So the last thread got filled up and I think I seem to have taken it on myself to start a new one every time, lol! I hope everyone finds us because I'm too lazy to tag everyone, but here's few who spring to mind. It also doesn't let me add some people, for some reason

Now it's the last push until the holidays to get it all out and done (before new cr*p comes in)

I'm still working my way around the kitchen. I'm really not far away from finishing it but I know I'm delaying the one big cupboard of food and also the 'messy' pile of bits and pieces that are needed but are tricky to find a home for. However yesterday I got rid of some old bottles of pop that were past their best and an old radio I wanted to fix but had no idea how and is basically useless nowadays anyway. Now I need to think of a way to store beer bottles etc without them rolling around and making a mess, so we have more storage for things like milk that we actually need and use

Vinorosso74 · 17/01/2024 17:51

Still focusing on organising things which is meaning things are getting used up amd a few small outs.
Couple more small moisturisers finished. Now to get DP to use up his random toiletries.
Item sold on Vinted sent off. I've got 4 items in a charity shop bag. Getting stuff together for a dump run, I need to make sure I'm here as DP forgot things from the garden last time.

IndianSummer78 · 17/01/2024 19:55

Decluttered a magazine this evening. Upto 1825 now

LivingInaBuildingSite · 17/01/2024 21:44

Started going through the ‘too big’ clothed from DS1 to Ds2, some trousers moved into his wardrobe. One hoodie too small so that’s out. Need to go through the rest and see what he’s grown out of.

Off to MILs tomorrow for FILs funeral. Going to be a tough weekend.

2 mugs and a glass have been out in the charity shop bag. I’m finding that sort of stuff hard to do. We have empty shelves in the kitchen, and the cupboards have half the stuff they used to have, so it isn’t cluttered by any means but we used to have lots of parties and it’s hard for me to come to terms with the fact we don’t do that any more. So I’m keeping them more as a ‘just in case thing’.

As I did today’s job quickly I’m going to have a look at my baking trays. They’re all really scruffy and so I’m thinking of replacing them - or maybe buying 5 of the same size that fit into each other as I have a really chaotic drawer of mismatched baking trays.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 18/01/2024 11:28

@stealthninjamum i changed to glass baking trays a while back as I got fed up with the metal ones going rusty/scruffy/bent and I’m really happy with them.

Surely it should be LivingInABuiltSite

LivingInaBuiltSite · 18/01/2024 17:58

Love it!

heartbroken22 · 18/01/2024 20:18

Well I've finally managed to just go to the donation bank and donate all the toys and clothes etc I was struggling with...7 bags in total. I know I said I was struggling with things but... I just realised toys become stale after playing with them again and again and my eldest daughters is nearly 7...so some were old...so glad to have just gone and got rid! Hopefully I can get more out next week.

heartbroken22 · 18/01/2024 20:19

@stealthninjamum thanks ur post just reminded me to get rid of a mug whose handle is slightly cracked. Can't believe I didn't bin it when I mentioned it to my husband earlier. Just realised it's in the dishwasher!

Pigtailsandall · 18/01/2024 20:23

Great new username @LivingInaBuiltSite

Few little outs: a woven bracelet, 2 document bundles shredded and a face mask used. Total is 118

Well done all. Very impressive. Have been dealing with vomiting kids so no progress whatsoever today. Well, that’s not strictly true, I got some kids clothes sorted - small ones fished out and put away/ to go and stashed ones swapped in.

I’ve forgotten who said it, but I completely agree - sorting things out so they are properly organised and can be found is just as much decluttering as getting rid of things. Clutter is the build up of stuff in the wrong place.

Realfastfoodie · 18/01/2024 21:39

(I was very grateful when dealing with sick kids that I had sorted all the clothes nicely previously and i could easily grab what I needed. That’s the value to me of being more sorted. I need to keep remind myself.)

stealthninjamum · 18/01/2024 22:06

@Realfastfoodie I’m sorry the mini fast foodies are poorly, I hope they get better quickly. My current decluttering strategy is more about tidying and organising and I have got rid of loads of stuff while I’m doing it. Dp came over to cook dinner tonight and he noticed the kitchen and sitting room looked clearer.

@heartbroken22 we used to have a mug with a hairline crack around the handle and I kept meaning to get rid of it because it was ugly. I decluttered it in a really embarrassing way, one of the first times dp came round he made a tea and the cup part fell off and he was standing in the kitchen holding a handle looking really confused about why the mug had fallen apart in his hands.

I tidied the baking tray drawer. I removed some cake trays from
there as I have a different drawer for the dimpled trays and seven horrible metal baking trays. I have four other baking trays and about three Pyrex dishes so I am wondering if I can throw away the seven baking trays without replacing them. I am going to put them in the pile of crap in the playroom and maybe not replace them for an while although I liked your idea @LivingInaBuiltSite of getting glass trays.

i also got dc to agree to 5 books and a magazine to go.

stealthninjamum · 19/01/2024 09:28

Dd2 gave me two onesies and a blanket to declutter last night. We probably won’t be replacing them so I count that as three items out.

My app is telling me to organise the utility room freezer so I’m going to do that. I know it’s only half full so I might empty the drawers and clean it and make a meal with the oldest food in it.

We also now have a big charity shop pile so I’m aiming to take a couple of bags today.

ememem84 · 19/01/2024 10:44

mixer was sold on FB and picked up last nigh. mixer our. £110 in. hoorah.

finally got round to getting the postage bags to send back the returns - need to print the labels but that is a Monday job as i'm back in the office then and dont have a printer here.

IndianSummer78 · 19/01/2024 18:06

Came across some tatty old dividers in a ring binder (which is in use currently) so replaced them with a packet of new ones I found under something else a few days ago. Total is 1830

LessObviousName · 19/01/2024 19:52

Been a bit slow on it last few days but today decided to hit more shelves of food etc which has really added

Broken Xmas Dec
Cheap cuddly toy
Unopened pack of crib bedding to friend
Pair of outgrown socks
Balloons
Items out of food cupboard x 57
Old container
Returned two pairs of unsuitable footie boots (not included in Count)
3 water/milk storage bottles

my total is up to 389

I also finally put some curtains up in the playroom which are thermal which I’m hoping help the fact it’s so cold in there and connect the telly in there to the internet. Building up to facing it and really need to clear put in there so the kids are more likely to play with items in there.

Glass baking trays? Are they any good?!

KCSIE · 19/01/2024 21:07

Declutter has slowed right down for me whilst builders and in and out and everything is healed inaccessible in a spare room (can't even open the door fully any more).

Out today:

  • broken novelty Christmas hairband hat thing

Total 145

Vinorosso74 · 20/01/2024 09:09

DP finally started sorting out his paperwork 🍾He has a new folder and began yesterday sorting his stuff which had taken over the letter rack.
Out for me a sports bra which only had one hook left.
Out most of today but will crack on tomorrow. Plan for this week is dump run and get some things to charity shop.

Gassylady · 20/01/2024 09:33

Today a bag for charity shop including an unworn set of wooden beaded bracelets, two spinner type toys, some more nerf guns and a dish for serving bread that we were given from my MIL and has never been used.

heartbroken22 · 20/01/2024 11:22

@stealthninjamum haha yeah that's one of my nightmares. Anything with cracks I let go and force my mum too.

I got rid of a dds paw patrol pillow and Harry potter blanket both have seen better days.

I'm glad u got rid of some toys my kids are playing a lot more with what's left.

IncessantNameChanger · 20/01/2024 12:36

33 so far put today. I'm going to the charity shop later on today so I really need to be brave and bag up some my clothes too and a bag or two of things I have brought back from mums house. I currently going around and gather things as I see them try ING reduce cluttered areas. But I do need to start looking at areas or categories soon. Like the kids bedding. They only need two sets each. Eldest ds has his two sets as he has a double duvet on a single bed so we re bought his bedding. But the other two boys have a right mishmash. I think I need to do a list. Some is nylon-ish, some is covered in blood from nose bleeds.

I might crack on with that today. But it's hard to gather up as it's in various places. Do what to do? Gather it all up or do a list of the best two and ditch the rest? Hard
