So the last thread got filled up and I think I seem to have taken it on myself to start a new one every time, lol! I hope everyone finds us because I'm too lazy to tag everyone, but here's few who spring to mind. It also doesn't let me add some people, for some reason

Now it's the last push until the holidays to get it all out and done (before new cr*p comes in)

She brought down some, I’m sure there’s more. But have put most in the charity box and box by the front door for drop off tomorrow.
(19 items in the box to add once it actually leaves)

3 x wrecked items into fabric recycling

13+3=16

stealthninjamum · 07/01/2024 14:32

@Gassylady do you have a sainsburys near you? Whenever I sell books I go to Sainsbury’s and they have wine boxes. I find they’re the perfect size for a dozen or so books.

Toss has suggested I do the sideboard so I’ll give it a go even though I think it’s decluttered. I am thinking of getting rid of four odd shaped glasses that belonged to exh. Just need to wrap them up and put in a charity shop bag but I have nothing to wrap them in because I’m so good at decluttering packing!

Realfastfoodie · 07/01/2024 15:16

Toss is asking me to do a shelf of the fridge. I am feeling very tired and wishing I could hibernate, but I can do this!

If I get round to it, I will also try to do some Orjenise catch up… we will see!

SparrowSally · 07/01/2024 16:13

3 bags of clothes off to recycling! Also got a pile of books which is being donated tomorrow.

Nordicmom · 07/01/2024 16:47

The dump trip got done and the food bank bags went into supermarket collection . We’ve been getting through various household jobs . DH is cleaning the utility room cupboard and has gotten rid of the old vacuum cleaner parts finally . I then remembered something else for the dump but it can go next time. thank god for the double garage we can gather things into in the meantime although it’s mostly been taken over by DH car he’s building , all his many machines and workbenches , racking ,cupboards and drawers . It’s in order of sorts thanks to the neat matching storage I demanded we get but it’s in DH idea of order which to me is messy so I’m itching to get some professional organiser here to sort it out more and clear all surfaces of things not in use etc . I can’t go in there to interfere while he builds the car though there’s dirty stuff and tools I don’t want to go near so I just have to nag occasionally and plead with him to put things away he is hopeless at leaving crap lying around everywhere he goes like my DD ( DS doesn’t anymore really ) and then put it out of my mind . He does often “ tidy “ there though so it’s not that he doesn’t but it’s not up to my standards grrrr.
I’ll get a list together of declutterred items later .

Gassylady · 07/01/2024 16:55

@stealthninjamum good idea about Sainsbury’s I’ll be passing tomorrow so will look in. No neighbourhood what’s app sadly. A few games and puzzles have been agreed can go so next bag is underway. OH has begun to sort more Lego - we had started this before but got overwhelmed and abandoned it 😮😂

IncessantNameChanger · 07/01/2024 17:13

I have listened to first three podcasts of a slob comes clean. I actually loaded my dishwasher before bed too! Not got rid of any more items. I’m on the last lot of Next returns as I bought 5 million boots. My current boots have had the sole reglued and they leak. So I needed to replace them anyway.

feeling so hopefully this year. My digital clean up is going really well, but I need to do that daily. Maybe twice a day email checks?

I have started the photos by downloading a video editing app, and chopping bits of some videos of the kids.

hope everyone else is doing well

LonelyFlans · 07/01/2024 17:44

Tried to do a tip run today but it looks like everyone had the same idea as the queue was snaking down the road. May pop out in my lunch hour this week instead.

SparrowSally · 07/01/2024 18:33

We have to book our top trips, which is great in some ways, as we know we won't get stuck in queues. Not so great when you collect stuff and just want to get rid of it.

stealthninjamum · 07/01/2024 18:37

@IncessantNameChanger that sounds great that you loaded the dishwasher before bed. Exh used to tell me off for turning it on when it was only 3/4 full but I think when you come down to no washing up the day starts better.

Today’s outs are the four glasses I mentioned earlier and from the sideboard I found a candle, Xmas decoration and old birthday card to go. So 7 items.

Ive had a brainwave. As I was going through the sideboard I realised it had things that belong in other places and moved them - stuff like alum keys, packing tape, sellotape. This happened last week when I decluttered the bathroom cabinet and ended up moving loads of medications to their cupboard in the kitchen. Well, I have an app for dd2 called Tiny Decisions for when she can’t make a decision. I have now started to enter areas of the house into a page on the app. I will enter the whole house into it and when Toss finishes I will do one area a day decluttering/ tidying. Other than toys and the room of doom I’m practically at maintenance so I reckon I’ll just need to spend 5 or 10 mins a day tidying and decluttering an area.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 07/01/2024 18:40

Cleared an area behind the door in the conservatory which involved throwing out some old magazine bits and glass jars in recycling as, although a few are useful, too many are just clutter. This allowed me to move a large box we need to keep from the area I need to put the shelves from the garage. It's all a bit like jenga trying to get it empty in time for the works to start but we have made significant progress and I feel it is actually achievable by the start date!

I've also given away another single air mattress we don't need.

tallsmallmum · 07/01/2024 18:53

not exactly decluttering but finally made a calendar, didn't enjoy it very much all the scrolling and not being able to see them well anyway so I've made an album for photos which are particularly good/exciting for next year and added reminder at beginning of this December

Vinorosso74 · 07/01/2024 19:19

Had a no show for a freebie today but she messaged to say she'll come tomorrow.
I've done some organising which hasn't led to any outs this weekend. All body lotions are together, all bath and shower stuff on shelf in bathroom so it will get used, stationery bits all in one place etc
Sorted the food cupboards and had a look through the freezer. I've made a meal plan which will use up stuff we have, still need fresh things but it will help.
DP's contribution to the decluttering so far was to say he'll take stuff to the dump. How about helping with clearing out first?

KCSIE · 07/01/2024 23:07

The enormity of house renovation starting tomorrow has now hit me, I'm in declutter overdrive. Think I'd declutter the kids if they stayed still too long 😂

I've lost count already of my total so far, I think it was 26? I'll go with that

Gone today alone:

  • day bed (sold)
  • university textbook (sold)
  • 3 old flannels
  • 2 old hand towels
  • 3 old normal towels
  • old expired tub of sudocream
  • old expired tub of E45 cream
  • empty shampoo bottle
  • old defunct remote control
  • holey old reusable fluffy wipes x 30
  • 1 nearly empty shower gel
  • 5 unused facepacks (donated)
  • 3 toiletry gift sets
  • 2 perfume sample vials
  • 2 candles
  • 1 blunt screwdriver
  • expired nearly empty headlice shampoo
  • 2 dusters
  • 1 bath toy float (missing the actual toy)
  • 1 wire bath caddy
  • 1 broken mug
  • 1 empty box of washing powder
  • 2 flower pots
  • 2 vases

Total 95

IndianSummer78 · 08/01/2024 07:36

One lipgloss and one bottle of baby oil finished. Total is 1800

Realfastfoodie · 08/01/2024 10:23

Did my Toss challenge last night and did the whole fridge. I was brutal and also put a few things into boxes to organise. It looks clearer than I’ve ever seen it. 22 (!) things for the bin, fortunately mostly empty or nearly empty packets so not too much actual wastage.

Today’s Toss is underwear…

Turtleoo · 08/01/2024 11:49

Feeling good today, I went into town and took a big bag of donations to the charity shop, plus a bag of returns to another shop so got some good bulk out of the house.

Just done Orjenise day 8 which was 5 mins in your wardrobe and have thrown out 10 items there. I did lots of thinning of my clothes last year but still so much I haven't worn and don't feel good in so work still to do.

Yearly total so far up to 123, what a pleasing number in more ways than one :)

daffodil2023 · 08/01/2024 14:16

Just went through the kitchen cupboard of doom. Had a plumber come round just before Xmas and it took me 5 mins to empty everything to get to the stop cock so decided that's where I'd start.

A carrier bag of bits and bobs to the bin, already established storage boxes gone through, labeled and re-located to newly spacious cupboard elsewhere and all the floating bits of tut that we need to keep are now in one storage box. Not a bad start to the year!

tallsmallmum · 08/01/2024 15:05

1 overflowing tub of batteries out
1 parcel returned neutral
1 Soft plastics bundle out
Hopefully this isn't all today

Pigtailsandall · 08/01/2024 15:21

Wow this thread has been so busy! January seems to be even more of a prime time for decluttering than December!

We got home yesterday and I can't tell you what day/time it is and I am so jetlagged. I go back to work on Wednesday and I'm slowly unpacking and tidying up. Luckily we left the house tidy and my declutters in November paid off and it feels nice to come to a home that's not overwhelming.

Also, when we landed I got a message on FB marketplace about our changing table which I had listed for sale in October. Someone asked if they could collect it this morning. Sure, I said, thinking they would ghost me like everyone else, but no, guy showed up at 9am, took the thing and gave me £50. So very pleased with that, it's a huge out.

Total so far this year is 26.

IncessantNameChanger · 08/01/2024 15:39

My professional declutterrer came today. We had a chat then threw out half a black bin bag. Since he has been gone I have bagged up 78 things, mainly dd clothes to go to a charity shop. She has also got a fair few things I could sell on Vinted again. How ever much of dds things I get rid of, she's always got a endless supply of more things it seems.

Still feeling positive.

97 things so far this year

ememem84 · 08/01/2024 16:52

Day off work for me today. I took a car load to charity shop. Emptied both dcs rooms. Tidied up. Pulled a black bag of rubbish from each of their rooms.

too small clothes have been bagged and will go to work for my boss and his wife to take with them to the Philippines when they go. They’re taking things to an orphanage that she knows.

IncessantNameChanger · 08/01/2024 17:11

@ememem84 that's a nice way to get rid of clothes. I normally donate mine to a FB clothing bank who offer them.back out for free, but I need to pop over near a kids only charity shop tomorrow so I will get rid of some toys there.

Still need to work towards on 5-7 on each type of clothing for her. It's not going well. She is my only dd so I hqave enjoyed buying her pretty things but since covid she's not into party wear

Vinorosso74 · 08/01/2024 17:45

Woman collected the free item earlier. I've sorted through cupboard in lounge which has resulted in some shredding so have half a bin bag full. I have reduced the amount of packaging I was saving to reuse but we won't use all of it. Got a bag of soft plastics ready to take to Sainsburys tomorrow.
Sorted through DD's pyjamas and socks. 4 pairs of pjs and 4 pairs of socks in textile recycling bag.
Made sure every scrap of recycling amd rubbish has gone out too!

WhereAreWeNow · 08/01/2024 17:48

Can I join please? I'm feeling totally overwhelmed and depressed by the clutter. I'm actually pretty good at tidying/decluttering but DH and DD both have ADHD and are the messiest hoarders ever. They keep every crumpled receipt, tissue, sweet wrapper. They leave things in random places. It drives me mad. I want to chuck everything out!
