How often do you clean the inside of your windows?

Just that really. It's one of those jobs I seldom get around to. Fairly big 4-bed house with conservatory and venetian blinds in most rooms, so it's a long and crappy job...

Once a week. I clean a room a day and clean the windows and mirrors in that room as part of the clean.
I thought that was normal but it doesn’t look like it is!

Do you work as well? If so, how do you have the time? And do windows need cleaning every week?

fetchacloth · 13/10/2023 22:55

DementedPanda · 13/10/2023 22:39

Every bloody day for the living room window as I have a dog that thinks he's a cat and sits on the window sill making art. The others once a week as he has less access to them

I'm convinced my cat uses the bay window to wipe his nose 😒

Yes, full time high pressured job. I spend about 30 minutes a day cleaning a room either while dinner is cooking or Dh is watching shit tv (he does clean too, he doesn’t get out of it).
It takes no time, dust the windowsills and wash the windows. We live in a fairly small house.
No they probably don’t need doing every week but I just do them because I’m there with the glass cleaner cleaning mirrors etc.

BarbDwyerHair · 13/10/2023 23:04

Once a year now thee children aren't slobbering over them.

TheSpikySpinosaurus · 14/10/2023 06:27

@Gnomegnomegnome I take my hat off to you!

Tumbleweed101 · 14/10/2023 08:00

Usually with my after Xmas clean and then my autumn clean. Then any time they look like they need it.
I don’t do my teens rooms but suggest they do it. I’m not sure how often they do. I’m always amazed how much more light gets in once it’s done and resolve to do it more often!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 14/10/2023 08:04

Quite often downstairs because the dogs breathe on the windows and stick their snotty noses. It takes minutes.

My lovely window cleaner does the inside downstairs whenever he has more time.

Upstairs less often.

TheScientists · 14/10/2023 08:14

Actually weirdly often as for some reason my preschoolers love it and it keeps them occupied (and they make the windows grubby too) they find me cleaning the outside glass while they clean the inside absolutely hilarious. I don't know why.

They've started asking to clean other people's windows when we go to their houses which gets mixed responses. I have been explaining that it's rude and people might be offended but enough people have reacted with delight and chucked them some paper roll that they keep doing it

DiscoBeat · 14/10/2023 08:26

Once a month when the window cleaner does the outside. 4 bed house with separate annexe.
I use a Karcher, it's so easy!

Caspianberg · 14/10/2023 08:42

Probably every 2 weeks. Our windows are European style opening inwards so I can clean the outside also by just opening. They are big windows and the south facing ones always look dirty otherwise with sun shining in.

thugsnet · 14/10/2023 08:47

Laughing at this thread. Extremely rarely, is the answer, and then there would have to be a specific reason.

YellowChrysnthemum · 14/10/2023 08:47

SnapdragonToadflax · 13/10/2023 20:45

When I notice they need cleaning? Actually, realistically, about three weeks after I notice they need cleaning when I finally get around to it.

Probably once or twice a year, depending on the window. More for the ones in the bathroom and by the kitchen sink.

😂 this is me. It's a job I despise, and though I also despise dirty looking windows I still avoid doing it....

thugsnet · 14/10/2023 08:48

PickAChew · 13/10/2023 22:36

When they annoy me but as infrequently as possible. They get incidentally cleaned a lot more in the winter when I have condensation to wipe up.

Actually, that's true, when I remember to do something about the condensation.

InacycleofNC · 14/10/2023 08:52

The bigger the windows, the harder they are to clean - window spray and a cloth just leave smears at that size. I get the window cleaner to do our 1960's whoppers twice a year and wash the rest myself also twice-ish a year. But obviously I use window spray for any visible marks between times and the kitchen window behind the sink needs doing a lot more often.

Hedjwitch · 14/10/2023 08:56

Hardly ever. The one behind the kitchen sink gets cleaned more often than the others but it involves climbing on the work surface to get at it so I put it off as long as possible.

Canyoucheckonme · 14/10/2023 16:20

Anyone else in a sunny place today and cleaned a window or two?! I did the front door and hallway window, will do kitchen one later as you lot have inspired me.

Deffo going to pay the kids to do the large bay window and blinds in the school holidays...

I did mine today, inspired by this thread Halo
Except the one where I never open the blind as if I can't see it, it doesn't exist

Canyoucheckonme · 14/10/2023 17:07

Haha! Most of my windows have venetian blinds so think that's why I seldom do them too - out of sight out of mind!!

I tried to do my bedroom window but broke the ancient blind by raising them up (they're very heavy). DH wasn't happy... Think I'll go back to not cleaning windows...

Not enough. Will do then before Christmas. Just need time and it is one job I usually leave unless they are minging.

hermioneee · 14/10/2023 17:29

Once every couple of weeks here. Like a pp I do a room a day (team TOMM!) so I'd usually have the time as it only takes a couple of minutes each time when I'm on top of it.
I don't have blinds or anything though.

I kind of find it odd that they ever need doing to be honest. Why do the insides of windows get dirty? Are my walls also dirty?

BetiYeti · 14/10/2023 17:46

Unless they look dirty, just a couple of times a year! Will be doing them all soon as I like them done before Christmas.

Canyoucheckonme · 14/10/2023 17:48

@hermioneee oh god, don't start planting seeds about washing walls now...! Tho our hallway walls are mucky due to kids and bikes etc

All the bloody time. My cats leave snout marks all over them.

Wilko window cleaner spray was by far the best, IMHO.

RIP Wilko.

That's called Nose Art 😀

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 14/10/2023 18:25

We clean the inside maybe once a year, usually when we can no longer see out properly. Use hot water and a bit of vinegar and that seems fine.

One benefit of being slack about cleaning the windows is how dazzling they look once you've cleaned them and it is nice being able to see things more clearly outside.

stayathomer · 14/10/2023 18:26

When the sun shows up how much I’ve neglected them!!!
