How often do you clean the inside of your windows?

Just that really. It's one of those jobs I seldom get around to. Fairly big 4-bed house with conservatory and venetian blinds in most rooms, so it's a long and crappy job...

Front lounge windows, in the autumn when the sun gets lower usually although they were new last autumn and I haven't cleaned them this autumn.

The rest, once a year, maybe.

Infrequently, big windows, short person. I flail around with a duster on a long pole but washing them is impossible.

Canyoucheckonme · 13/10/2023 20:44

I'm thinking of paying the kids to do them soon! They're coming up 10 and 13 and would like some money...

When I notice they need cleaning? Actually, realistically, about three weeks after I notice they need cleaning when I finally get around to it.

Probably once or twice a year, depending on the window. More for the ones in the bathroom and by the kitchen sink.

I am interested in this too @Canyoucheckonme . We have a fairly large 4 bed house with conservatory too. My children are still young so their finger prints are everywhere 😆. Can I ask what you use to clean them ? Thanks

Gnomegnomegnome · 13/10/2023 20:54

Once a week. I clean a room a day and clean the windows and mirrors in that room as part of the clean.
I thought that was normal but it doesn’t look like it is!

Mumaway · 13/10/2023 20:54

Patio doors where the kids touch most weeks, one behind the kitchen sink once a month, everywhere else couple times a year

PerkingFaintly · 13/10/2023 20:55

Shock Were you watching? Did mine for the first time in <mumble> years yesterday and today.

My goodness those cloths were black.

Lemonademoney · 13/10/2023 20:56

Once a month… any longer and they look grimy to me

bluebirdsongs · 13/10/2023 20:56

Every 6 weeks or so. I find nd the room smells & feels so much fresher afterwards

I do mine once a week too! Thought that was normal..might dial it down a bit having read this.

Haha @SnapdragonToadflax - same cycle here - notice, feel bad, procrastinate for a few weeks, then do it. Well, main ones at least.

@Sam202012 my DH enjoys cleaning a LOT more than me and does it more often. He bought this HG stuff on Amazon and I've been using it on mirrors and am happy... Their mould spray is great, too...

cant remember doing it even once in the last 10 years - I wipe down the windowsills occassionally, where the cats sit shedding hair

Canyoucheckonme · 13/10/2023 20:59

@bluebirdsongs that's what got me thinking earlier... Lounge has a weird smell atm (probs due to fetid boys and their snacks and darts tho) and realised its probably been 6-9 months since I last cleaned the windows. We're in a 1930s house with a large bay window, and cleaning the glass and venetian blinds takes an hour or so... Might find an interesting podcast to listen to whilst doing it.

All the bloody time. My cats leave snout marks all over them.

Wilko window cleaner spray was by far the best, IMHO.

RIP Wilko.

Canyoucheckonme · 13/10/2023 21:00

@Gnomegnomegnome my MIL cleans her windows inside and out once a week. I have no idea why! I do not have the energy or inclination for that at all.

Cumbrianlife · 13/10/2023 21:01

Another at least once a week. If I clean a mirror in the room I'll clean all the glass including TV, windows and framed art. It only takes a couple of minutes but I don't like clutter and don't block windows so it's a simple task.

Mum2jenny · 13/10/2023 21:04

I’m obviously a dirty cow as inside windows are lucky to be cleaned twice a year!

I would do that, we paid DS, when he was about 15, to strip all the wallpaper off for decorating. The age of your DC is about right for a job like window cleaning.

Myhusbandearns150k · 13/10/2023 21:06

Perfect job for children.

only clean mine every few months. I’m a Heathen.

MyYorkshireFarm · 13/10/2023 21:06

I baby wiped spaghetti off one of mine just last year! It dried very streaky so I’m just never washing any again

Cannas · 13/10/2023 21:07

Once a year maybe, though not very thoroughly.
People doing this every week - how many hours a week do you spend cleaning? It must be a full time job!

Poke · 13/10/2023 21:11

I have never cleaned inside my windows.

didn’t even know it was a thing.

The window cleaner does the outsides.

User1748953 · 13/10/2023 21:12

We do ours in the Spring and if we remove curtains for washing or get new ones.

givemeasunnyday · 13/10/2023 21:19

A couple of times a year - if I can be bothered. I HATE cleaning the inside of windows, and where I live at the moment they are all smeary, and no amount of cleaning really shifts the smears. I can't imagine what the previous tenants used.
