So the last thread got filled up and I think I seem to have taken it on myself to start a new one every time, lol! I hope everyone finds us because I'm too lazy to tag everyone, but here's few who spring to mind. It also doesn't let me add some people, for some reason

@realfastfoodie
@IndianSummer78
@stealthninjamum
@cornedbeef451
@EllieQ
@Gassylady
@IncessantNameChanger

@nordicmom
@Vinorosso74

Now it's the last push until the holidays to get it all out and done (before new cr*p comes in)

Agreed Realfastfoodie those guys are really going for it. After success with bedroom cupboard yesterday I’m feeling ready to enter the toy room of doom, all kids are home for another week so we can all look at things together - at least for a short while before we begin to bicker! I’m fairly sure there will be some quick wins in terms of both toys and books. The chimney sweep is coming in the next two weeks so definitely good to tidy a lot of the stuff anyway to give him access.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 03/01/2024 12:34

@Nordicmom I've asked to work from home for the rest of the week but had to point out to my manager that government advice states I should work from home if testing positive. He's sending me some extra cases to work 🙄

I don't feel as bad as yesterday but it comes in waves and the cough is getting worse and more painful.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 03/01/2024 12:37

@Realfastfoodie Thanks, it feels good to have got rid of so much already. My DP is still clearing out a shed but doesn't seem to have anything to throw away yet 🤔.

Just went to check on DP and he's found jars of foodstuffs (mainly baking stuff) from his old house. Told him to get rid of them as I'm not eating things that have been in a shed for 3yrs. He thinks they'll 'come in handy' 🙄.

Gassylady · 03/01/2024 14:28

@PissedOffNeighbour22 he's right. Come the zombie apocalypse you can fight them off by hurling long expired foodstuffs at them 🤣🤣

stealthninjamum · 03/01/2024 14:48

@Nordicmom @PissedOffNeighbour22 im sorry you’re both suffering so much from covid and sleep deprivation. I hope you get a better night tonight.

Toss asked me to do receipts so I found 4 receipts from Christmas presents but I don’t think they count as they’re so new.

I did decide to get rid of a Christmas card game that isn’t that great. So I guess after yesterday’s high numbers today will just be 1.

Total for this year is 53.

I've got a 'come in handy' one too, its very hard to get him to agree to let go of stuff but hes been quite positive today.

Had a good push today and cleared out a load of carboard from the garage ready to go to the tip on the weekend. As well as this I've got rid of:

An old bin
biscuit tin
clothes rail
used up deoderent
broken gift bag

I have sorted all the hats and gloves and put them in boxes on the shoe racks to keep them together, hopefully this works as a final storage solution as I'm fed up of never being able to find them.

Vinorosso74 · 03/01/2024 16:48

Wow there is some serious new year decluttering energy out there.
My only out today is a finished moisturiser. I think I'll have a bit more motivation once school is back next week. Still in holiday routine.
Need to take the tree and decorations down which may help!

Nordicmom · 03/01/2024 16:52

@PissedOffNeighbour22 youve done amazing amount decluttered already despite being ill ! I actually also managed DD room right before Christmas Day while still ill with pure rage and got a big amount out. I just didn’t stop until I’d gone through everything and out went a big blank bag to dump , another of trash to dump , 1 big bag of recycling, 1 bag to clothes bank and a pile to charity shop I now realise DH didn’t put in the boxes that DS took today and has left somewhere in the attic so they’ll have to go in the next load . I dusted every inc of her damn legos too so now feel nice it’s all done and won’t be doing that for a while …

LivingInaBuildingSite · 03/01/2024 17:07

Happy New Year to everyone.

i haven’t been any good at Decluttering over December.

I have at least taken the tree and decs down. Some broken bits in the bin, plus some packaging we don’t need anymore.

Have also decided to bin the old and tatty garland stuff we’ve had for years, need to invest in some better stuff next Christmas.

Also need to take down and bin some outside lights that the puppy managed to chew through and destroy!

tallsmallmum · 03/01/2024 17:10

1 bag of mostly recycling out
2 bags of outgrown clothes out
few timing chips from races out
hung up and tidied younger 2's clothes as much as possible
radio silence from the olio-er

WhyAmINotCleaning · 03/01/2024 17:14

Marking place.

ememem84 · 03/01/2024 19:14

Coat in charity bag. As are a pair of my trainers which are unworn. I’m also selling another pair.

SydneyCarton · 03/01/2024 19:25

Good Lord deliver us all from “come in handy” or “just in case” partners! Toss told me to do the nightstand so I have had a quick rummage and chucked 5 packets of OOD medication that DP was keeping because “you never know” 🙄

PuttingDownRoots · 03/01/2024 19:39

My "just in case" DH got validation this week because we needed a specific cable... and it was on the box of doom

Rowgtfc72 · 03/01/2024 19:39

@SydneyCarton I am one of those come in handy people.
Unfortunately dh is the absolute opposite and would quite happily bin the entire contents of our house.
We need a happy medium.

LessObviousName · 03/01/2024 20:10

didn’t do much today as was out and about but did chuck three items bringing me up to 43.

got rid of:
Poof wash thing
Baby shampoo (been sitting half full for I don’t know how long)
Holey bra

Nordicmom · 03/01/2024 22:34

Did my own spare toiletries box from our first floor hall cupboard , moved some DD unused travel toiletries into kids spare toiletries box in the same cupboard and got out a few items to use up / foodbank / bin . Went through the present food I won’t have any of it so it’s up to DH and DS what they keep rest will go to foodbank in the weekend hopefully with the existing stuff in that box in under stairs cupboard. I’ll add to it from the larder I still need to look through . This year we got too many mince pies for one . I only had 3 mini ones with my Covid they tasted bad even though I normally like the mini ones with almond . DD doesn’t eat any and DS not particularly so it’s only DH having them . We also didn’t have our Christmas pudding in the end. Really not feeling well today I’ve gotten nothing much done and haven’t even ventured downstairs I’ve mainly been in bed all day since kids were here to help and to look after our dog on and off . Been too tired to do my daily cleaning or tidying and now feeling not up to it either so I’m trying to just take more of my meds and have a shower and to cool my room so I could feel better and just go to sleep earlier . I have a book I want to finish so I think I’ll just do that . More another day

IndianSummer78 · 04/01/2024 00:32

Hi to the newbies. Happy decluttering everyone. If you need tips for getting started or getting unstuck the last thread was full of them.

I decided to keep my old total running because I'm hoping the final horrific total of unnecessary detritus here will stop me from sliding back into bad habits and amassing it all over again. I'm not even properly at the end of my first year yet, I didn't join the thread until February or March.

Does anyone know of any brand of candles that don't stink? I'm not sure if I've just developed a hatred for the smell of wax in general or if I've bought some particularly smelly kind, they're not scented. They seem to affect my asthma now. Maybe it's because I've got new windows so there's not a constant draught bringing fresh air in? Perhaps I'll end up decluttering all the candle holders too! They are pretty though, as is the candlelight.

I took my Christmas cards down a few days ago but I'm not counting those as clutter outs because they were only here for the season.

Considering decluttering some birth-family members. That makes me sound adopted. I should have been am not, but hopefully you know what I mean. I'm already low-contact. How to go even-lower-contact without announcing I never want to hear from them again? Ignore their texts? Switch off the phone when they don't take the hint? Get a new phone and don't give them the number? I could go on holiday for a month 15th Dec -15th Jan, would be expensive and maybe awkward though, if it would fix it naturally? Do people who only want to know you at Christmas develop an urge to see you at other times of the year if they can't access you at Christmas? So many questions, all of them dumb and unanswerable a mystery.

3 tea-lights used up
1 shower puff that unravelled itself while I was using it

Total is 1793

Nordicmom · 04/01/2024 00:34

Oh yes a few more outs :
-1 expired piercing cleaning spray
-1 old medicine sheet
-1 travel toiletry bottle used up
-3 mini toiletries to food bank
total is 33

EllieQ · 04/01/2024 09:34

I’m off work this week but DD is in holiday club, so I’m trying to really tackle the clutter in these few days, especially the shelves in her room where we are storing bed linen, cot bedding, and other stuff including old baby clothes. Yesterday I went through the final two boxes of baby clothes (new born and 0-3 months sizes) and have 226 items to donate!

I kept a few things, but was happy to be able to get rid of the rest, which is something that I’ve struggled with previously.

They aren’t out of the house yet (going to offer them to my neighbour first; then a local charity), but I’m really pleased with myself.

Today I’ll be sorting the bedding that’s also kept in that corner and hopefully getting rid of some/ finding better storage for the rest of it.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 04/01/2024 13:28

@Nordicmom haha a rage declutter is definitely the most effective type of decluttering 😄.

After leaving my DP to continue clearing the outbuildings yesterday he managed to find a grand total of NOTHING to throw out 🤔🤔. He also didn't manage to get around to taking any more cardboard to the tip and as he's on childcare duties today and tomorrow, then working from the weekend onwards, nothing is likely to get done for a while.

ememem84 · 04/01/2024 13:47

Am hopefully going to get rid of our glass recycling today. If I can be bothered after I finish work I’m going to take it to the recycle place.

Nordicmom · 04/01/2024 14:08

@PissedOffNeighbour22 it definitely is ! Otherwise I probably wouldn’t have been able to do DD whole room so quickly while still ill . It was quick decision making then believe me and got done fast !

Realfastfoodie · 04/01/2024 14:19

Well done to all the rage declutterers! Excellent work!!

Today I decluttered over 100 dandelions and other weeds from our “lawn”. Took me ages, so I’m definitely counting them!! 🌱

Gassylady · 04/01/2024 14:29

Bag dropped to charity shop. Few books and DVDs, pair kids chinos, pair of kids shoes worn only once for a funeral, pair of kids waterproof trousers, couple of kids games and puzzles, a ball shooting gun and a magic set. Have also found a bakers dozen of books that one of the sites will take so need to find a suitable box. Confession do have a stock of recycled boxes to use for posting 🤫
