So the last thread got filled up and I think I seem to have taken it on myself to start a new one every time, lol! I hope everyone finds us because I'm too lazy to tag everyone, but here's few who spring to mind. It also doesn't let me add some people, for some reason

@realfastfoodie
@IndianSummer78
@stealthninjamum
@cornedbeef451
@EllieQ
@Gassylady
@IncessantNameChanger

@nordicmom
@Vinorosso74

Now it's the last push until the holidays to get it all out and done (before new cr*p comes in)

Welcome back @freshstartfor2024 . The ‘one a day’ threads evolved into these as we’re all doing our own thing.

i think you’re doing a really good job, I always find it hard to get stuff out of the house too.

With your rags could you leave them by the front door so you don’t forget to take them? I tend to leave things in the car but obviously that’s not possible for you.

I hope having you’re having a productive time putting them a on for sale, I wondered if it would help to group things together. You can either sell in bundles or put a comment ‘see my other posts for similar items’. I have never sold on eBay before but have bought loads and always click on the other items by a seller if it’s something I’m interested in.

Yesterday / today’s job was to try to work out how to get in the garage as I couldn’t get my key to work a few weeks ago. Anyway I started by sorting through keys. I have thrown 3 away and still have millions so I have tested some of them. I’m going to put them in small labelled bags when I have finished testing them and I’ll keep them at the back of my wardrobe.

So my garage is quite clear, I could easily fit one car in - and two if I chucked some things out. It does have things like oils and chemicals which being to exh. I think I’ll just take them to the dump at some point. So today I swept out some leaves that get blown in under the door, and I found some old cardboard to go. There are also two car batteries. I have found a scrap metal company who will take them.

That's a good idea about the rags, I think I will put them by the front door! I've got to go into town tomorrow and Wednesday, so I'll try and take a bag each of those days. If they're too bulky I'll just take a portion of each bag, in a smaller bag.

I managed to list two items on Marketplace, but I think I will try and push myself to keep going all evening with it. I have so much stuff which I would love to get rid of. It will feel amazing when it's done. Well done with your keys! And with the exh stuff, it always feels so much better when you get other people's things out of your house.

Shoes today on Toss - 1 pair out (more to be worn this week to see if they are still viable), plus 4 other random things out that had ended up in my shoe storage area

Pigtailsandall · 11/02/2024 17:16

I finally took my unsold vinted items to the charity shop; that was 12 items. I sadly had to bin a pair of shoes where the fake leather had cracked. A reminder to use things, not just store them...also took all the batteries from the house to be recycled, something I've been meaning to do ages. Will count the bundle as one thing.

Also out in the weekly clean:
Dead lavender from the garden
Packet of expired LFTs
A mask
Small notebook
Broken cat toy
Broken hanger

Total is 239

Just tried to tackle the ironing. In doing so I’ve got rid of 8 shirts. Which I don’t wear or have similar ones. So that’s all good. Less laundry. Less ironing. Hoorah.

daffodil2023 · 11/02/2024 19:36

Made a big dent in the kitchen this weekend - got 2 lampshades up that had been floating around the house forever and they look great so pleased with that. Went through a letter tray and 2 small boxes of tut including random keys, matchboxes etc etc. I've now got one final surface to clear this week in the kitchen so I'm really ecstatic about that.

Also Toss gave me shoes so got rid of 5 pairs. Need to remember to clean all the drawers out this week, and get some of the regularly worn pairs in the washing machine too. Also took 4 carrier bags to the charity shop too. Bar the cupboard of doom, I think one big weekend push and the downstairs would finally be done - yay! Will see how far I can get with little and often though because the next couple of months are fairly busy and I don't want to get complacent.

KCSIE · 11/02/2024 21:27

So close to builders being finished, looking forward to putting back in the kitchen/bathroom/living room/dining room only the things we need and binning the rest.

Cleaned our utility today ready to give it a facelift.

Out:
Old ice-cream tub
Tennis ball
Half empty perfume
Old flexi-pipe of unknown purpose
2 bottles, empty and nearly empty
Carrier bag
4 placemats
1 cardboard box

YTD 340

LessObviousName · 12/02/2024 09:02

Haven’t messaged for a while but slowly keeping at it, slowed down a bit but just seem busy with life.

total is now up to 914, I’m really pleased that I will hit 1000 by end of Feb.

I’ve been spending time wherever I am sitting down decluttering my emails and unsubscribing from all the not needed emails that have built up over the years. It feels very satisfying and hopefully I’ll feel the benefit of less pointless emails soon.

Been planning how to make the most out of play room still. Today I’m hoping to buy some storage boxes to box up lots of toys and store them and rotate them, that way I can free up space for kids to use it more.

Pigtailsandall · 12/02/2024 10:03

I broken Mason jar so that's one thing out... also sold a book on vinted, and my husband finally agreed to let goof 2 accessories for the blender, so the total is 243.

We'll need a new thread soon, this one is almost full!

Got rid of 4 dresses this morning that were painfully thin and could have ripped easily. Going to be more material conscious now.

Dd 3 sweatshirts are out and one dress where the zips broke.

@Pigtailsandall totally agree same with clothes. Not sure how my mum can keep so many clothes for years and years. That's just given me a reason not to keep dd6s clothes for dd2.

Nothing better than enforced decluttering @KCSIE! Will be so nice to only put back the things you need. Good luck with the final stretch of building work

stealthninjamum · 12/02/2024 10:43

Half term here so I had a great start while dc are still in bed. I tidied about 7 areas including two large cupboards and it took less than an hour. There was lots of moving things from one area into the correct area.

The only thing I decluttered was a big cardboard box and I found loads of dead batteries that are being recycled and rechargeable batteries that now have a home of their own. I also found a receipt for a photo for Harry Potter world and thought I’d get it printed (for me, dc hate their photos) but after trying for ages online realised they expire after 90 days and I’m sure we went before covid. Oh well it’s something that is now leaving the house.

@Realfastfoodie take your time. There's no hurry and your mindset is shifting. What worked well for me was to have a charity bag and a textile recycling bag in the cupboard under the stairs. So if I saw holey socks or stained kids clothes, I had a place to put them. The bag is quite small so when it's full I take it for recycling. Similarly, if I see a book we don't want to read again or a top I no longer like, I just pop it in the charity shop bag. The charity bag is now full cause I took some vinted items off so it need to be dropped off this weekend.

Not much decluttering, very busy few days at work.
I did sell a top on vinted which was quite pricey, so happy about that; aldo out a kids activity leaflet set and party loot bag and it's contents. Total is 218

Edited

This is what I do as well the rag bag lives in the utility so any holed, stained or outgrown clothes can go straight in there when doing laundry. Latest charity bag always in a corner of the kitchen so stuff can go in rather than staying on the bookshelf etc.
This week we have continued the mega Lego sort out we now have quite a few sets that are complete with boxes and instructions. These are all popped up into the attic storage area - it’ll be a huge job to build and photograph the ones we decide to sell. The play area getting much tidier and emptier.

ChampagneCommunist · 12/02/2024 20:14

Ragbag by the washing machine is genius!

IndianSummer78 · 12/02/2024 21:47

Damaged document storage folder binned. Total is 1870. This is one whole year of decluttering for me. Can't believe I got rid of that much TBH. It's made a difference but there's plenty more needs to go.

IndianSummer78 · 13/02/2024 00:07

Had to look through the drawer of random things for something and in the process got rid of a pile of rusty screws, a pile of Allen keys that were all the same (kept 1), one shoelace without its pair, a pile of metal things to fix furniture to walls, a bit of cardboard, some cheap flimsy scissors from a sewing kit that don't work. Total is 1876

IncessantNameChanger · 13/02/2024 00:30

39 items of dd clothes to a disability holiday club as spares today. 2 things sold on Vinted.

However I bought a carebare ( for me) 2 kids board games and two chrochet hooks! I can't resist charity shops. I was looking for nice little dishes to put used teabags in by the kettle but my carebare is so lush! It will go on my headboard. With my Steif bear, ragdoll and my little pony. I'm a bit sad. I do love a Teddy!

We drove into London for Chinese new year in soho yesterday. It was amazing! Dh is getting braver driving along past Westminster and Waterloo. Ds shredded some socks walking about. Also a bit sad that I was happy to see some ripped socks!

I also have a carrier bag on the radiator in the utility room and just fill it up as I go. It gets sorted for rags or charity once it's full

Pigtailsandall · 13/02/2024 08:42

I finished a cleanser this morning (about 20 to go!!), and woolly baby hat to a friend. Total is 245.

Any volunteers to kick off thread 7? I found it really hard to tag everyone in this one.

I have tried to remove and relist some of my Vinted stuff, but it still goes back to where it was in the listings, ie back where the week old stuff is. Not sure how to get it further up back at the top but I'm not going to keep retaking photos. It must recognise the photo? I have 51 listings now

Decafflatteplease · 13/02/2024 14:30

@IncessantNameChanger it's the new rules that came in a few days ago. You can't delete and relist anymore you have to pay for bumps 🙄

freshstartfor2024 · 13/02/2024 14:46

I've been doing a mega declutter all day. I've got three bags full of things for the charity shop and a massive sports direct bag full of rags. I've put a post on Facebook first, to see if anyone knows anywhere who might make use of children's clothes with a few stains on them- otherwise, I'll do a trip at a time to the charity shop for rags. I don't drive, so trying to decide where to store the bags in the meantime, so they won't annoy me.

I've found a little storage space under a bed to put things which I want to try and sell on Ebay, before charity shopping. More sentimental things really, or really good quality. It feels like, as they're hidden in a space I wouldn't actually use for practical things, they're completely out the way and I can do one or two, here and there.

Now just trying to go through a bag of stuff which isn't good enough quality for the charity shop, but someone might like on a free site. I hate throwing things unnecessarily. Such a lot of faff and time though. It's getting there, it's getting there! I might do a count of the things I've taken to charity shop, as I go, to feel better!

After this, I need to declutter the toy and art cupboard, so have space to enjoy our life!

Really? The forum has gone too it seems. I'm not paying for bumps, it's not worth it. I have only got one thing that is really worth selling left on Vinted now. I think after half term that can be put away until I decide to do my summer listings so that I can get rid of some of the stuff. Things I listed today have got zero views so I don't think it's a good week for selling kids clothes anyway
