How often do you mop your kitchen floors?

Having this conversation with a couple of friends today.

I mop my floor every day. I have a teeny tiny kitchen though and white floor tiles which are the bane of my life. It takes well under a minute.

Friend 1 has a very large open plan kitchen and pale terracotta tiles. It;s mopped when her cleaner comes once a week.

Friend 2 thinks she might mop every couple of weeks at most. She has dark tiles and a large kitchen and (perhaps most importantly) no muddy dogs!

There is no point to my question. Just a random musing that I am interested in! (It's a slow news day Chez Lobelia).

Am I a dirty bugger? Probably once a quarter?

We don't wear shoes in the house, have no pets and only adults in the house 🧹

I do my kitchen floor a few times a week or as needed after dinner when I am cleaning up the kitchen after dinner. I will otherwise spot clean as I go along.

shouldlogoff · 19/02/2024 15:09

@rainydaysandwednesdays Its also just two adults here, no shoes in doors and no pets. I don't think my floors are dirty but there is the odd mark from cooking as I do cook from scratch every day, make my own bread most days so while sweeping gets most of it I prefer to mop often as well as bacteria still builds up even if you don't see it.

rainydaysandwednesdays · 19/02/2024 15:18

@shouldlogoff yeah true. You can't really see it on this floor. It gets hoovered every couple of days or so and any obvious spills cleaned. The kitchen is new and I always think new kitchens stay cleaner. I used to mop every other day in my old house as it felt grotty but this one doesn't seem to.

Mrs Hinch will be spinning in her Utility 😬🧹

shouldlogoff · 19/02/2024 16:05

@rainydaysandwednesdays That she would 😂

Ultimately its nobody else's business how often you mop your floor, it looks fine to me.

TheDowagerDoughnut · 19/02/2024 16:07

Whenever the layers of muddy paw prints get too much.

Though I do send the (only partially effective) robotic mop around every couple of days. Nothing makes a floor clean like the same 2 x 4 inch square of fabric being used to wipe increasingly dirty water everywhere.

App13 · 19/02/2024 16:14

I have a massive kitchen dinner (45m2 I think) with hard floors , and it gets hoovered every other day by a robot, it gets a boiling hot water mop once a month and a robot mop every three days .we have no shoes in the house and seldom spills really.

And it always looks spotless

decionsdecisions62 · 19/02/2024 16:15

About twice a week. I don't have the kind of job to spend all day cleaning!

yikesanotherbooboo · 19/02/2024 16:25

Roughly once a week but when I had small children I did it daily .

TubeScreamer · 19/02/2024 16:35

couple of times a week? More in muddy paw season, less in dry weather.

PutMyFootIn · 19/02/2024 16:35

Every day, with a robot mop.

Hummusandstuff · 19/02/2024 16:39

Hmm. Once a month ish. Looks fine to me so I ignore it for a long time.
Beige rough tiles with dark grouting.
I hate my floor though.

muddyford · 19/02/2024 16:42

Once a month. Grey tiles with black grout. If I spill something everywhere I'll do it between times.

Devastatedandblindsided · 19/02/2024 16:45

For those with robot mops,
what would you recommend?

Mrsjayy · 19/02/2024 16:47

daily I have to atm we have a dog and my back garden is always wet in the winter it's a night mare my kitchen isn't huge thankfully.

PutMyFootIn · 19/02/2024 16:47

I've had a few over the years. Expensive isn't necessarily the best.

I would just work out your budget/what you want to spend, and then look for reviews in that price range.

Some people get combined vacuum cleaners/mops but I like to keep them separate so I can use one upstairs and one downstairs It just depends what yu want to spend really.

I do love my robot cleaners though, the floors look beautiful because they're hoovered and mopped every day.

Killerqueenie · 19/02/2024 16:47

Once a week/once a fortnight. I sweep multiple times a day and only mop when it looks grubby. I wipe up spills daily with having 2 kids but not a full blown mop.

Mrsjayy · 19/02/2024 16:49

my dog would just chase a robomop they sound great though.

CormorantStrikesBack · 19/02/2024 16:51

Twice a year. Looks fine

HarrietStyles · 19/02/2024 16:53

In our old house we had light shiny tiles, showed up every speck of dust so I mopped every day.

Our house now has wooden floors that are much more forgiving, so I mop once a week.

Or I occasionally do the floor wipes under my slippers dance.

WarriorN · 19/02/2024 16:56

No where near enough, I aim for weekly but it's more like fortnightly. Open plan downstairs, wooden floor.

I wash or wipe the dog's paws though as she licks them clean and is forever picking up bugs if I don't!

She's a dog who avoids mud but the grass has been waterlogged everywhere for months.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 19/02/2024 16:57

Me? Maybe twice a year.

My cleaner? Once a week.

Spills or obvious grot patches are spot cleaned as required. Fairly large kitchen (about 5.5m x 7m).

bakewellbride · 19/02/2024 16:58

Once every 3 weeks.

I do love the youtube postings of the cat in a shark costume sitting on a robovac.
