

Friend 2 thinks she might mop every couple of weeks at most. She has dark tiles and a large kitchen and (perhaps most importantly) no muddy dogs!

There is no point to my question. Just a random musing that I am interested in! (It's a slow news day Chez Lobelia).

My husband and I take turns and mop the kitchen every day after cleaning up from dinner. It only takes a couple of minutes. We both like the floors to be clean.

DillDanding · 19/02/2024 14:39

Daily. We have a dog.

Beginningless · 19/02/2024 14:41

Weekly. Large kitchen, dark tiles. Also dog. It could be cleaner but since we don’t eat off it I have other priorities!

StephanieSuperpowers · 19/02/2024 14:41

A couple of times a week. We have tiles and no pets. I got matt rather than shiny tiles so they wouldn't look in need of a clean every twenty minutes.

I brush/hoover mine multiple times a day anytime there's crumbs. I mop a couple of times a week minimum. When the kids were little and launching food around it was every day. Gray slate tiles. We don't wear shoes in the house.

coodawoodashooda · 19/02/2024 14:42

Once a week.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 19/02/2024 14:42

Whenever it needs it, maybe once a week? Depends if cat has muddy paws

Bloomingdaffs · 19/02/2024 14:42

Every couple of weeks. Dark tiles that don't really show the muck.

Devastatedandblindsided · 19/02/2024 14:44

Every week.

pinkspeakers · 19/02/2024 14:44

The cleaners do it every other week. I will give it a hoover in between if it needs it. Maybe a spot clean once in a while. Pretty much unheard of for to mop the whole floor. Cleaners have missed their day this week so it will be 4 weeks.

When we had small kids I would need to wipe/mop under kitchen table regularly. I don't think our kitchen needs mopping much any more.

MidnightMeltdown · 19/02/2024 14:46

Once a week. If I'm busy I may skip a week. Haven't died yet 🤷🏻‍♀️

Daily seems pretty extreme to me

Aquamarine1029 · 19/02/2024 14:47

To add to my comment above, we used to have tile in our kitchen and I used my steam mop which I absolutely loved. We have redone our kitchen this past year and now have LVP for the floors. I can't use my steam mop anymore and I'm rather gutted about that, honestly. I didn't think about that when we chose our flooring.

Glittering1 · 19/02/2024 14:49

Everyday.

Wictc · 19/02/2024 14:50

Once a week when the cleaner comes. I might run the robohoover/mop if it’s dirty, but we are pretty tidy, we wear slippers in the house and clean any spills as we go so it doesn’t really get that dirty.

Great idea. Sadly when we redid the kitchen we kept the old tiles which are indeed shiny. Even at the time I was not happy about it but DH thinks darker tiles would make it look even smaller and he has a very good point. I'd not thought about suggesting changing to matt. Mind you- we may (may) be extending the kitchen at some point.... it will make sense then).

Every two days. I’m a sahm and have small children and we eat in their 3 times a day. Well the kids have snacks too, so maybe 5 times a day!

InTheRainOnATrain · 19/02/2024 14:52

I never mop, the floors get mopped every day- we have an irobot mop that does it’s thing after the roomba goes round! If I had to do it then it would be weekly!

MaryActsLikeSheDontCare · 19/02/2024 14:53

I sweep and Hoover multiple times every day, but only mop maybe twice a week. Cream/white tiles.

mondaytosunday · 19/02/2024 14:55

I have two dogs and two cats and wooden floors and one of those indoor/outdoor rugs that covers most of the kitchen floor. I vacuum that but don't think I've mopped underneath the rug more than once a year. I've replaced the rug a couple times.

BreakfastAtMimis · 19/02/2024 14:58

I have carpet tiles in my kitchen (not through choice, they came with the house and we need to solve some kitchen layout issues before we replace the flooring) so, never. Grin

Ponderingwindow · 19/02/2024 14:59

Now that I have a robot to do the task, daily.

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/02/2024 15:01

Once a week unless I spill something sticky over it. Yesterday the cat walked across it whilst I was actually mopping it to get to the catflap, went out to do his business and came in again with muddy paws.

Aquamarine1029 · 19/02/2024 15:02

For those of you that have a mopping robot, do they work well? We have a eufy which we will never be without, but it only vacuums.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 19/02/2024 15:04

I have matt terracotta tiles. I sweep every day but mop..umm...maybe once every couple of weeks? Maybe even less? I have a dog who goes out across fields at least twice a day and I got so sick of mopping only to have it all ruined seconds later by a filthy dog, I thought sod it, I'll do it when someone's coming round and not otherwise!

JellyfishandShells · 19/02/2024 15:05

Every week or maybe two. Gets swept or vacuumed most days , obvious spills get cleaned up straight away. Very tough mid coloured matt cushioned vinyl. No pets or children and it’s not an eat-in kitchen.
